    Personally DCS is the best due to its amazing graphics weapon systems, as well as aircraft detail. For example, the A-10C Warthog is extremely detailed with an almost 500 page manual. This goes for all other aircraft you pick up along the way. As for the maps, Persian Gulf is one of the most beautiful scenery’s in any simulator. If you take a look at it on the Eagle Dynamics KZread, they have a great showcase. This is just an opinion and hope you guys agree.

    @@mariorossi7343 True, but it's a sim, not an arcade game. And you don't really have to read all that. I fly several advanced DCS modules and I haven't read any of them. Short 20-page illustrated guides (e.g. by Chuck Owl) and/or task-specific KZread tutorials work fine. The best idea: just get into a Discord group and ask for help - hit me up if you want to join ours. I often host a temporary non-dedicated private server for group flying practice / training / set-up help.

    My top 5 flight simulators that i’ve played: (Keep in mind I haven’t played any combat sims) 5: Aerofly fs 2. Aerofly is in my opinion just great for being the best option (in my opinion) for mobile. It’s cheap (and cheaper than X plane mobile), is quite realistic, beautiful and it delivers just a fun pleasant flying experience. But for PC, there cheaper, better options. 4: FSX Fsx wouldn’t normally be better than Aerofly fs 2, but the addon market saves it. It probably has the most addon-active community out of any simulator. You can find every Airplane and pretty much every Airport or you can revamp your world spending just 60€, into something that would compete with mfs 2020. Sure you gotta spend some money to make it an top-notch flight simulator, but if you are using simulators like you should use them, that’s basically a given. If you don’t wanna spend any money, there still many good freewares and even without them, the sim is just a pleasant experience. If you want to take it one step further, you can check out the multiplayer. 3: mfs 2020 Well for an sim this hyped and this new, you would suspect, that it would be higher on the list, but it isn’t. That’s because the physics are basically FSX physics. The normal airplanes are ok, but again if you’re an real simmer you’re not gonna use them and instead buy some addon aircraft. Well of course the scenery is great, but if you spend just a bit of money, you can achieve a much better result in other sims. There not many addons for mfs, which is 100% a negative point, but since it is so young, we will have to see what comes next. I’m sure microsoft will fix most issues. 2: X-plane 11 X-plane is great. It has enough addons such as scenery and planes and is very realistic. It’s a pleasant experience to fly planes in it and the planes that come with the sim are ok. It looks very beautiful (second most beautiful after Mfs 2020). One large problem is, that scenery for X-plane 11 take up much more disc space than for example for FSX. But overall quite a good sim. The mobile version of it is also solid. 1: Prepar3d And the final crown is taken by prepar3d. It has even more addons than Fsx, as all addons that work for FSX also work for Prepar3d and there also some that just work for prepar3d. It is also very beautiful. But the most important point is it realism. In my opinion, Prepar3d is the most realistic sim on the market. There’s a reason it is used for Professional airline Simulators. The sim is developed by Lockheed martin. They are the producers of most of america’s actual fighter jets, so they do know what they are doing. Every move of your yoke is displayed correctly and it just feels like you’re flying an actual airplane. Many say, that X-plane is more realistic than Prepar3d. But I would disagree. It is also quite cheap for an professional flight sim. Only like what 60 bucks? If you have the money, definitely choose between X-plane and prepar3d. They aren’t that different in quality. Though I doubt anyone has ridden until here, but if tell me and you’ll get... An shoutout.

    I spend most of my simming time these days either flying aerobatics in a variety of piston and jet aircraft, or doing short VFR or IFR trips up to about 60-75 minutes. Any longer than that and i become acutely aware that I'm sitting at my desk, playing a game. Being an actual pilot I can assure newcomers to simming that while it may be a real as it gets, it is nowhere as good as the real thing. But a desktop simulator is still a useful practice tool, especially for getting a first exposure to IFR approaches into challenging airports like Narsarsuaq, Greenland. I still use mostly FSX and occasionally FS9, since some of the planes I like the most hard to find for FSX. I found the XPlane interface a bit overly complex at times and didn't like having to learn a new set of key commands for the most inputs like raising/lowing landing gear and flaps.

