Great tips. When I take dramatic photos, I tend to add a bit of haze. Subtle but effective

He is awesome
I like both the backgrounds to be honest 😅 they both go well with the portrait.
Great video! What is the name of the light stand-mounted fan you used in the video? Thanks!

My pleasure! You can get them from B&H here bhpho.to/36iLaP8
I denounce a cheat, the photo with a textured background has so much better shadow that the background does not enter in consideration :D. Otherwise I always bend down to take a portrait, I'm 6.4 feet tall and for the catch light we can play to give it a particular shape, I sometimes cut in paper to make a cover on one of my modelers, for example stars.
I havent worked with him yet, but he has gotten pretty popular around here in the Central Florida area. Hes got character. Dope.
That silver plaque!

Textured works best, Optyx looks good but can’t get a free trial though, which would be good. Awesome video though thanks 🙏

I have to film it still. It takes a long time to film and there's costs for editing and such, so the 1k likes on the video let's me know if it'll be worth putting in the effort over other ideas I have in the schedule. 😁👍
Lets get those 1,000 likes people!

Smash the likes! I really want to get this retouching video out 🙌
Holy shit, I've actually drawn a portrait of this guy and had no idea where the refrence came from. I felt so bad not being able to credit the original photographer thats what got me started on learning to take my own refrence portrait photos. Kinda wild to find the original photographer like this. BTW my wife calls him tropical santa.

What if your model can't act or do the expressions you want?

It's all about getting them to try. If the look they are giving you doesn't work, keep trying other characters and ideas until you land on one that works. 📸

Another tip: finding an actor as model.

Definitely doesn't hurt!
I know it's the photographers job to put the model in the mood to an extent but my models so far have been absolutely dorky. No talent at all. LoL. I tried EVERYTHING. Do not believe that "it's all about the photographer" and do not work with amateurs, if "dramatic" is what you're aiming for. Or go out and try to find dramatic portraits in real life situations.
I think the goofy yellow Hawaiian shirt doesn't work with a dramatic edgy photo for this shoot. Wardrobe is an important part of the story too.
