I also have a 2006 Maxima SE with 255,000 miles! I just dropped in a new engine 2 weeks ago and love how easy these cars are to work on as well. My old engine had the timing chain issue and I had some stuff "rigged" on it over time. It also had 2 previous owners. I always assume that if a car has had 3 or more owners, at least 1 or more of them are not going to do things properly. It was just much better and cheaper for me to drop a new VQ35DE engine in. Doing a Road Trip to this summer for my GF birthday :). Look forward to getting another 250,000+ miles out of it over the years as it is in perfect condition now. JUST REMEMBER EVERYONE, CHANGE YOUR OIL EVERY 3000 MILES, 3 MONTHS OR 1000+ MILE ROAD TRIP :D. I rather change it too early than too late LOL. That timing chain ain't no joke to fix either. Super difficult to fix at home and any half-decent mechanic will charge more than entire engine is worth to do this.. Much cheaper & better for Engine swap (VQ35DE).

4 1/2 years ago I bought an 07 as my first car, wow, impressive how this car has been holding up, yes I changed the ac compressor, alternator, spark plugs, etc. But overall I love my maxima.

I got a 2006 6 speed from the original owner with 67k miles last year. They've done some of those things. This is by far the best and most fun car to drive that I've ever had.

Great video! Straight and to the point. I have experienced all these issues and fixed them except timing chain tensioner/guide. I still hear the guide rattling noise ever so slightly and goes away after I let up on the gas. At 200K miles, so far so good. Thanks you 1A AUTO for ALL YOUR amazing videos!

Yes!! The trashy power steering pump- high pressure hose leak 9 times out of 10! I have a 2008 and pretty much have had every issue plus some. I had so many problems, I taught myself how to fix cars because I couldn't afford to take it anywhere. But now I can just about rebuild engines

I have an 04 maxima that has 194k. I've had it since 62k miles and I've had to buy a new Trans at 103k but overall it's still running good. Besides the basic maintenance, it's been reliable

I have a 2007 Maxima and yes I have had all these problems except the timing chain. Another issue people have with these cars is the cvt transmission they don’t hold up.

Great video. Dealt with all of these issues in my 04 maxima. Want to add: fuel pressure regulators can go bad and u may have trouble starting or have a fuel smell if u turn vents on after startup. Also the VIAS butterfly valve goes out commonly and throws CEL and code p1800- just buy a VIAS block plate and block the ends of vacuum lines. If ur mufflers rot out, ebay catback is $300 shipped versus paying that per muffler OEM.

That's why I don't have the timing chain issue I always change my oil sometimes early. Been through all of those issues except AC and timing chain

Nissan had a class action lawsuit because of the Timing Chain Guides, they knew about the problem

Changing the oil has nothing to do with it; all comes down to bad design & luck of the draw. I was lucky that my 07 was still under warranty when I heard the infamous timing chain noise. She's had her oil changed faithfully.

Not until recently has my 08 Maxima needed a new power steering pump because it's leaking. I have had to change the cam shaft sensor which is the only major thing that has gone wrong since I bought it. Considering my car is 15 years old it has held up well I think

I’m getting my 2005 Nissan Maxima checked out from a Nissan Auto body shop. Couple issues with and and I hope it isn’t too expensive

I have a 2004 Maxima with 120,000 5 spd one owner. Drives fine and it's in really mint condition but that starting noise bothered me. Thanks to this video I already have a clue as to what the issue is.

My 05 Ti-L has done only 105 original kilometres. I have had to replace 2 leaky tappet covers, 2 high pressure power steering hoses and repaired an air-conditioning leak. I love the car it is so nice to drive, however as the mechanic said engine and transmission oil changes must be done sooner rather than later. I serviced my transmission at 90,000 kilometres, next service will be at 30,000 as the sludge build up was very thick on the trans pan. My engine oil ran low on one occasion albeit briefly, luckily I have no timing chain issues and the engine is super quiet and super smooth. Not a car recommended for low maintenance owners.

I have a 2007 Nissan Maxima with the codes p0420 and p0430 and I’ve took it to my machanic and they only put two spark plug non fouler on the bank 2 oxygen sensor so the codes won’t show and have the car back to me and said the transmission is going out because it won’t go past 20 mph, but when I lookup the codes it pops up catalytic converters. I need to know if I need to by new catalytic converters for the codes or get a new transmission?

I have a 08 maxima right now and thx for this info.

Hi, Question I have a 04 6Gen. NISSAN MAXIMA 3.5v6 I just bought a brand new battery today, had the alternator tested an came back 100% fine. Thought the new battery would fix my issue, it didn't as soon as I start the vehicle it dies rite out I'm thinking of many sencers it could be But No engine light is coming on so I can't pin point exact part I need. I'm think that it could be IACV IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE or THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR how can I tell what I need exactly with no engine light coming on ?

I have an 07 Maxima SE with the CVT Transmission ..... 91.000 trouble free miles ( AC Low Pressure Hose replaced by me at 60.000 miles before it leaked). Full synthetic 5W-30 motor oil at first oil change and ever since, done every 4 months regardless of mileage at home at a cost of $105 dollars a year . Power Steering and brake fluid drain and fill & bleed & a complete CVT Fluid change done every 30.000 miles with Amsoil Full Synthetic CVT Fluid (Pan drop on the first change to clean out break in wear metals ) 12 quarts each time via the transmission cooler return line via it's own pressure for it's self flush while adding through the dip stick at a cost of $155 dollars every 30.000 miles . Just changed the belts and every rubber hose in the car at 90.000 miles .....$1470 dollars on Oil Changes and $465 on Power steering ,Brake & CVT fluid over 14 years and passing the car onto my Daughter in October . Treat it right , maintain it , NEVER LET THE OIL get below half way on the dipstick (I don't burn a drop) and it is a great car .

