I love how good you are at explaining the difficulty of each sound. I agree with how you explained liprolls was harder to find the sweet spot but once you “get it” so to speak its really easy to play with. I will say that chest bass for me is difficult to get the vocalized to come through clean on low frequencies. Still developing that one.

Oh, this is sooo interesting, especially for people, who just are getting into learning beatbox. Can really help out to find something to start from. Because as a person who got into beatbox not a lot time ago, I was soooo lost in all this sounds, trying to realize what I have to leart at first outside basics. So thanks a lot for this top, Dan. Also, it's interesting to know that you're not a big fan of inward bass. Pretty surprising.

I think it's really ironic that even though that the lip roll is one of the hardest sounds to learn, it is most people's first special beatbox sound. It was my very first sound I learned (if we ignore basics) It took me probably 2 months to learn it, but it took me at least 6 more months to make it sound good. And even then i still wasn't confident with it. I think I was a year into beatboxing when I actually mastered the sound. Love the video. I love videos in which you talk deeply about the art in general.

Please do more videos like this. I've started getting back into beatboxing now because my 3 year old is seriously into it. But I was beatboxing back in 2002 and there weren't crazy techniques like there are today and not much exposure at all, so we just followed whatever we could find. I'm sure these techniques and their names are popular in the community, but as somebody looking in, I just hear awesome sounds that I try to replicate, but no idea what they are. Thanks Dlow!

This was very interesting always up for learning and always easier to follow with someone with your experience. Just learning inward base atm not obsessively it has been along journey but have been enjoying it all the way so i am 1 away from the 5 so thank you for the confidence boost👍. I really liked the concept and the layout of this video as i said it was very interesting and would defo want more of this. Another thing i struggle with and can not find a solid video dedicated to help explain is tips on recording and what is the best way to make it sound flawless so if you or anyone knows a video that i can learn this i would be muchly appreciated and if not maybe there could be another video idea for yourself👍. Thank you for keeping beatboxing going when it was not as well known, stumbling into this amazing artform 2 years ago has been brilliant and has been one of the longest "Hobbies" i have actually stuck with and i am loving it so thank you personally as your sbx seeding round made me want to learn and i have never looked back. Liproll is such a fun technic to learn, theres so many variations, lip and tongue position to modify the sound, compared to throat bass and inward. but inward imo remains the most difficult to learn and practice. liproll is difficult because of the shape you have to give your mouth to begin with, it feels awkward at first too. but once you start feeling the ''roll'' its such a satisfaction because unlike bass like chest or lip bass and even throat ass wich you progressively feel and sound them, you dont feel like youre progressing liprolls because the proper sound of a liproll will either come out clearly or just sound like youre suking in air. so yeah, liproll is right where it sould be! great video again!

For me tongue bass is 100% the go-to! Super easy to pitch properly and combo with other sounds/basses (and I'm pretty meh at beatbox so take that as you will). Actually another sidenote is that you can kind of use tongue bass in the way people would use clickrolls to make a REALLY slow sounding bass and it sounds very good already :D

I have always been able to do a low outward vocal bass that idk if it'd be classified as subharmonic or a very low vocal fry because I can slow it down a lot. I'm not well versed in vocal terminology. but I've been able to do it as long as I can remember. I don't hear many beatboxers use it and if I ever get over my stage fright I'd like to post some videos of me using it. On a side note, I do have all 5 common basses down.

Fun video, and it sounds about right from what I know, which admittedly may not be a ton as a low-level beatboxer. Also, I'd agree on the approximate difficulties you gave. Lip bass is pretty easy and chest bass isn't too bad. Inward is tricky -- I have a sound, which took a while to get, but I'm not sure if it's actually a true inward bass. Throat bass doesn't seem super hard, but I think it does take some practice to get the basic technique locked in; it also seems to irritate my throat the most, so I can't do it a lot or very long. Getting the lip roll took me a lot of time, probably 8+ months of rather on-and-off practice; for fun, I even tried to get it on the other side of my mouth, and I feel like I'm close to getting that decent now, too (well, the non-inhaled version, at least; the inhaled version is still a bit messy on my second side). Oh, the video format seemed fine to me, and I kind of like seeing "top X" lists, so I'll give a thumbs up to more like this. :) Thanks for the video!

Lip Bass: I've have use multiple different varients of the Lip Bass, from normal to hollowed Chest Bass: I've rarely use it, I mostly uses it when practicing Bass Singer not Bass in Beatboxing Inward Bass: Mine is more of a inward Vocalfry, but I've used it for lower notes in things Throat bass: I've used it alot, the on bass that burns my throat. Vibration bass burns it most And Liproll: Never used it cause never been able to do it before Honorable mention: I think a less common one would be Sub harmonic and Growl note (more common in Bass singing) Very informational video Dlow. (this is some of my thing I've learned in Beatbox and Bass Singing) Keep up the good work Dlow 🙂

Lip roll was the first advanced sound I learned and possibly the only advanced bass technique I mastered. I can’t get the throat or inward bass to work, even though it has been years since I started to beatbox. I got the vibration bass down, can do it, I have nice, unique texture with it BUT I am not consistent. Sometimes it just stops coming out and I am not agile with it.
