Number 5 and number 1 are very good live-in boats. Will save you a lot on rent, if you live in bigger cities in North America.

We need to talk about the definition of the term "yacht". None of these mentioned, should be called yacht.

The second to last is a stretch. Otherwise, the term yacht is fine. It's a common misconception that the term "yacht' means some sort of super mega-boat like a personal cruise ship. That's incorrect. A "yacht" by definition is a watercraft vessel used for racing, cruising, and/or pleasure. Generally, the term is used for boats with a cabin that allows you to live on the boat for an extended period of time - basically overnight through a few days+ (even as a house forever). So the term is actually being used correctly, it's just that people have grown accustomed to it being used for boats worth a good $300,000+++.

The cost of yachts are outrageous, I would have gotten one for my family. Instead I’ll be chartering on our next vacation.

Love the Mastercraft. I'm sure they all got their repair costs and etc. It comes with aging of the boat. No matter the size and make.

So will a 250,000 dollar house. Everything needs maintenance, upgrades and repairs. I just spent 13k getting a roof put on my house. And my house isnt even particularly big nor does it have a lot of complicated angles to complicate the job. Took them less than 15 hours, including stripping off the old roofing and making a couple small repairs to the plywood decking. I'd rather have the boat!

@@edswope28 no you definitely do not want a boat. I work on them for a living. 13k is pocket change compared to boat repairs. The bigger it gets, the more it cost. 20k+ for engine overhaul. Both engines have to be rebuilt at the same time. 40k+ for both engines. Hoses replacement every couple of years - $15k normal 5 yearly expenses. Fuel is about $10 a gallon at shore pumps. Now add that to 2000 gallons. Constantly replacing electronics. Salt water that is rotting the boat everyday. AC that never shuts off and needs to be cleaned weekly. Hull cleaning weekly. Everything needs to be stainless or brass. Pumping out septic weekly. Worker labor is $100.00hr. You also have to obey at their schedule. You also have to buy special appliances to work on a boat and fit. I work on them and know well that they will make you really poor within a year. The only yacht that will give you a deal is a sailboat. Those will make you poor also. Get a small boat that you can take out of the water.

​@@SoundsofthewoodThis is why they always say "Don't get a boat. Get a friend that has a boat" haha. Same with a pool. I still would love to get a sailboat. I might someday. But it'll be a $6500 sailboat with $25000+ to spare for maintenance. You also didn't mention mooring costs. Some states are $20 per ft. A 30ft boat could cost $7500 a year just to sit there lol. And if you get a boat that is out of the water, that means you have to launch it every time you use it. And if it's a sailboat, that means raising and lowering the mast every time. That's about 45 minutes at the start AND end of the trip. Which means if you have 6 hours to sail on a Sunday, you really have 4.5 because you have to deal with the mast. And that's a massive turn off and a fast way to get so annoyed that your boat just sits in your yard. But if you leave it in the water, you have to deal with more maintenance. Rigging will rust. The bottom paint will need more sanding and such every year. As they also say, a boat is a hole in the water that you dump your bank account into.

@@Oozywolf well when I wrote this it was pretty cheap to moor the boat. Now it cost more then renting an apartment in some marina's. This year has been pretty tough in the boating world. I live in Florida and that last hurricane really destroyed alot of what we considered normal here. Most places don't even allow livaboard anymore. I will eat up what I said about getting a small boat though. I got one and everything has to be replaced on it.

@@Soundsofthewood Whew I can't imagine those FL prices. With Covid flipping the economy upside down and hurricanes like you said, it must be extremely difficult. Then you add in the gas and such too. I was thinking about a 22 Catalina and even then I heard rigging alone can run about $8k+ every decade or so. Might as well just keep buying new boats at that price! It's one expensive hobby. Expensive but rewarding. Most of our planet is water, and there's an unmistakable romance found in traveling by water. It's what allowed us to explore our world. There's nothing else like it. "Likely" are 33+ ft. The definition of a yacht does not have a set length requirement. The term refers to a boat you can spend large amounts of time in. And that comes down to personal preference. So a 22ft boat could pass a yacht for some. It's just that generally for extended periods of time, most people would likely want at least the space of a. 33ft boat. But that's not a requirement to be considered a yacht.

None of these are considered yachts.
