Need help! 2003 GMC Sierra SLT 2 wheel drive 200,000+ miles Crank but no start. Replaced fuel pump Throttle body Idle position sensor AGR valve Map Sensor. I have fuel and fire. 2 weeks ago I started it, drove it out the drive way, got about half a mile down the road, when it started idling really high, then bogging out, and finally died. I got it started, but it wouldn't go over 5 mph. I got it parked, now it won't start.

When they start rusting just replace the brake lines all at once and you wont need to worry about them. It's a bit of work but it's not rocket science and it's not as expensive as you might think compared to replacing a foot or two at a time. I live in NE Ohio and drive an '04 GMC.

I had that issue. A shop wanted $2,500 to replace all the lines! I said they were crazy. They said they would have to bend each line. (I actually have experience in that trade in Aerospace). Instead, for $68 I bought Genuine GM OEM lines online and found a shop to replace all lines for $500. I was happy, and yes I could have done the job but had remodeling going on....

2003 GMC Sierra, gone through about three fuel pumps and three wheel bearings in the past 100,000 miles, from 80k to 180k. Compared to buying a new vehicle, these were inexpensive repairs. I can't get rid of the truck, it still looks beautiful to me and it's hard to find a long bed truck anymore. No rust, Rhino liner bed and tonneau cover to boot

@@Vehement_poet I have a 2000 gmc sierra still and it has 318k miles on it. Only one of these problems in this video have happened and that's the wheel bearing. Only the passenger side. My dad owned it brand new from 2000 to 2005 and then I bought it from him and have had it ever since. Currently working on completely restoring it rather than buying a new or even a new/used truck with the prices these days. It's mostly still in great shape, but I'm going to customize it and make it like new again as much as I can. Wil eventually do an engine swap, but for now, it runs great other than a slight oil pressure issue. Only big job I've ever had to do on it was replace the transfer case. Transmission is still original. Have had many people randomly ask to buy my truck over the years and I always turn them down. I'll never get rid of her...best damn truck on the planet!

I have not experienced any of the problems you mentioned but I am going to double check my front wheel bearings. Problems I have had include an ABS light and ABS Control Module that needed to be resoldered, A/C Compressor failure, rear sliding window that was replaced 3 times by the Dealer under warranty and continued to leak until I installed a 3'rd party all metal track window after it was out of warranty, 4x4 selection switch on the dash needed to be resoldered, module that controls AC fan speeds failed and was replaced, needed to clean the mass air flow sensor a couple times, replaced a sensor on the fuel injection system that was causing the truck to run rough, poles on original battery broke and replaced by Dealer under warranty, and finally I just replaced the water pump in June 2021. Southern truck with no rust anywhere. Needs a new headliner, front seat covers and a paint job due to sun fading (last black vehicle I will every buy).

Always noticed that my headlight switch doesn't seem to do anything, but didn't care to look into it. I will now order another one, thanks! I bought my 1999 GMC Sierra 2500 6.0 4wd, long-box, extended cab for $2,500 CAD with 287k in 2012. It had the engine swapped, and both front wheel bearings done by the guy I bought it from. It needed a bunch of front end parts, a new passenger window motor/regulator, and the box was in rough shape. I knew all this when I bought it, but I was only using it sparingly when I needed a truck. I just recently replaced the 2 front u-joints and transfer case front seal. I got lucky and a guy loading pine mulch into the back with a loader in 2013 wrecked my box, and their insurance put a pristine box from an '05 on complete with a new paint job for $0! Other than that I've replaced the spark plugs and fuel filter when I was having severe issues with bogging and acceleration. Runs fine now. The rocker panels are rusted both sides (central Canada...snow/salt), but I'm not sure I will bother with them as the truck still only has 297k on it 10 years later.

I have a 2006 GMC SIerra 4.8 L 4WD Manual shifter on floor. Great truck. I had to resolder my instrument cluster panel board. (It went totally dead one day). works fine now. ALso replaced the idler/belt tensioner and belt. The steering shaft will develop a "clunk" that you hear when going slow speeds like in parking lots. I fixed mine by packing the steering shaft with marine grease. Someone had a video on how they did this. Took only a minute. I went through some high water and afterwards all my tail lights stopped working. It was just the wiring junction block located under the frame right behind the spare tire. Removed the block connector, cleaned the corrosion and dirt from it and reinstalled it. Easy fix. The door speakers had to be replaced as they were "buzzing". Put new shocks on it. That's about it. Super reliable vehicle. I had all the fluids changed 2 years ago. Radiator/transmission/transfer case etc. (I am in the South, so no corrosion issues). I pulled a large boat with mine for years. Use the towing switch on the gear shift. Clean the MAF sensor every so often. Makes a huge difference.

