    And it was stupid to never correct this error by bringing it back. Colt discontinued and went into bankruptcy less than 10 years later. Then they came out of bankruptcy and laid off workers and now they’re suspending the AR-15 civilian sales.

    Probably the one gun that I wish was still made is the Ruger .44 Magnum carbine (Deerslayer). It was basically a slightly scaled-up 10/22, chambered in 44 Magnum.

  • @Predalien195

    @Predalien195

    6 жыл бұрын

    +wicken Hale If I recall correctly Ruger did revive it briefly, but it didnt sell well. And with good reason... it was targeted mostly at hunters, and frankly it offered nothing over the standard and cheaper lever action rifles out there. There was talk that if their M77 in .357 had done well they were going to do that with .44 Magnum, but much like why the Deerslayer didnt do well, the M77 suffered the same problem. It WAS more accurate than some lever actions out there, but not enough to matter when hunting within the effective ranges of the caliber.

    Bill Ruger wouldn’t make more than a 4 Rd Magazine during the 1970’s when we owned a Ranch. Would have been a terrific Farmhouse Gun if it had a Ten Round Magazine. Maybe same reason the Mini 14 can’t be loaded with a Factory 10 Rd Magazine with the Bolt Closed? Fear of Anti Gun People.

    Christopher well, my dad had one of the 44 Magnum carbine when I was a kid and that thing was not only fun to shoot, but it was one hell of a little hog gun. He used it for many years hog hunting along with his 44 Magnum Super Blackhawk. Also, I'm going to have to disagree with you, as it offered quite a bit over a standard lever action, being a semi-automatic. Follow-up shots were quite a bit faster if I remember correctly. Clearly the 77/357 must have sold pretty well, because they make a 77/44 that seems to be pretty popular also.

  • @Predalien195

    @Predalien195

    6 жыл бұрын

    +wicken Hale Faster follow ups yes, but in hunting... how many follow ups do you need to be honest? And in self defense, while it's useful, the distances you'd likely be using a .44 Magnum carbine at, the lever action could still provide an adequately fast shot. Plus there's the versatility of using .44 Special in a lever action. I have shot the Ruger .44 carbines like that before and they are good guns. I'm not saying they arent, I just personally never saw them bringing more to the table over a cheaper and more available lever action at the time. I only regret not getting the Ruger because their current price, but I dont regret it ultimately for the initial reason I chose not to go with one. And the M77/357 has been discontinued, the .44 Magnum still seems to be in production however. Although the idea of a bolt action in a caliber like that to me just doesnt make much sense, but Ruger has always been a bit of an odd company at times. I have no doubt they have quality and are good guns, it's a shame companies like Marlin and such have fallen off under Freedom Group's leadership.

  • @theaveragewoodsman6002

    @theaveragewoodsman6002

    6 жыл бұрын

    Christopher rapid follow-up shots can be very important when doing a spot and stalk style hog hunt, as you're generally hunting in thick brush. I actually really like lever actions in general, especially ones chambered in Magnum pistol calibers. I actually use an 1892 in 44 Magnum with a 2-7x32 Burris scope setup scout style for hog hunting. I have to agree that I'm not exactly sold on the bolt action pistol caliber carbine concept, but they're super popular. I've met a couple people that have them and they swear that it's the bee's knees when it comes to deer hunting in the south.

    I carried a Python for 15 years until we switched to 9 mm. A lot of us kept carrying them until we were told to carry a Beretta or we wouldn't have a job. this was in about 1993, when the Beretta 92 was becoming the "in" gun. Nothing wrong with a 92, and we all got used ot them, until they pulled another switcheroo to a Smith 40 cal M&P just before I retired in 2005. They sold the Pythons to any deputy with 10 years of more of service for (get ready for the tears) $200. We were buying a new house, and I needed every dime for the down payment, so I had to pass. One of those today would buy a pretty decent used RV trailer. Rats!

    Ouch!!!!! in the late 90's I was in the market for my first revolver and I saw a used Python for about $1,100 and a SW 686 for around $700. I went the cheap route and bought the SW and saved the $400. I recently sold my SW for around $600 and that Python is probably a $3,000 gun today. Sucks.

Paid the same as you for the rifle and thought the exact same thing at the time. I am so glad I did, what a fun gun to shoot! I will never sell. Thankfully I also picked up multiple 880 round milsurp boxes of 2 spam cans, I'll not run out of ammo and it was back when 54R milsurp was dirt cheap. I haven't hand loaded for it yet due to the dent it puts in the case and the fact it slings it out 15' or better ;-) Hope you are enjoying yours.

    There are many firearms of the past that we could agree are greatly missed. But if I were to pick out one it would be the Remington Nylon 66. My father, brother and I would go shooting at least a couple of times a month in the 1960s. Back then even a new Nylon 66 wouldn't set you back much more than a family meal costs today. And used ones? I remember looking at them stuffed in a drum with all sorts of .22s. $15 used! And no NICS check either. The Nylon 66 was a surprising good shooter, light, accurate and with 14 rounds that was plenty of ammo to walk tin cans.

    I have a 6" early Python. It is indeed extremely well finished. It is an old design on the lockwork and actually not that complex.. with the new computer machining I think they could make another one that would take very little hand finishing. some of the smoothness is from the way the action works. The real problem would be the hours and hours of hand polishing on the actual exterior of the gun before blue/nickle.. I own a lot of revolvers and yeah.. you guys are right.. once you shoot a Python you get it.

