ABOUT ME:
Thanks for visiting my channel, I hope you enjoyed the video! I founded Caterpillar Cross Stitch in 2015 when I tried desperately for months to find a modern baby sampler my mum could stitch for new baby Felicity that would fit in with her simple, contemporary nursery. I love cross stitch, running, baking fruit cakes, drinking gin, eating salted caramel ice cream and most crafts!
See you soon and happy stitching! Sally x

Well done. Clear and concise information. Would you consider doing a tutorial using a pattern to demonstrate how to read a pattern with half and quarter stitches to understand which direction the stitch should go. TIA

There is an improved method if you're going to knot the end of your thread. Instead of going in from the back of the canvas, go in from the front a few square down the line where the top of the cross stitch should be. Then start stitching as normal. Because you place the knotted thread at the top and started stitching from the bottom, the thread is running diagonally across the intended line. As you create stitches the thread will become covered and secured in a reverse fashion of typically securing thread under finished stitches. Once you reach the knotted end, or have finished the line, you can cut the thread below the knot with tweezers and a stitch ripper, or a pair of scissors. The result is a smooth back with no tufts of thread and very secure work. I find this method best for a single cross stitch that will be later surrounded by more stitches

Theres tons of blanket stitch types snd u can use it decoratively :D after i did a blanket stitch skipping every other stitch and then doing the opposite one all the way sround it stopped my aida cloth fraying Was super helpful and i wish i did since the beginning but im new and this is my first cross stitch. Im good at full stitches but now im here to learn others and the pattern for it

There's no right or wrong way! As long as your stitches go the same way throughout the piece, that's the important part 😄

Curious at how you are placing your stitches - Is there a name for this? I am familiar with the Danish and English methods (as we call them here in the US) but stitches are left to right, with bottom thread running bottom left to top right, crossed with the top thread going from bottom right to top left. Victorian method same crossing direction except worked right to left on the fabric. I have never seen this method .... Just curious!!

I do my full cross stitches up from the bottom left hole diagonal to go down at the upper right hole and then up at the bottom right diagonal to down at the upper left hole. Is that an okay way to do my cross stitch?

That's sounds like the USA way, although in other comments it looks like Americans do it both ways ultimately. I think both are good as long as you are consistent.

run your needle under a few stitches to secure it then cut it off. Use the loop start method if you're only placing a few stitches of a colour : )

I stitch in this same direction so that the top thread slants towards the right, the same slant as my handwriting. I love the cross stitch sampler videos from the fabric designer Lori Holt who stitches in this same direction. It's a matter of personal preference, not a regional thing . I was born and have lived in the southern US all my life.
