In the spirit of inclusivity, I highly recommend an overlooked but very easy language for English speakers to learn: American/British Sign Language!

It's nice to know which languages are easiest to learn, but I wouldn't study them because they're easy. Easy and useful would be a good start. I might want to visit France - more than once - but not so much South Africa. Plus, there's a huge French literature to read. I'd start with the language I could use most often, and then go on from there. Spanish is similar to Italian, but it's spoken all over the Americas.

Is German not considered one of the “easier” languages to learn? Ich habe in der Schule ein bisschen Deutsch gelernt. It is very difficult but as an English speaker it seems much easier than a lot of lamgauges.

I think that your pick of those 5 languages as among the easiest for English speakers is a good one. Spanish and Swedish could also be added to the list. I do need to make one correction in relation to one of your English- Italian examples @1:38. For English learners of Italian or Italian learners of English do not confuse 'Eventually' with 'Eventualmente' - they are false friends (ie. words that look alike but have different meanings). Eventually = alla fine / Eventualmente = if necessary. eg. I will ask if I can borrow my brother's car tomorrow to go to the city. But if necessary (if he says no) [eventualmente] I will take the bus. You cannot use the word 'eventually' here as it would be incorrect. Eventualmente is how you would say 'if necessary/if need be' in many European languages (English is one of the exceptions).

@@alessiadonzello Eventually/eventualmente is one which frequently creates confusion. Another is actually/attualmente where the word means one thing in English and something different in most European languages. I am from Australia, so I'm a native English speaker. I am starting to study Italian and finding it difficult but still very enjoyable. I like phonetic languages, so I'm very glad I never had to learn English as a second language.
