I never had it overheat. I feel like people are too overly concerned about that. If you left the camera in the sun recording 4K 60p at the highest bitrate then yes you will see it overheat just like all of Sonys smaller cameras. But in 4K 24p it will go for quite along time before heat warning. Over 1hr 30mins Forsure. You just need to know when using this you can’t record 4k 60p for extended periods of time

@@LeeZavitzfor me overheat happen when I connected to iphone to use as a monitor and filmed in 4k 24p only for 5 min, then I changed heating settings to “high”, it was on standard and didn’t use iphone as monitor and it worked perfectly 👍🏻

@@LeeZavitz not sure it is the location but it looks great, maybe the VND was rotated in a position to polarize the light well and the image looks very well graded, rich colors, no oversaturation, perfect blacks and highlights.

@@SimeonKolev Its a great sensor. You can do alot with 15stops of DR. Plus anytime you see the ZVE1 in the shot I was using my A7siii to film that. SO they match Identically.

As someone who has recently bought the a7iv this feels like a punch in the nuts. Thanks Sony

Depends on what you are doing. The a7iv is still a professional camera the zve1 is kind of in a class of it’s own. It had professional features but in a body that is not. I don’t know if that makes sense. But you made a good choice with the a7iv

The A7IV is geared more towards hybrid shooters with an emphasis on photos. This is geared more towards video and actually has less features overall than the A7IV.

Lol I’ve been commenting for a while on other professional filmmakers channels that Sony just tricks every other camera company now and still remains the innovators haha and in hindsight has actually made cameras exciting again lol Cheers so much for your run through, comparisons plus you’re the only one who’s shown the subject auto reframe feature 👌👍❤

The overheating and single SD is kind of a dealbreaker for high end, longer duration stuff. For the casual video it definitely beats A7S3 though.

I am shooting long day weddings films in London For video only do think I should purchase 3 x Sony A7 IV Or 3 x Sony Z1 E1? Does the Z1 E1 have recoding limit , how many minutes and will it heat up and shutdown ?

Looks a great bit of kit but personally as the A7siii is my only camera and I use it for stills and video, i would much rather the much more comfortable body,evf and no overheating. And yes for me 12MP is more than enough!

It’s not for everyone. The overheating thing is kind of getting blown out of proportion. When I get a proper review unit in with final firmware I will spend some more time on this. I never had it overheat on me but I heard others that were doing tests. In 24p it was totally fine. It was just high bitrate 4K 60p for extended nonstop recording that it was struggling with.

wish they'd lower the price of the new A7S3's. That's what I'd prefer to get, but they're due for a refresh(and its a big investment), and this new cheaper camera has more features, just problematic heat, no evf, less robust form...

@@saxophonistscorner It’s due an update yes but it’s an amazing camera. Yes a 24MP sensor and 6K would be nice but blimey 4k is more than enough surely? The AF is amazing, yes it’s not the new Ai autofocus but that doesn’t suddenly make it bad, far from it. It is expensive though, can’t argue with that.

@@jamessonfield 4k is definitely more than enough, they should focus more on giving video users more video features for the next S series...if there is an S series still :( such as uncropped 4k 180,240, 480 AI features as we have seen in the new E1. At this point I dont see 8k being the future, I see advancement in slow-mo, hyper and development in lenses. A modern full-frame f4 at decent ISO can see better than I can in Pitch Black. It's an amazing time to get into video, picture, restoring/collecting memories and cant wait for what comes next. Every person can offer an amazing life to us in still and video and that is what I love.

Intro and b-roll was on a7siii and and rest of it was on zve1. They look identical cuz it’s the same sensor

lee, good/bad idea to interact w/competitors on social media (i.e. likes, hearts, subs) while i'm building business in their segments (e.g. youtube (you), weddings, commercial, etc.)? for networking, market exposure? -colton 🤟🏼

I would say The a7iv is an upgrade from the a7iii. But if you are using it primarily for video like talking head the zve1 is perfect for that

Thanks for touching on the overheating, most of other videos just praise all the good stuff. It is a pretty nice camera and tough to beat at that price but it would be better described with pro video capabilities but with some compromise. I wonder how it’ll 4K120 🤔

