I bought my first saddle set up for this season just because of me watching your channel. You have inspired me to get into public land hunting and after a few interactions with deer where I couldn't get exactly where I wanted because there was no ground cover I knew I needed a portable tree set up. I like how with a saddle you don't need a straight tree like you would with a climber.

I have hunted out of a saddle for 4 years. I have had so much success with my setup now 4 beast sticks with 1 step aider per stick. 100% a game changer. I hunt a different tree every hunt and it's so fun. Best chance to kill a big buck is the first set.

I hunt with a platform mounted over a ring of steps. This gives the hunter the best of both worlds. Platforms are comfortable and versatile and the steps allow the hunter the hide behind the tree in a stable manner to make a shot. I rarely see this combination being promoted. It does take more time to set up but I believe it is worth it. Thanks for all your past videos.

I find that my Tethrd saddle is more comfortable than a loc on for all day sits. I have a bad back and have no problem hanging in the saddle. Wish I had done it sooner. It made hunting even more enjoyable for me!! I didn’t think that could even be possible

I was so overwhelmed when I first started looking into how I wanted to hunt out of a tree!!! And this seemed to add a whole other level of confusion. All I can say is in my humble opinion, it is THE best option. It’s intuitive to use. It’s comfortable. It’s versatile which is key for public land. I’d recommend it to anyone !!!!

Had to go to THP for this enjoy all your videos keep em coming. You guys are having an awesome 2022 season. Just wanted to throw out there any hunters using quick links on your rappel ropes I have been hooking my pull down rope on the rappel side of the quick link and it has been coming down from the tree easier and with less noise and with not having to step from the tree and spreading scent trying to break the velcro effect bite of the tree bark on the rope. Also climbed over branches and still was able to pull the rope through the quick link and over the branches to get my rope back.

I've been saddle hunting since Greg showed me the modified sit drag method. I have changed things up a bit and use my saddle combined with the lower portion of my climbing stand. I place my tether as high as I can reach and put my climber base on the tree, then pull the base up with my feet, stand up and sinch the tether up and do it again until I'm at the height I want. No climbing sticks needed.

Best decision I ever made was switching over to a tethrd saddle I've taken 2 bucks and 4 deer total over the past few years and it definitely takes some time to adjust but I'll never go back to a treestand. They're safe as hell, comfy like you wouldn't believe and adjustable to fit every person. the versatility and weight factor alone is perfect for any public or private land hunter to adapt to the deer your hunting and not just sit in the same Ole ladder stand praying a buck walks by this year. #pennsy #saddlehunter

I've been thinking of getting into saddle hunting, just for the mobility and being alot quieter than hanging a stand. But having had 2 back surgeries, I'm not sure I'd be able to sit long without a way of taking the stress off my back. My lower 3 vertebrae are made of titanium now. At least in a stand I can lean back against the tree or just have the ability to stand or sit down.

@portapottyflipper6957 Just use the tree strap that it comes with for the top once normally sat. Use it on the same spot for the lower 1/2 instead. The walk-in will suck as the back padding is the seat on the top 1/2. Maybe slip a small piece of foam in between you and the platform for your back. Can use as knee pads aswell once at the tree.

I've hunted for 5 years out of one, overall its solid however shooting to weak side sucks(2-3 o'clock for right handed shooter). It takes so much movement- you either need to swing bow over/under bridge or stand up and do a 180 if you are on a platform. I've been busted plenty when a deer changes direction at the last second and ends up on my right side. A lot less movement if you are in a treestand in that situation.

one word of caution.... be mindful of your carabiner! Those folks worried about comfort need not worry. I have pretty severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and can sit in a saddle much longer than I can be in a treestand. I use a Kestral rather than a Tethr'd saddle, but that's just because I had it before I every heard of Tethr'd.. I use the Predator platform and numerous other Tethrd gear. With time and experience, you can dial in your system to be perfect for you. Putting g moleskin here and there will quiet the platform down to virtually silent! Anyhow, it's good stuff and a great way to hunt, and keep the deer guessing. I cringe after realizing how much time I wasted sitting in a permanent or semi permanent stand over the last 40 years. Being able to move, even small distances between sits has brought great results!