    I don't think the Gunsmithing is really true. I know there's gunsmiths around where I live which Inn in Fort Worth Texas that can work on pythons cuz I've had it done. And they definitely are not specialist for only Colt Pythons I got a pretty beat up one at a gun show a while back and they reboot it for me took it completely apart and cleaned it and said that the metal inside was so worn that the hardened outer layer the steel was one true and that they can replace the parts for me I just haven't done that yet

    A lot of kids' first shotgun was a H&R Topper Jr. Mine was given to me at 11 years old and was a .410 gauge. I had been shooting my father's 12 gauge and my Papaw's 410 gauge before I got mine for Christmas. I liked the 410 because I could carry a full box of 25, 3inch shells without my pockets being too full and heavy. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many ducks that 410 took down. Both my younger brother and I could outshoot a lot of the adults with 12 gauge semi-autos like the Browning Auto 5, or the Remington 1100 that we went hunting with. I literally used to get home from school and put on my hunting boots and coat and grab the 410 and out the back door, I went. We lived on an old oxbow lake in the Mississippi delta and the ducks were plentiful so we got a lot of practice. And learning to shoot from my father who was one of the best shots that ever picked up a gun didn't hurt either. It still holds a prominent place in my gun cabinet.

    If you wish to have a (sport) gun in Poland several conditions must be fulfil. (1) You must be a member of a shooting society (2) You must pass an exam which check if one can safety shoot and maintain a sport gun (3) You must pass psychological and psychiatrist examination (4) Police must check if you are not a criminalist or do not take drugs or too much alcohol If all 4 above conditions are OK you get a permission to have a sport gun. Usually the permission allows to buy several guns (usually 5 to 7). The term “sport gun” have broad meaning and cover almost all guns which are not fully automatic. That means you can buy almost any semi-automatic pistol, rifle, carbine including semi-automatic AR or AK, like seim-automatic Beryl.

I'm British, and therefore have to use air guns to shoot, or else go through a total nightmare to get something more powerful and I bought a BSA scorpion T10 air rifle as my first target gun. It had a 3-9x32 BSA scope and as a combo was amazingly accurate, and very clear optics. I ended up selling it with another rifle though sadly, and got a bigger scope for the BSA rifle.

    Absolutely! I love my no4 mk1 sporter, .303 brit is a great cartridge. I'd love to see a modern stainless barrel, synthetic stock varient made as long as they keep the same buttery action.

    I like that revolver, but I like my police force Smith&Weson. 357 magnum better. It's pretty accurate to 25 yards, haven't tried 50

    I recently purchased a S&W Model 66 with the 2.75" barrel. So far I'm good out to 12 yards but I need a lot more practice with it before I'd take it as a carry gun.

    contreeman They make the K Frame Model 66 still. It's excellent. I don't think they make it in blue finish though. They make the heavier classic Model 27 but I wish they made the 28 still too.

    Agreed. I bought a CHP trade in Model 19 that seized completely twice with factory .357. It did, however lead me to buy a Ruger Security Six stainless 6" revolver which was one of the best firearms I've owned. Thanks for your comment. I feel validated.

    I've got an old H&R chambered in .357 Maximum (only one I've ever seen, super cool to show off) that was gifted to me by a friend before his death due to cancer... also got my Dad's old M77 in .220 Swift with a '60s era Bausch & Lomb target scoop that seems almost as long as the barrel (screw what everyone says about longevity, my Dad put thousands of rounds thru it and she'll still groups like a champ) & my Grandpa's .357 Colt Python in 6" stainless with Hogue grips that I LOVE... BUT I've also got a blued 4" Diamondback with rose grips that me and my Dad bought together ~5yr ago that's a PERFECT match to the beautiful 1911 Colt .45 I bought the other day that I'm super fond of. Needless to say, my whole family seems to have great taste in guns!!

    I own a Ruger M77 Sport 2 in .223 that I bought in the early 90's for hunting groundhogs. Just love it. Very accurate. I hand load for it. And have taken game at 500 yards with it. I was really surprised when you picked up yours in this video.

    Why doesn't Century Arms look into building an American version of the PSL or the Dragunov? The build their own AK and they are getting better at it. If the demand for a PSL is really there they would be foolish not to build them.

    AndreMT2720 The only issue is that even though Century’s AK copies are functional (although not nearly as durable) they aren’t true AK’s and that steers many away. They would likely do the same to the SVD or PSL.

    AndreMT2720 I’m an engineering student, and I’m actually considering a revival of the classic weapons. Research is needed to how these weapons were made to live up to the standard, but I don’t see why the big companies don’t do such remastering

    mvreventon there are a select few that have done what you are talking about. Like the folks who are reproducing the STG-44 and the para trooper FG-42. They are incredibly expensive but very well engineered works of art. I forget the name of the company that's making the reproductions but I'm pretty sure IV8888 has done some video on them. It can be done! LOL!

    I bought a 4" Python in the early 70's for $350, I have the barrel change by Colt to 6". I used to nail quarters a 7 yards. Greatest revolver I've owned. My son drools over my gun safe every time I open it.
