I HATE that I can’t get clear answers from anyone. DS 6/6/23. My centers nutritionist/dietitian is absolute shit But the levels for vitamins they told me to take And the levels I find from DS patients like fb groups Are vastly different . I’m more inclined to beleive a DS patient that’s 20 years out than I am to believe my center. Especially since they told me if he low fat forever when DS needs high fat. They told me 50-60 g of protein when as a DS I need 100+ So I’m a bit stumped.

Try eating 1/4 cup shelled pistaccios and a little cacoa every day. Be sure it's cacoa and not cocoa. You can mix the cacao with a little Stevia to moisten it. I mix the 2, then add a little unsweetened coconut milk to sweeten, then snack on it like raw brownie mix. Cacao and pistaccios have copper in it, which is required to absorb iron. I used to get iron infusions and was told I'd need them every 6 months for life. Then, I discovered coppers' connection to absorbing iron. My very next appointment, my iron, had maintained itself. Also, don't consume calcium of any kind within 2 hours before or after taking your iron. And be careful taking zinc or zinc foods near eating your copper foods because they deplete your cells of copper. One last one is coffee, olive oils, and all other foods containing polyphenol. While polyphenol are highly, highly, highly needed in your body, they block iron. Green tea does too. I keep thinking of more tips as I go. Do take vitamin c with your iron, preferably in a food form such as juice or a fruit like an orange. These changes may fix your problem. To make it easy, I set my alarm for 2 hours after I fall asleep and take it during my sleeping hours. That way, it doesn’t interfere with eating the other healthy foods. One last tip. The darker the coffee roast, the fewer the polyphenol. So if you drink decaf at night, drink a dark roast. The heat used to roast them kills much of the polyphenol. If you don't know what polyphenol are, you may be thinking they're bad. They WONDERFUL! They are powerful antioxidants that we really need. Just be aware that (for some of us), they block iron absorption. I'm sure you've been told about vitamin B12 needed for intrinsic factor. If that's off, the iron pills will just turn to rust in your gut. And don't forget folate. If none of this works, ask your doctor to check to see if you're methylating your nutrients. If you're not, iron deficiency is only one of many future problems you'll eventually encounter. There are special vitamins for that problem, though. They come pre-methylated. Good luck.

@@missafy7397 I moved to Vietnam post surgery and find this nearly impossible in this place especially since I can't read the labels here (they cover the English with a vietnames label) I haven't been taking iron since it's been 2 years now and I have felt way better without it.

Get lab work Check your iron levels often. If you become iron deficient it’s very difficult to get it back up
