Warner, Schneider, CR England, Swift, etc., are there to sponsor your CDL training, and experience. That's it. After two years, I suggest someone else, as you already have the necessary experience. The main reason is for insurance purposes, and you have enough experience to adjust to another company. Just keep your record clean, and do your time. It will pay off

I drove for Werner and you are absolutely correct. I sat for MANY hours, waiting for a load. When I called the dispatcher, it was an excuse or NO ANSWER. Now I'm in college, learning new skills for a new career. Life is full of other avenues, explore! Namaste.

BoboSixx II same here. I trained with Werner and when I got out of training, I got $0.28 a mile and barely ran. if I wasn't laid over at a truck stop waiting 2 days for a load, I was broke down at a terminal for 3 days each time. they gave me an old truck that had so many problems. refuses to get me another. I eventually left them.. thank god.

DRIVERS: Listen, I have driven for a few different companies, and I have to say if my home situation were different, I would still be driving for this company. Melton Truck Lines out of Tulsa Oklahoma. Never have I felt more at home at ANY of our terminals. I say "our" because they make the terminals like a drivers home away from home. They are the most family oriented company on the roads. Bob Peterson the CEO has your back as a driver, if you need it, you got it. I was sitting in Maryland when my mother inlaw passed away suddenly, and my ex wife lost it. I called my dispactcher and told him to please find me a load home, he said you got a fuel card, go home. They let me deadhead 600 miles to the house to be with my family, and told me to let them know when I could come back out. I was in a company truck, there was no...get your truck to a terminal.....they got me home.

I drove for Werner from 1990 to 1993. My first year was learning, always learning. After that it was as casual as could be. Life is not perfect. I would have stayed with them until retirement, but a tumor right behind my left eye and the operations that followed took that life away. I will never forget the great times and the sad times I had with Werner. For those that want to complain, do it somewhere else. I was never one to complain. Thank you WERNER.

Thank you for that kind help. I can relate to the story about dispatchers, numbers, and mixing up loads. I still get a call from a company that hired me two years ago, and after a week of constantly messing up my schedule, I quit because I hadn't even started on a run, and made any money. Five show ups, five screw-ups. Life continued in other places but every now and then I get a call from them, "Load is ready." ?? After two years?? Each time I play along, stop for a moment, and then say, "You know what?? I've given it deep thought and I'm quitting. Right here." The answer is, "Oh,.. okay." Happened five times in the last two years.

Wow must be really hard getting paid by the mile..? In the UK we are either paid by the hour (flat rate for first 8hrs) then time and a half up to the max.allowed 15hrs. OR..we are paid annual salary. Paid by the mile doesn't appeal to me - with the level of traffic in the UK you wouldn't make enough to eat! Good luck with that!

celadon, swift, werner, conway, covenant, heartland, jbhunt, knight, landstar, marten, pam, saia, are all publicly-traded transportation companies on the wall street. their priority is to pay the investors first, before trickling down the profit to their drivers. try working for a small private transpostation companies that have a well-maintained fleet of older trucks. you will get paid better, with a decent work/life balance.

Does any of this shock anyone? This is the case with most big OTR companies. U R no more important to them than the seat your sitting in. Many of them are sweatshops on wheels, mostly because they are driving down the freight rates in their "race to the bottom". Any company that has an abundance of students or trainees is usually a sign that this is a two year job max.! They are about turning out new drivers that will work cheap to get experience and then replace them with the next round of trainees when you get tire of not making any money. I definately agree with "chris c", you really should have a nitch in trucking to make any money, I do Ag related walking floor hauling. It's every thing I want out of trucking, profitable, I'm home daily with no weekend haulin, unless I choose to! I do also agree with "RunHard GetPaid" in that what ever you do, you need to keep the left door closed and keep on truckin however, you must work smart, and purposeful to avoid chasing your tail and giving your time away and O/O should alway keep a sharp pencil!

We got unexpected Christmas bonuses, as well has having holiday cookouts put on by the company for drivers who decide to stay out over the holidays. All they ask is you work. It's an all flatbed company, but you have the best equipment to work with, and safety is number one.

The other two locations are Billings or Rapid City, stay in motel & come home. No touch freight, pull doubles, home every other night, Great Pay free medical with Union backing. Only downside is pulling doubles through Colorado I70 in winter. The great paying jobs are out there you just have to do the research and talk to other drivers. Boy do Drivers love to talk.

