People don't need a 2000 dollars gun. They need 1500 in gun training and a 500 gun.

Too true +edu88 many people fall into that "you get what you pay for." Most times that is true but sometimes, most in firearms, that's not true.

Nobody needs a lot of things, nothing wrong with spending a good amount of money on a gun. I've spent 2000 plus on a few, and their worth the money I paid compared to a glock that took$50 to make in a production line.

Bizarro world here in Indiana. I can get an XDS right now for $390. Where as an LCR in 38spl is going for $430-450. I paid $480 for my XDS a couple years back, but it came with the suitcase of accessories, and had the free magazines offer.

+Not Telling Maybe yours, but some of the glocks I bought brand new had issues out of the box: 2 G19's, a G30, a G23 and G20. I did have a G19C, G26, G29 and G42 that worked fine. But very frustrating to experience failures with those others while the gun universe constantly sings glock's praises. As far as 1911's I had a Taurus 1911 that ran flawlessly.

Love me my SR9c. 10+1 rounds in a nice compact package, and a 17 round spare mag for the fantasy zombie situations. I never have trouble concealing it despite it being a bit larger than the Shield/PPS/G43/LC9s crowd. It's certainly smaller than a G19. I suppose a G26 would more or less cover the same ground in a slightly smaller and more expensive package.

Rugers also are built like tanks and will outlast me. Interesting choices as usual. I seem to change around from a semiautomatic to a revolver with the weather a lot. Urban areas carry in summer is so different for me when I am on the horse stable area with coyotes howling in the distance at night and getting my horse upset. There is something about pitch dark and having my horses ear suddenly point and all her attention goes in an area I cannot see that makes a good revolver with good sights comforting. I will not let my horse get hurt without a fight. Lately I find myself carrying a Charter Arms Pitbull in Tiger Stripes in 44 special with hollow points or a Mare's Leg in 44 magnum with a laser on it. I always carry three sources of light when the moon is not out. With the local storms and the wind, I sometimes carry for close work a Bond derringer in 410 as backup to the Mare's Leg. As you can guess I tend to do western carry at the Stable. One of my favorites even at the stable in warm weather is a Ruger LCP with a laser.

A lot of people argue that the 9mm has better Ballistics than the .38 special cartridge. But if you are going to be shooting them out of a Revolver than I would think choosing the .38 Special would be a better choice because you don't have to worry about having and using "Moon Clips". Plus if the Gun is sturdy enough you can always use "Plus-P" Cartridges with the .38 special to increase performance to near .357 Magnum Specs.

As your picture of the Ruger LCR shows one is in .327 federal magnum. That is the one I want because the .327 is a very powerful caliber and can also shoot .32 smith and wesson long ammo and h&r .32 magnum. The problem I have found so far though is the LCRs in every caliber except .327 is around $400 . When you find one in .327 though it is priced around $500. To me it's not worth $100 more for the same gun only in a different claiber.

+billy kidd the ammo is not super available, even though it can chamber all three of those rounds, very few places stock any of them and when they do they are not cheap. I love the idea but as an owner of a .32 h&r mag revolver that shit isn't easy to find, and when you do expect to pay 60 cents to a dollar a round.

From what I've heard they have outstanding customer service and a great warranty. I'm not saying that it's a high end pistol by any means. But for under $300 it's leaps and bounds better than any of its competitors like Kel Tec or Diamondback. Again it's not my every day carry. I bought it to leave in my car either in the glovebox or in my get home bag, and wouldn't be all that upset if it got stolen. I was just really impressed for the $.

For the first time on KZread for the top five carry guns under $400. The Ruger Company gets its do! I own the Lc9s 9mm pro. It is every thing I have looked for in a.380 sized weapon. But in 9 mm. If I see or hear about Glocks, Shields one more time. I am going to throw up. One gun that never gets even on the under $ 600 list. Is the Sig 239 in .357 Sig. It's in the 225 or 226 size range. If you shoot a .357 even in The Glocks it's a great round. A flat powerful shooting round. The draw back is the ammo is hard to find and costs alot more than the more powerful 9 mm rounds. The SR9C is as good as the XDS sub compact models. The Sig has always been a high dollar weapon. But they are tanks and can handle any ammo. Just to heavy to carry every day. Shawn

Interesting list. The SR9c was my first firearm (and it looks a lot better with a Crimson Trace laser, btw), and the LCRx in .38 special my first and (so far) only revolver. I'm not a Ruger nut, either, but it just happened that way. I got both new (at different times; one about three years ago and the other, one year ago), and the SR9c was around 380, and the LCRx was 385.

Ruger LC9s all the way! I have an XDS and I was going to buy Shield because it's lighter, but LC9S beats all other striker fired guns regardless of the price. My carry gun of choice - small, elegant (next to it XDS, Shield, Glock 43, and Walther PPS look like bricks), very light, very accurate and (or because) it has a great trigger. The first gun ever I can shoot a quarter at 7 yards without feeling like I won the lottery. If you think it's snappy, shoot 10 shotgun shells. Feels like a mosquito after that.

I found a Ruger LCR used (lightly)for under $400, but it had the XS tritium sight installed, plus Crimson Trace laser grips, well-almost $700 if you bought those upgrades on your own. It's a great gun for CONCEALED carry, weighs almost nothing, and the .38+P is more than adequate. The problem? It hurts like hell to shoot, which is why the first owner dumped it. It is so light that the standard non-plus P .38's are worse than .357 mag loads in a Ruger SP-101. But, for a gun that will probably be carried all it's life and only used occasionally at the range, it's perfect.

Thank you for your honest response. I read alot of opinions on here but people just want to think their weapon choice is the best. I waited a long time for some gun company to get The 380 sized 9mm right. I have owned a Sig 239 9 mm, XDS compact 9 9mm and a 642 38 plus P hammer less revolver. But the Lc9s 9mm pro is the best gun and trigger by far. I don't buy a lot of guns. I study every thing I can find to read long before I put my hard earned money down for CCW carry gun. Don't want a SAFETY on my CCW. So the Lc9s 9mm pro is my choice. Put a Houge grip on mine then bought the 9 rd mag. My hand is bigger than most people's. I am 6' 245. The Pro is easy to carry. I practice a lot so the 7 and 9 rounders are just enough for CCW . Shawn

+Douglas Fulmer .40 are hot rounds to be firing out of a compact, I'd say that .45 is about the biggest you'd want to go.

Douglas Fulmer Oh yeah I'm not buying one in 40sw that's for sure. I was just saying that's the price on them, at my local Gunshop. Most of them are used. Hell I saw brand new one In 40sw from performance center. It had those night sights I think, not sure know they are not original and the ported slide. That one was $429.99. It doesn't look like they are selling. If price goes just a little bit lower on the performance version Id might just for the hell of it. That Unfortunately I can't find a 9mm version there. And when they are in stock ,they are kinda overpriced.

Many of the Charter Arms revolvers can be had for less than 400 smackers, and they seem to be fairly reliable (once you send it back so they can fix what's wrong with it) and, you can find Shields for juuuuust a tick over $400 ($414 down at my LGS)

I totally agree about the Walther. It looks like an amazing weapon, but it felt awful in my hand. You should check out the Kahr CM line. Inexpensive and great carry guns. Fit my hand perfectly.

EDC=LC9S-PRO with a 9 round mag and TFX's for low light and no light. I have a LCRx, but with the finger extention on the 7 round mag and the built-in one on the 9 that makes the LC9S-PRO #1 and the LCRx my off body back-up.

I have never really thought of revolvers as carry guns but you do have a point when you think about it they are ok.