Well I can’t even touch on it much because it never overheated on me. But I also know It wasn’t final firmware. It was just what I was hearing from reviewers that had the camera weeks prior to release. When I get a review unit in for testing I’ll spend more time on that

Would this be good for a person that wants create videos of their family, travel, etc. Not necessarily vlog, just personal family video stuff. I want to move beyond the iPhone, I love the AI capabilities of this camera, I don't mind the price + FF lens price. I'm kind of stuck between this or something like the Fujifilm X-H2S

That’s something I was wondering. It theoretically could do all of that. but Sony isnt generous with bringing features over from new cameras. We all give them crap for that. I just want focus breathing compensation on my a7siii and it’ll probably never happen lol

@@LeeZavitz Their feature strategy just needs more logic. Sony pushes the tech with every release but lacks logic when more expensive cameras that have the hardware requirements doesn't get something a newer/cheaper model does. The e FX6 has focus breathing comp, but leaves out the FX3/A7SIII. And FX6 users probably don't even care about it as much as we're often not using native lenses anyway. Even crazier is that the "flagship" A1 doesn't have it.But I'm preaching to the choir. Anyways, looking forward to the ZV-E1 release.

Yeah it’s a huge upgrade over the a6000. Basically look at what an a7siii can do and this camera will give you the same image quality. Plus you’ll notice a huge improvement in battery life and autofocus over the a6000.

I would choose a7iv over zve1. Zve1 isn’t really a professional camera to be worked like that.

You touched so briefly on the overheating issue that I feel like thats a real issue no one is trying to really draw attention to but thats the one issue that is keeping me from buying this camera. If I have a camera that I'm carrying around with me this summer to vlog with and shoot personal content, its going to be out a lot in the summer heat. If its constantly overheating I can't use it for personal use, not even considering using it for professional use as a bcam or bts cam. I don't think theres a firmware update that can save it.

You realize I had the camera for 1.5 days? I just covered the new features and mentioned that it doesn’t have the same heat management. It never overheated on me it’s what I was told by others who did get to use the camera for a couple weeks. Once I get a review unit in for proper testing I will do a legit review

The camera is clearly an incredible piece of gear, but no gear is any good if you can't actually use it for longer than 31 minutes.

@@AdamInside Overheating occurs not simply from continuous filming, but from continuous camera operation. I'm recording 15 to 30 second 4k120 clips, sometimes longer depending on the project. If I'm working on a passion project with a model or athlete out on the coast in July, its 85 degrees, I can assume that after about 30 of BEING ON AND IN OPERATION the camera will overheat, shutting down the shoot. This issue alone outweighs the benefits of the camera.

Yeah 100% the only issue is that it’s 12mp so if you want higher res photos in a small camera the zve10 might be better at 24mp but it’s not Fullframe if that’s what you are looking for

Great features in a cheap plastic container. And oh yeah there's that thing with overheating.

Always buy whatever Sony that's out that has the features you need because they do not release firmware that adds features after you buy.

I dont see how the subject auto frame is useful, its cropping out part of your video so its safer to just do that in post and not actually lose any data

The only problem with this camera is that it does not provide a size advantage when you pair it with a full-frame lens (which is typically on the bigger side). Of course, we can get away with something like 14mm 1.8gm but most of the lens that typically gets paired up are usually larger than the body itself. Maybe for pure vloggers who hold the camera by the lens it might be an advantage, but for me, i feel that this camera does not provide the size and weight advantage over the FX3 because of the bigger lens that we typically use. But I do welcome all the new features, especially the AI autofocus. Lastly, it overheats which I wished Sony would have added at least a smaller fan much like the Panasonic S5II. I'm hoping that with this camera, the FX3 price goes down or hope Sony will launch a new FX3 with even higher dynamic range.

