    Agreed on all points. This is the reason why I'm building up a new bike. My current bike, which is a complete, feels cheap and I have a gut feeling if I were to push it as hard as I used to, something will give in. Like Brant said, completes are great for new riders and young people but the bikes almost has a limit in longevity with the owner's progress. Even back in the late 90's I recall my friend and I, we both had entry level race bikes and the high tensile steel couldn't handle the abuse we were giving in the trails. I've built custom bikes after and its true, I never had to worry about the strength of parts, and some even transferring through multiple builds.

    idk dude there are some great budget options for hubs and rims if you know where to look. back when i had my first custom, the alex 7000 series feather lights were a good budget option and even came on a bunch of higher tier completes and prebuilt wheels. better chrome the odyssey rims. similar strength and cheaper. that said you kinda really gotta know what to look for or have a really legit shop though. some of the more budget oriented front and rear complete wheel sets that come with a sprocket to convert a bike to micro drive are also decent.

    Question about a couple parts on the bike that I have coming... it is a Fit Spreit (Motorcity Metal color). It lists as having a forged topload stem...aside from someday chamging the stem for different Geometry, what is your opinion of a forged vs cnc stem? Also, I'm thinking at some point, aside from parts that wear out, the main thing I will look into replacing is getting different tires and rims, any input on some of the better double wall rims, or things to look out for? Surely all double wall rims aren't created equal... thanks again for your awesome content!

    Alienation Rims is what I recommend, and as far as the stem goes, I’m sure forged would be fine short term. I would not ride one for an extended period of time though. Hope this helps and thank you for being here and for the kind words!

So my question is: if i already have a complete which does all the bad things you mention in the video. Like single wall rims, hi-ten everything, and so on. Is it really worth upgrading it at that point or is it better to get a more expensive complete that is full cromo, sealed hubs and double wall rims? Like i can basically no tricks other than bunnyhop on top of curbs. And by a better complete i was thinking of a tall order one, mostly since they seem like nice guys. Again awesome channel.

    Hey thank you!!! So that kind of comes down to your budget really. If it doesn't matter how much you spend, then you might as well build the exact bike you want. If you're on a budget, then buying another complete might be the way to go, or buying a used custom bike. That depends on if you want something that's new.

    Budget doesn't always mean bad!!! The rant rims and hubs are good! And the rant rim is like 25 bucks. I think the whole wheel is like 100 for back where maybe a bit more but definitely worth it! My friend has a rant back wheel and Its been through hundreds of flairs and Bails and its still good!

  • @Brant_Moore

    @Brant_Moore

    3 жыл бұрын

    Budget things can be great, but I wouldn’t recommend them over the higher tier parts because until you’ve been in bmx long enough, you just don’t know how hard you will be on parts. That guy who does all those flairs and has no problems is good enough to land in a way that won’t destroy a 25$ rim. But I’ve seen the best people completely destroy the best of the best rims on flairs. I personally am really rough on rims, but someone in the trails with no pegs might not be. So for a lot of people that budget option usually ends up meaning that you have to buy twice. So I skip all that and say buy the best stuff out the gate and just don’t worry about it and know that you’re going to be okay for a long time. I’m mainly writing this for future visitors to the comments to see the thought process behind buying quality parts the first time. It also takes a lot of knowledge to know which budget parts are okay and to a lot of people just starting theres not a lot differentiating things. I’ve seen so many parents buy kids bikes and watch them slowly have to replace things as they break or wear out. So I try to avoid that for people. It’s quite complex when you break it down but simple on the surface

I had a 2015 Sunday AM that I jumped 8 stairs with ,hopped off loading docks, etc. After 6 years I had to replace the bars cause they got rounded in the headset ( never snapped) and later that year replaced my rims due to the cassette having problems (they were single wall rims) and now it's custom cause I bought better stuff cause I had the money but all that to say completes aren't all that cheap. Don't think your cranks are ganna snap if you hop off a curb just cause you bought a complete. And if that does happen just start over cause chances are your frame is just as cheap