  • @moes2168

    @moes2168

    Everytime I have tried to get into Xplane, I found the interface overly complicated as well. Having used PMDG 737 w/ FSX..... basically every button being functional and you just pan around cockpit and press buttons as needed....can't get more simpler (or more realistic).... I found Xplane lacked this, maybe it was the planes, not sure.

    I like the mouse system that hovers the mouse pointer over the dashboard in Aerofly FS2, i don't like to use the controllers and this is a very well made implementation to control instruments. Even though it DO use the controllers, the feeling of flipping switches for gears and flaps up/down, VTOL VR is quite well made in this respect, but since the battery runs out in the damn VIVE controllers and i once had to land the F26 plane using only one hand, i prefer Aerofly FS2 because of the mouse control.

    Over the last year, I'm flying in VR more and more... almost exclusively nowadays. FlyInside allows you to use VR with Prepar3D and FSX, but performance is rumored to be not so great. The other three support VR natively, but Aerofly FS2 has the best performance. Keep an eye on FlyInside's early access flight sim, too, though... it's not there yet, but it's being built from the ground up for VR support. Another one I'm quite fond of is the (relatively) new IL-2 Sturmovik "Famous Battles" series (IL-2. While not quite the study sim that DCS is, the VR performance is great, the flight models are pretty solid, and they've just added World War I aircraft and tanks to the set of modules (in early access). The current number of WWII and WWI flyable aircraft & variants is currently siting somewhere north of 40 right now. Possible candidate for 2020?

    I'm going with X Plane mostly because I fly helicopters mainly and the eye candy for VFR flying is pretty good. I get a kick out of chasing cars with my Bell 407, and occasionally spotting a police car hauling ass up the road. I only have 3 issues with X Plane. The ground handling is unrealistic, the ATC is horrid, and the lack of AI traffic makes X Plane a lonely place to fly. Make that 4 issues, the water in X Plane just looks dead. FSX did a better job with water effects.

    IL-2 Sturmovik BOX should at least have gotten an honorable mention. Nice video anyways! I've been playing PC flight combat sims since 1987 when I first touched Microprose Gunship for my C64. For me it's DCS & Sturmovik BOX for life! The PC flight sim development I have been actively experiencing and witnessing in the course of these 3 decades is truly mind-blowing! In 1994 I bought Microprose Fleet Defender and spent years with hundreds of hours in that Tomcat cockpit. Now quater of a century later that saw so many wonderful combat flight sim companies come and go, think of the JANE's series for instance, I find myself back in Heatblur's Tomcat in DCS and it is like a childhood dream being digitalized! DCS brings it home for me. DCS and Sturmovik BOX all the way!

    I agree with the rankings, I've had FSX for a while, with the Acceleration version and I liked it, but FSX has run its course and it's getting ancient, unless you still have a computer with Vista or Windows 7, 32 GB of RAM and a 4 GB graphics card, bottom line, it is a 32-bit application, which is weird because Microsoft never released a 64-bit version knowing in 2006 computers with the 64-bit platforms were starting to appear on the market, but that's why P3D is available. I'm also sure a lot of us will be looking forward to Microsoft's FS 2020, which is a whole new platform in flight simulation and I think the folks at Laminar will start looking at the future versions of X-Plane.

    While i prefer civilian sims, i really love DCS and consider it to be the best flight sim out there. The realism is staggering, it basicly has no poorly made addons, all addons are very complex either in aerodynamics (spitfire etc) or/and in systems (a10, hornet etc) ... it looks great and still performs with very good FPS without any stuttering at all. DCS not only nails the flight dynamics, it nails the systems, weapons etc. It also has decent damage model, not as good as IL2 though... I just wish DCS had whole planet to fly in.