I hear you. It’s still really small and light and they have a few small lenses that are great. the overheating thing was never an issue the whole time I shot with it but I wasn’t shooting highest bitrate 4K 60 nonstop. I was just doing short 1-2min clips throughout the day. Once I get a review unit in with final firmware we will see how it does

It’s doesn’t overheat so much. It just isn’t going to be an ideal camera for rolling long periods of 4K 60p 10bit continuously. There’s going to be new firmware that addresses this since it wasn’t final

Well the a7siii is going on 3 years old now and doesn’t have the AI processor so I get why it can’t do some of the things the zve- does. But when it comes to UI and touch there’s no reason why it couldn’t have that. Heck, even focus breathing compensation would be nice

A7siii is what, 3 years old now? Ya pretty sure vloggers are going to buy an A7IV over an Siii at this point since that camera is a bit more modern and less video/more overall focused. Why do general content creators need FF for anyway? More expensive lenses? Sony Camera camp, so they fly a bunch of influencers out to promote their gear, they all pretend to be great friends (only with other influencers) and we get to see endless tweets about how cool it is to be part of that club, while we sit here and listen/watch on the sidelines? How did marketing come to this? This is the most blatant shillout I've seen. (Not you specifically lee, just the general cult of Sony and how it leverages its influencers.) AI because it's all the rage now as well, did Apple call it AI when they introduced the feature a few years ago? All that said, I do like what you did with this video if you can believe it.

Its an interesting segment. You ask why general content creators would want FF? I’m sure a lot of them would love an a7siii but it’s way out of their price range and don’t need a professional camera but would love that sensor and that’s where the is camera comes in. I do think it might be a bit expensive for most. It would have been amazing if it was under 2k. I’m sure it will sell well but it would sell even better at like $1799 or something

According to Gerald Undone the ZV-E1 overheats in 73 degree weather so that leaves out any buyers in hot climates unless you vlog in the middle of winter. As an A7S3 owner this camera is an insult and all Sony needs to do is send a much needed firmware update to their flagship camera. At this price point you get no EVF, one card slot, micro HDMI and overheating issues. I also own the OM1 and it could run rings around this camera for the same price.

Would you be less concerned with that if the camera was around $1599 instead of $2200?

The AI Autofocus is TERRIBLE lol But overall it's a pretty good camera, I like it very much.

Better to have a working Toyota than an overheated Lamborghini sitting in the garage... Toyota still be working past 15minutes.

That's my point, using this camera even for such a small amount will render it unusable, whereas the other able-bodied cameras will keep on trucking along while you sit there with this in your backpack unable to be used. When they enable 4k120 it would not surprise me if this thing will be capped at 5mins

This is the first video of your that i feel disappointed, wish you wouldn't go with the trend and say 5 reasons why not to buy this camera... Overheating, micro hdmi, single slot no evf, poor screen and all marketting gimmick that comes with a crop.... People trashed Canon r5 for overheating, this camera gets praises... 1. Reason to buy it - You don’t need multiple batteries because it will overheat before the first one is dead. Sorry but at 70° everyone’s having the overheating issue. I live in the Philippines so it’s 74-90 and no way am I buying one.

"Dynamic active stabilization is buttery smooth like gimbal" - seriously... ? Seeing your sample footage I am wondering if you really believe what you say or you would like to believe... It looks terrible and cropped and just mehhhh. I guess that is what you have to say when you are paid by Sony and get on this lovely island with other creators. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of Sony and I am also biased but please be mor eobjective and do not recommend peopl to sell A7sIII and get this vlogging camera instead.

First of all. Nobody is paid by Sony. 2nd of all its way smoother than with out on. Maybe buttery wasn’t the correct word because at the time I was watching it back on the screen of the camera and it looked amazing. 3rd if all I’m just showing what it can do. You can make your own choices on if it’s for you or not. I never told anyone to sell their a7siii lol

The Dynamic Active Stabilization did look terrible, Lee. Queasy, hidden jerky like a very poorly set up dolly, along with visibly worse resolution.@@LeeZavitz Otherwise I do appreciate the effort to show some footage and show some pluses and minuses. Happily the price has come down with the A7CII and A7CR taxiing on the runway now.

If u know a bit about Adobe AE u won't bec amazed by its so called AI framing features. Not to mention this feature will hurt the resolution by more than 50%. This camera will use line skipping or giving up phase AF in 120p (like Fx30) to fool those amateurs who know little about specs. Zve1 is a OK camera, but for this price, no Full Hdmi, No EVF, terrible steadishot,,, huh???

No one is buying this camera. They priced out there actual customers for this camera.

I just preordered it as my b-cam for my fx3 to replace my A7C as my travel, video camera. I'm looking forward to its dynamic stabilization.
