Carson City is 35 minutes from Reno and a much better retirement place. Smaller (58000) and the State Capital. The Legislature only meets every two years. Houses are cheaper than Reno and so is gasoline because we don't have the extra tax that Reno has...and you don't need to smog your vehicles in Carson City. Plus we are half and hour closer to Lake Tahoe.

This video mentions low sales tax in Reno. Nevada state sales tax starts at over 6%. Counties and cities can each add additional sales tax. Reno has a total sales tax rate of roughly 8-1/2%. The neighboring city of Sparks is around 8-1/4%. Sales tax in Fernley is 7.1% Average rent in Reno is over $1,600 per month, including both houses in crowded subdivisions and small apartments in large complexes. The video also mentioned warm weather. Today, December 29, 2022, Reno has had several inches of snow as well as high wind warnings through tomorrow night. Fernley and Elko can have that same type of weather during the winter, including occasional temps below zero. Las Vegas and Henderson routinely have temps above 100 Fahrenheit in the summer. Temps in the teens and twenties is not warm, it's cold. Temps above 100 is not warm, it's hot. I hope everyone does a lot of research on any location prior to making a move, especially during retirement.

Exactly those low numbers are not true high car insurance rates beating the hole nation especially in Las Vegas Henderson is the same city paradise exareta. Heavy traffic high prices at any grocery store. High energy bills that make it California like prices. So you are not saving shit. The high cost of living has turned Nevada into a Lego land small apartment building that are outrageously overpriced 1600 one bedroom. But worst is the skyrocketing crime murder robbery and heavy traffic with people who love to drink and drive. It’s a desert and even with all this rain they will eventually hit difficult times if they run out of drinking water. It’s not affordable to move there like the good o’l days the cheap is long gone…..

Reno Nevada used to have very cheap rent. Now the rent and house prices are going through the roof. Still cheaper than California though and a lot of people here come from California. They NEVER tell people how ❄️ cold Reno gets. It's like 26 degrees right now and that's pretty normal. At least we don't get ❄️ snow like Tahoe.

In my opinion what is missing is the average price of homes and wages in these cities compared to the rest of the state and nation. I believe that a sample of taxes should also be included. With this information a person could start researching to determine whether or not moving to the Silver State would be beneficial.

Moved to Thailand. 1 bedroom apartment with kitchen, pool, gym, steam room and security $300/month. Electric $90/month. Water $7/month. Health insurance $180/month. Dozen eggs $1.50. Meals start at $1.50. Cellular unlimited data $7/month. If you have a drinking problem don’t come to Thailand, I’m surrounded by 200plus bars in this city with pretty girls calling for us to stop and drink… and many times they offer more than just drinks😳.