How about .24 a mile on the proctor and gamble account out of Stlouis Mo. You would pick up in East St Louis IL and over to KC Kansas but they would not start paying you till you got to the west side of St Louis and the stop paying on the east side of KC while you were delivering on the west side. That's almost 80 miles without pay.

I drove for them and have to agree with everything he says here. I was hired to drive southeast regional then was told there is no southeast regional with Werner. Spent way too much time sitting in truck stops waiting for a load. Had to fight with them to fix any equipment issues and if they wouldn't fix something and it finally broke they treated it like it was your fault. Werner -- ok company to start with if you have no experience but once you do get out and find a better company. At least that's the way I feel about them.

I stared out with Werner in November 2004 after graduating from trucking school. I was with them 7 months. I trained for a good month and several days before I went solo and over the road. I had loads going to Canada, as far as Vermont, Far north as Michigan, Ontario, Quebec, and far west as California, Oregon, and so on. I was treated ok, only that I was a inexperienced rookie driver. My only problem was learning how to back a trailer, and getting used to the electronic logs, which was a pain in the neck. In all, I did the best I could. As far as Werner is concerned, il give them another try. Im a hard runner and Ill get the loads delivered on time.

Reasons 5,4, and 3 I had the complete opposite experience as a solo company driver on the lower 48 division. Besides that they asked me to train all the time but I told them "not interested". They never "forced" me into training and I didn't sit because I turned it down. I averaged 3200 miles per week w/ a 62mph truck.

I drove trucks in the UK and Europe before moving here to the USA and after I got my CDL here I received advice from more than one driver ..... 'Don't drive for Werner, Swift or Knight' and I never have. It is difficult though until you have some miles under your belt to show for experience. I found most companies here weren't interested in my exp' from the UK & Europe so I know how hard it must be for a green driver just out of school to move forward without utilizing one of these companies.

I know this vid was 5 years ago, but damn, what account were you on? I'm on Perdue, and just started driving this year. My manager knew who I was immediately, and starting pay is .46 with no experience at all. Usually enough miles to where I'm constantly working on re-caps, which is frustrating being as this is all new to me. Only time I've been getting screwed so far is when I make a rookie mistake.

I worked at Warner back in 2009. I was let go because during my scheduled time off for a court date about my daughter I was not able to answer my phone in the court room. Theyg left to voicemail etc. I went back to my truck the following day and when I tried to log into my equipment it wouldn't let me. I called in to be told I had quit by not answering their call. Honestly though it was the best thing they ever did for me!

8 months with Werner & i had had enough . I could give you more than six reasons ! But the most ridiculous thing that the Map To It was wrong more than right & the address to there own drop yard was wrong lol !!! I made it fine & as i left , a werner girl frantically stops me her trailer in a busy intersection asking me where this drop yard was she had been there two days looking . Not her fault , i was trained to look for the trailers . There like big signs .( Reason2 scary )They wanted me to train after only 3 months . I could go on & on but my heart goes out to all truckers . Thank you all for the jobs you do ! I am home every night and week ends off Thank God !

my husband drove for Werner his first year.. its a great starter company. he tried regional, otr and dedicated. he made the most money with dedicated. but over all experience wasn't that great. I agree with everything you said in this video. now he's local home every other night plus one day a week. he makes much more money and they know his name not his truck number. I guess its all about what you settle for in the end.

this Video is pretty much accurate when it comes to Werner. I have worked for them for 4 years. The only reason I stayed so long was because I did like the dedicated account I was on and I was home almost daily. I slept in my truck 1 day a week. I don't know if they still do it, but if you do training, they will lower your Mileage pay by 2 cents. I now work as a Yard Jockey for JB Hunt. It pays better and its hourly.

I drove for them for 10 years back in the good old days before CL left, as long as you talked to your dispatcher ya got more miles then you needed. I would probably work for them again even tho they have changed so much and Greg messed so much up before he quit. I take alot of pride in being a Werner driver because i still remember spending some weekends in Omaha talking to CL down in the smoking lounge and hearing how he built the company.

Drove for Werner Enterprises from 2001 to 2009(including Eagle Transport). I started out liking it. I came to Werner with experience which excluded me from doing time with a trainer. Everything on your top 5 list are "TRUE". Finally I left and went to John Christner Trucking for 2 years till my eye sight began to fail me and I had to come off the road. JCT was a step up with great miles and NOT a shortage of freight. If you pick up produce in California going to Florida or points east, expect to keep it. If they think you're gonna run late, they will swap you out and still give you something with great miles. I remember picking up a load at the Office Max yard here in Las Vegas and I took it directly across the street there on Cheyenne Ave. As long as the Werner family is making money, that's all they care about.

