    Honestly, a lot of pre-release units basically boil down to "we didnt want to throw it away, so now its in Co-op".

    Funny how all the units/abilities that didn't make to the ladder are available in Co-Op. Maybe that's why Co-Op is the most popular mode of play.

    I don't know if it ever made it into the game, but I remember there was a trailer for what I think was the corruptor rework in lotv, where corruptor could use gastric spray on units too

    Yeh, in the early days of LotV, corrupters could use this ability on units too! There are quite a lot of professional matches with this patch. If you search a bit, you'll find em.

    used to be crazy as a corruptor could 1v1 vs a thor (cant remember if it won or just got really close but ether way!) which is just insane

    In the WoL beta, ultras had a battering ram attack vs structures. It did like 70 damage, and had an animation where ultras actually used their huge head to hit stiff.

    Huh.. sounds like in Coop, Dead of Night mission, the Stank unit that's a heroic Ultralisk. It's head butt attack does bonus damage to structures, and only has a cool down of 5 seconds! B/c of that, you'll want to throw units at it (as counterintuitive as it sounds)

    I remember the shrieker, a cheap structure, detector that alerted you when enemies came in its huge range. Now the terrans sorta have it :D

    I'm pretty sure the design of the high queen was later adapted into the Mothership Core (teleport to bases and photon overcharge structures).

    Maybe ability wise but the model wise the high queen was probably reused for the Broodmothers concept in Heart of the Swarm's storyline, as the Broodmother's A LOT bigger than the average queen.

    Man this is the one thing command and conquer did better, holding back for balance purposes is all good but they could’ve still added it to the basic the melee pallet

    I remember the predator being a bad Terran unit because it maximized damage when surrounded, but was outpaced when surrounded in fps and poor vs armor. But what if there was a way to rework it? Here’s an idea: what if instead the predator had a 10 second defense matrix ability that’s weaker than battlecruiser, and instead of doing aoe, it inflicted a shredded rebuff that acted similar to acid spores in brood war, reducing target armor by one point each hit. That way, it could counter the armor of roaches which Terran otherwise have tough time with. Then again, I’m pretty sure the marauder already handles that role, so probably would make it redundant.

    Missed the corruptor's previous ability that made enemy targets take more damage. In the campaign zerg enemies spam that thing

    I wish the old corruptor made it at least to the campaign. When I first saw it, I thought it was (at least thematically) the most interesting new unit they demoed, and I remember being disappointed when I bought the retail game and the corruptor couldn't do anything like that.

    Protoss air (not usually Terran) has needed to have a knockback mechanic where you can knockback a group of corruptours who don't die, but take out a whole nexus in fewer than 30 or even 20 seconds.

    It seems like in the early design phase, they wanted each faction to have their own unique super unit. The Mothership, evolved Queen, and perhaps the Odin?

    that Nydus Destroyer sounds so overpowered, imagine being able to cannon rush in your opponent main while you keep their army busy with your own in the map

    I'm pretty sure that was only a concept design. I have the collector edition of WoL with an book of illustrations of units where there's a tentacled ultra (it looks incredibly cool), so maybe that's where you remember it from?

    Also considering removed units, I can see one big tendency here: despite Zergs being a lot about infestation and stuff like that, we don't really have it in versus game mode. And this part is very sad.

    ultras would probably be too strong. charge is a extremely powerful ability for a melee unit to have. melee units are over stated for the cost, they have to be to make up for the fact they will get kited and take damage getting into combat. Charge negates a large amount of this downside allowing them to just be great. For all players i use to coach up to upper diamond i'd recommend getting ultra hydra (with casters if they could) as the ultimate endgame zerg army, as it requires little control and if the other guy doesnt micro ultras will clevage through! plus since it is such a simple army it's really great for people to practice multitasking and split attacking. This style falls off (at least before this patch, stopped playing the game awhile ago so dont know how recent changes affect this) at start of masters and is near unusable by low gm as it is an expensive/slow/kind of awkward army to get to (due to split in upgrades and not lining up on the tech path). Please vs well controled spell casters and good sim city the style just jumps off a cliff in usefulness

    Or... come here... air units? Ultras are a 300/200 6 supply melee unit. The mere existence of air units have the potential to shut down a minimum of 6 supply worth of army (altho realistically more like 30-60 supply), as well as like 10-20 seconds of max economy production PER ULTRALISK. It's like they keep trying to balance T3 units as if they're supposed to be core army units. They're not. T3 units are supposed to hardcounter shit, and be hardcountered by shit. They are the endgame. They are "Im done with this, this is my play" and then the opponent counters you, and you counter the opponent, and so on. But because ultra just HAS to be a "normal unit", it actually becomes completely useless. Like most T3 units in this game. Just think about how long it actually took them to make BCs into what they currently are, an extremely powerful utility unit. And that was after a decade of them REALLY trying to make the BC a normal core unit, until someone in balancing finally said enough was enough.

    I don't know many air units that shut down ultras... void rays and tempests, I guess? Ultras don't exist in a vacuum. If you're charging into a cluster of liberators or carriers, you better have something that shoots up to support your ultras!

    Who remembers when Ultras did splash around the unit they were attacking? You could attack a planetary and all of the SCVs repairing would die in a couple of swipes, it was glorious!

    Zerg got nerfed so hard over development. The spawn larvae mechanic is cringe,- swarm hosts got nerfed into oblivion, ultralisks can't walk over units like the collosi, roaches can't regen unless burrowed which needs research and takes forever

    and in multyplayer we can only use three larva at a time unless we make more hatcherys and even then we cant select all larva at once.

    @@griffinsanders7933 you can select all larva at once? put hatches in a control group, then you can select all larva, unless your taking above larva left over after a hatch is killed... which isnt super common and most of the time you dont really wnat to be making stuff from that base at that time as it'll probably die as soon as it finishes being made :D Spawn larva is painful, but zerg needed more larva and devs decided just making larva spawn faster was a bad idea. swarmhosts are still useful and HOTS swarmhosts were the 2nd worst thing to ever exist in sc2 (after that stupid voidray meta earlier in the year). Ultras not being more like collosi does confuse me. Agreed burrow takes soooo long for something which is already mostly used in fun niche ways :( if made burrow take 20 seconds to upgrade wouldnt affect 99% of games but would allow people to do soooo much more fun stuff

    @@griffinsanders7933 select the things you want (by shift left clicking) then control +a number I believe is the default way of doing it, can change what’s keys do it in the options.