  • @chrisdemartino3558

My tip for a little added security. The kong duck ascender is made for smaller diameter rope, 8mm I believe. I think the ropeman is made for 10mm. Anyways I don't like that the ascender is the only thing holding me onto the tether because it is mechanical. I have the kong duck and I leave the prusik on the tether line above the ascender. If the ascender fails or I make a mistake I still have the prusik that will catch me. You will only have a few inches of drop... I have had zero issues at all with the ascender to make me want this, just an extra piece of mind. I also take my linemen rope and put that through my carabiner as a back up bridge to my amsteel bridge. I leave the linemen a little slack so all my weight is on the amsteel bridge. I do this just incase bridge 1 fails.

I think the comment Jake made about being scared of heights can not be overlooked. I have never been a big fan of a hang on platform on a single tree, i always tried to hang my hang on stand in amongst 3 or more trees if possible. I felt safer. But with my saddle i have never felt safer! The tethr having you tied in and taunt to the tree feels so safe and secure. I have no issues, cause i feel secure and hunt even higher now. I have also done my rutcation with 2 weeks of all days sits with no problems.

Not below your belt. Also I have mine adjusted to be a stander. I’m not a sitting in saddle hunting. I’m in basically a modified stand/leave. But I’m more upright. Kinda like you see Ted. You probably had too much distance between the tree and your body. Think leaning at a 45 deg angle. I’m not leaned back that far more upright. That calls for a shorter tethr length. Don’t ever get comfortable above the ground. Hand you platform at knee height. And practice in your yard or some place like that. You can learn and get comfortable and even practice. And you only need to be 1-2ft off the ground. Then when you feel good about what your doing. Practice at hunting height. The bridge length/tethr length is what take the tweaking to fine “YOUR” desired style. Take your time. And figure things out. Watch lots of KZread videos. Hope this helps. God bless.

Tethrd should put diagrams and have demo vids on how to use each piece of equipment on their site.

I like the light weight, climb any tree, aspect of saddle system but I don't like hanging from a rope and donning camouflage tightly whiteys. I'm currently working on a new system I'm an older guy and a bit bigger than I used to be. Id like an electric elevator to lift me to hunting hight but I can't fit it in a back pack like you can in a video game. Lol

Do they make a complete kit? Like everything you need? The one's I've seen it seems like it's not a go to the woods/practice type of thing.

How do you safety climb a tree with a lot of limbs on your way up? Two lineman ropes? Atach one above the limb and the disconnect the rope below the limb and so on?

Just use your tether. I climb up to the limp, clip my tether in, hang on it, unclip my lineman rope, put the lineman rope over the limb, clip it in, then unclip the tether, and continue on. Takes some practice to be able to do it quickly but even moving slowly its efficient and handy to be able to get in trees like that.

I’ve been saddle hunting with the phantom for 2 years and didn’t know anything about the comfort channels. Interested in seeing how that works moving forward. Good tips guys

Don’t get too excited. They are more a gimmick than functional. It won’t hold position consistently. One of the comfort balls actually came out of the webbing. I think that feature need a redesign.

My saddle has them and they are handy for crooked trees. I haven't had a single issue with slippage or the balls moving.

How about rifle hunting from a saddle (our county rules require elevated rifle hunting)?

A prussik isn't the only friction hitch. Look into directional friction hitches, most notably for those using a prussik loop already the Klemheist. They allow one handed weighted adjustment in both directions with a micro pully. Ropeman devices cannot do that. Source: Hundreds of hours doing climbing tree removals. There are mechanical devices that allow for this as well, but they are significantly more expensive than a prussik loop.

can the hunters safety system be used as a saddle?

  • @osu_zach

Well, I want to start saddle hunting but with Tethrd, it's too damn expensive to "try it out" May have to find a cheaper solution to see if I even like that hunting method before shelling out for Tethrd gear.