Werner driver here ...can confirm....not bad for a starter company just to get experience but I'm at the tail end of my first year in the industry and the .41 cpm for the lower 48 I'm getting paid just isn't enough to keep me here....also my last 3 loads have been under 300 miles and I'm having to wait 4+ hours for my next load....dispatch takes forever to respond and they never answer when I call...I will say though that the training was good I felt confident that I could handle myself once I got off my trainers truck and into my own also I have never had a problem with payroll...so yeah my opinion.....werner is a good place to start your career but once you get some experience it's probably best to find a place that pays better

I'm a yard dog like the driver picking up the LTI trailer next to him. We have a lot of Werner drivers come through our terminal. They are often looking for a specific empty trailer after dropping a loaded one which I have never seen. I've learned to direct them to other yards in the area which typically have empty Werner trailers. If I don't then I'll wind up watching them sit there forever waiting to find out where they can get an empty for their next load. So much more I can say about Werner, but suffice it to say that unless you have an inside connection who can set you up that they aren't even a good company to work for straight out of trucking school. On a side note: 32 cents a mile as top pay!? I'm gonna have to ask the next Werner driver I see about that. That's unbelievable.

I was trained as an automotive mechanic then worked for grey hound as a mechanic moved on to drive a NYC bus for city transit currently 15yrs. I fuckin hate it sic of NY and I don't want to give them another 12 yrs to retire. im looking to sell my house n purchase a semi truck n drive coast to coast along side my wife we both have CDL's she will be a beginner and I consider my self a flawless operator with an excellent record although theirs a major difference in vehicles, I feel I can be an effective semi truck operator and its something on my bucket list... any advise on where I should start with training g mostly on technic, knowing the vehicle and the pros n cons of this industry?????

Werner made it possible for us to buy a new wrecker and C Earl Brown / Hagerstown Freightliner to build a new building. They are not good for a by the mile driver but they are good any local economy that has a Freightliner dealership and a towing company!

I've been driving pro from 1979 till 2011 the wage's have never gone up only down, and it don't matter who you drive for it the same .32c per mile not changed sent's 1979 and that's top pay or $ 1.25 per mile for owner operator. well let see what change fuel was .45c Gal and a good meal was less then $5.00 and that's with tip. now fuel $4.00 Gal and a good meal close to $15.00 but the wage is still the same! As much as I love to drive Semi's and they are a lot better now then, then. You'll make more being a night manger at McDonald's then being OTR driver just add up your expenses for the year against your W2 or 1099 and you will see a less then minimum wage at the end. Look at all the time spent behind the wheel, loading and unloading, at scales, and waiting at a Truck stop waiting for a load. and a lot of that time you don't get paid for, or they count it as your time off. Where you want your time off is at home not some Truck stop in the middle of BFE The trucking company today will give you more B.S. to get you in, then you can haul in a year. Trucking to me was a love hate relationship, love doing the miles and many of the small town I've been in but hated the wages the overall hours then I started hating the company's I've worked for. Right now I feel sorry for anyone who think they are going to make good money OTR trucking it's a low paying job at best. The last 2.000.000 miles no accidents but the company's will hire a rookie over me because they can get them cheep. and sent's I can know longer live on what little they pay,by by.

I never drove for Werner, nor did I ever drive fir Schnieder(?), Roadway, J.B.Hunt. I have been an owner-operator since 1980. I haul loads which weight more than most loads every one else hauls. The average load I haul, has an average tare weight on 65tons; (65T X 2K# = 130,000#). All my loads are scrap steel, usually beams, plate, rails, rail car frames, rail car wheel sets. My trailer is a 4-axle single drop flat. My tractor is a 5-axle composite Mack-KW; (Mack frame, Kenworth cab, cat tier 3 diesel, 10sp trans, all axles powered.) Now I own the company, and hire drivers with min 5 years experience but have them take our training classes, before putting them behind the wheel of or trucks.

I was running teams and making 22 cents split. After 6 month they sent us a congratulations message on the qualcom to let us know we got a 1/2 cent raise... I have not worked for them since January 2000.