2004 Sierra 4x4 Crew cab SLT bought with 20k miles in 2006. Replace Water pump 2 times. Replace hot/cold actuator for front vents 2 times think it was the same one. Replaced front axle seals at around 100k miles. From 20k miles to 90k miles I pulled a 6,000 lbs camper about 7 times a year for 8 years. Replaced rear axle seals around 140k miles. Now have 3 exhaust manifold stud bolts broke off. Leak on Drivers side exhaust manifold. So that's the next thing I need to get fixed. gauge I like the truck and plan to see how many miles I can get on it. Use it as a spare vehicle and son drives it quit abit. He had a 700lbs camper in the bed for about 18 months and drove it around 15k miles with the camper and in the wind. I think that may have caused the rear axel seals to leak. Still runs good. And I didn't have to replace the Brakes until 140k miles. I do change fluids and get things fixed as soon as something is not right. So happy over all. It has been my favorite vehicle over the 40 years I have owned 17 different vehicles including wife and son's. So Thanks for the info on these trucks. I recommend them. No perfect vehicle but like this one overall. March 2020 Bought a 2016 Ford F150 Lariat for the aluminum body to avoid rust going forward. Hope the ford 2.7L Eco boost does as well as the GMC 5.3L v8 did.

I've got a 2004 Sierra 5.3 SLT. I bought it in 2018 with 145,000km on it. I've put just over 100,000 on it and have done regular oil changes and preventative maintenance myself such as regular oil changes, brakes, drivetrain fluid changes, spark plugs. But I've had to replace the following since I've owned it, Radiator Wheel bearings Power steering pressure hose twice (power steering pump and lines aren't built to stand -30c up in Canada) One of the Catalytic converters (may need to change or remove the other one soon) Transfer case half (upgraded to heavy duty aluminum from magnesium for the rear half of the case due to a solenoid that rubs a hole through the top of the inside over time). The biggest issue was the camshaft replacement. One of the lifters was failing due to a siezed roller and gouged itself and the lobe of the camshaft. So I pretty much had the whole top end redone including all new gaskets for the engine and a new water pump kit, timing kit. So that was a big bullet to bite. It's rusting pretty bad now kn the cab corners and wheels wells being in Canada. But I love the truck and will drive it into the ground

A1 please help. I have a 02 gmc yukon xl 1500. Problem is the PRND321. Last weekend I was in the mountains and it started doing this. I shift to nearly and it's in neutral but the N won't light up which when I was in 4L and went to 4H it wouldn't do it because the N wouldn't illuminate. Same happens when putting it in park. It goes to park but doors won't unlock. It's not a constant thing but just comes and goes. Any ideas? Thanks

My 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 has been a good truck overall. One nagging problem is the bezels for the door switches. The plastic clips are broken that attach the bezel to the door and the bezel has to be taped in place. My understanding is the bezel must be replaced. There are several variations of the bezel which complicated the situation.

I also have a 2011, and it has had so many more problems than the ‘01 (had to replace collapsed AFM lifters twice). The ‘01 has its issues with that many miles, but the major components are still going strong. I know it would smoke the 2011 in a quarter mile, both have the 5.3.

Once I find out whats causing these issues I will go and get the replacement parts. Thank you!

2005 GMC Sierra 1500 4WD 4 door, noise when foot is on the accelerator (load on the drivetrain) starting at 25mph to about 70ish mph. ONLY makes what I would call a cavitation noise when I touch the accelerator or when the truck is coasting down thru the gears. Wheel bearings still??

My 2004 Sierra 2500HD has had major cab water leaking issues. The main areas were 3rd brake light, rear window seal, rear cab vent, door weather stripping (this was a major leak) and rubber grommet for the parking brake cable thru the floor pan. Also, the oil pan leaked oil. An excellent running truck though.

I bought an 04 brand new. Had it until this past October when another driver ran a stop sign and I collided with him totaling out my truck. I had over 408,000 miles at time of wreck. Mine was a 2wd so that transfer case sensor doesn't apply. Only problem I had in this list was the turn signal multi switch. Keep in mind I already had over 300,000 miles when this failed. Wheel bearings never replaced entire life of truck. Headlight switch never had issue. Fyi this was a 1500 ext cab with 4.8 motor. My biggest issue was the factory built transmission. Only good for 100,000 miles. Had it rebuilt with upgraded parts and got well over 200,000 with no issues. Water pump replaced 3 times total. Alternator replaced 1 time. And my AC hasn't worked for the last several years only cause I never had it fixed. And the cluster gauge had to be replaced once and later I did a solder repair on it myself.

Good to know, WW! I bought a used 2004 1500 SLE with the 5.3l last year. It had 202K on it, I've added another 4K. Have had only a problem with the drivers door outside door handle, had to de-rust and lubricate tailgate release and replace rod clips, and my cluster lights will go out or dim. Corrective action for the cluster is to push on the headlight switch. Suspect a bad connection, possibly corrosion. Other than that, she's a dream. Even drove it from PA to FL and back last summer to tow grandson's car down.