    I fully support, that X-Plane is at position 1 ! Not to forget that Microsoft never developed a flight simulator by themselves. In1995 they just acquired the knowledge from the flight sim pioneer Bruce Artwick's company BAO; formerly SubLogic. Up to the present day, laws of aerodynamics are a kind of mystery for Microsoft; just selling shiny and details airplanes and nice looking sceneries; they never made it to understand the physics of flying; in comparison to X-Plane.

  • @hedegaard8

    1995? You mean 1979? And Microsoft has stated with FSX that they interpret how planes behave, wheras Xplanes environment determines how planes behave. So that isnt a secret, its on purpose, but you seem really shaky in your history.

    I love the 'look' of Prepar3d and would love to use it, but the cost is prohibitive, almost $300 Australian. That is why X-Plane is the only choice, which is to say there is no choice. Plain out of the box, I don't like the 'look' of X-Plane, there is a somewhat washed out look. I would like some suggestions here what *reliable* add-ons there are out there that would help solve the X-Plane 'look' that I don't like. By *reliable* I mean that they won't stop working with newer versions of X-Plane, that would drive me nuts.

I'm not a huge fan of injecting an already dated mess with $500 worth of aircraft and texture upgrades to make it look marginally better than stock and pull 30fps out of it despite running a 1070 and 7th gen i7. Xplane it is I guess..! FSW seemed so promising and I really wish it worked out in the end. I really liked how they approached UI and simplicity. I currently use FSX:SE and it hasn't exactly aged well even just compared to the Xplane11 demo I tried.

    X-Plane 11 for Commercial/Private flight DCS World for Military flight I used to fly in FSX/P3D, but XP11 sold me entirely and I have not looked back. I do miss the extensive payware addon library that P3D has, but with more products being ported to XP11 every year, it only shows that X-Plane still seems to be where the future of commercial/private flight simming is at. I would also like to replace FSX at #5 with Infinite Flight for Android/iOS. FSX is a dead horse and you can get much better stock performance with P3D than FSX, plus enhanced stability and 64 bit support. Infinite Flight despite it's relative simplicity does an amazing job for a mobile flight simulator and it certainly does merit consideration and or mention. Yes there are better looking and more accurate simulations out there but not on a mobile platform.

  • @MagnumMike44
    @MagnumMike444 жыл бұрын

    X-Plane 11 is good, but I'm not sure if it deserves to be on the #1 spot, it has a lot of bugs, even with the latest 11.41 release. It also leaves a lot to be desired, seasonal textures that don't change with every season is my main peeve with it. Flying over Alaska in the fall or winter should show a lot of snow on the ground, but it looks like summer all year long. Yes, there are plugins or add-ons that allow you to create such textures but they have a tendency to slow down the frame rates. Heck, even the ancient FSX had seasonal textures that changed accordingly. X-Plane 11 also has a mind of its own sometimes with a lot of the bugs that Laminar just can't seem to fix with every patch. I won't list the bugs but up until now, XP 11 should still be classified as a Beta version. I also question some of the settings, like "Show parked aircraft", when that's checked, you'll start seeing aircraft at airports that don't fly there in real life. Example is the Alitalia regional aircraft that are parked at terminals, they won't fly more than 3000 miles and when you see the MD-8x at KLAX, it makes me wonder, does Alitalia have non-stop flights from any airport in Italy to Los Angeles? If they did, they would be on a wide body aircraft like the B777, B767, B747, or any of the Airbus wide body aircraft. Another big peeve is areas that are usually dense, like Los Angeles, with all the Sliders that pertain to displaying realistic textures are set to Max on my computer, like the Texture Quality and the Number of World Objects, I should get a lot of buildings/houses, etc rendered on the screen, but in a lot of cases, while flying below 3,000 AGL it looks like I'm flying over farming areas! I've flown above LA and San Diego in real life and they are dense, but XP 11 shows fields instead of a lot of buildings.