I have an 2007 Maxima and I heard a whining sound similar to an alternator going bad. I had the tensioner changed and the the noise went away. I also change the alternator. I have 280,000 miles on it now. It's a good car just make sure not to go to Firestone to diagnose any problems they will make you change things just to make money. Find a local mechanic.

I got a 05 max 205k miles it drives perfect besides the abs is out which cruse control and speed odometer dont work and sometimes i got to shut it off and restart it to fix its sluggish problem it has sometimes like its getting way to much fuel but besides that i would take it anywhere.

i have a problem where my 05 maxima starts fine when it’s cold but once it’s hot it starts revving high and the shifter bangs when switching P to D or D to R etc.

I have a problem with my dashboard meters the plug is lose I try many times to corrected but 😭 car is GMC yukon 2 04

You guys have given me great info in the past. In all honesty. If I love my 2007 Maxima and it has only 115k miles but the trans is bad, is it worth it, to replace it ????? The mechanic said "transmission, engine mount, sway bar and radiator" = Is it a lost cause ?

Oh yea my camshaft sensors went out causing intermittent limp mode. Those connectors getting oil on them is also a problem. I also have the timing chain guard slid out of place. The sound is a dead giveaway but switching to a thicker oil seemed to help.

I have 2 camshaft to change and complete timing chain set up.

I got a 2008 Maxima. It runs good. But the tick sound starting I here that. Let me know how to deal with that problem. Love this car. 138k she's going ok. Just needs maintenance.

The automatic transmissions are known failure points as well. Also, 3,000 mile oil changes... People following the owner's manual will be freaking out.

Prob just the fans themselves. Happened to me and a quick junk yard trip & $40 later fixed the issue.

I have a 6 speed manual in the orange color and it’s been very good to me. Not saying they are reliable cats but I’ve been lucky so far

I remember that color . How many miles do you have on the vehicle I have an 04. 6 speed manual as well a pewter color with a 155000 miles I replaced the Cam shaft censor and 1 catalytic converter that's been the biggest issue so far

Mine is 04. Been through the camshaft and crankshaft sensor only twice in 8 years. Timing chain guides 4 times. And replaced the entire suspension once. Everything else works perfectly fine 🤷🏽‍♂️

Hey I have an issue with my 04 Maxima. My thermostat is going up to hot but then goes back to its regular pos. It smokes on the passenger side at times but my check engine light isn't on. Also my car will drive for a while & then will shut down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be your water pump and/or thermostat. My 07 would knock and then my car would overheat.

Something like that happened to my 2004 it turns out that my alternator was completely fried and it was ruining on the battery alone and the car wouldn't go more than 10mph or just shut down completely

How to change a air conditioner compressor out on a 2007 Nissan maxima

After buying a used Nissan Maxima 2005 and replacing the radiator and the transmission it only lasted 24 hours running in good condition with a motor oil lick. After the 24 hour it turned off on me while driving it on the highway and never turn on again…. The mechanic said they couldn’t find the problem which won’t let the car turn back on. What do you think about my situation??

you mightve had a leak on your starter maybe after changing oil trans or any fluids and a accidental leak on the starter could make the car go from 100 to 0 in secs or alternator could be bad

Never get an 08 ! I think it's the year that has the most reported problems out of all years without a doubt

I had a 2007 maxima , transmission was so weak . Changed it three times

Unfortunately I've been having an issue with my abs system. Abs, tcs off, brake, and slip lights are all on and systems disengaged. I've installed new sensors, replaced the abs module(used) still the same problem. Abs module hums for about 5 seconds when key is turned to the on position

I’m actually a bit shocked that you didn’t mention CVT transmission problems. Based on my research, that seems to be the most common problem these cars have.

The slip light is your traction control. Probably a bad wheel sensor making the car think that a tire is spinning

I've owned two 2004 Nissan maximas one thing you forgot to mention were the transmissions and the valve bodies being an issue and having to block off passages with a kit sold on the internet my first one did it very badly and I went on the internet and it's a typical problem of these transmissions on the 3.5 motor transmissions anyways

My 05 3.5 maxima is good in 1st revs great but no power over 60mph if you floor it. is happy at 2000 revs but 3-6 is gutless, has new plugs, good oils, made a noise when passing and now drones if you accelerate to hard

I have a 5th generation Maxima and my break and battery light come on but they go off. There's no pattern to it like accelerating sometimes it goes off other times it doesn't. I've checked the wiring physically and I can't figure out what's loose or what connections bad. When those two are lit on my warning lights I disconnect the positive and the car dies. But when the lights are off I take the disconnected positive and it's car still runs

Every transmission is a bad one when you don’t get ya damn fluids changed...Some of you just need a Toyota becuz there the only cars that’ll drive 200k miles without one damn transmission service and be ok

Bad Transmission, bad bad transmission, bad transmission, bad transmission, bad transmission should be on top of the list as first 5 problems

My 04 had it replaced 3x by the dealer before they got it right in 08 at approx 55kmi

The biggest problem I see is a Nissan under the radiator cap...

This is an easy one... the problem has been circled on the grille... Nissan!!! Worst transmissions ever made...CVT...
