    @@dr_fleischmann8133well when paladin is out, monks aren't really doing much anymore. It is the matter of 15 something monks trying to convert 40 something paladins. Unless you have AI Micro, those monks would probably just get 3 or so conversion before getting slaughtered. Monks are still threatening during late game not for the ability to convert your cavalries, but for their abilities to convert your precious siege and turn them against you. Therefore monks with no blockprinting and redemption is basically useless late game.

    hey hera, newspaper here but please tell me what do you think about this and maybe you can make a video taking all things into account. would be nice to get a pro opinoin and insight. so, your video is top 5 paladin civs, but no matter how i quantify it and calculate it i can't see weak paladins "even if discounted and all of that" beating good cavaliers. not even the pierce armor can offset the difference sometimes. so i took my favorite cavalier civ "mallians" and the best paladin civ "franks" and took a simple calculation of the gold difference to add cavaliers for mallians. so things to take into account are 1- mallians pay for farimbha, but don't pay for blast furnace which should be substracted from farimbha 2- mallians get 10% extra gold 3- franks don't pay for bloodlines. but ofc they pay for paladin upgrade. 4- cavalier higher attack speed should be considered in the final results. those are the 3 key factors, i did not take "all the gold spent throughout the game" into account , which would offset the scale in favor of mallians EVEN more. "lets see the crucial upgrades for both civs are gonna cost you a few thousends for example, mallians will still have 10% bonus gold on top of that" so, my point is, i took the best possible scenario for franks and even in the best possible scenario for franks , every 61 frank paladins will be faced with same number of mallian cavaliers + 12-14 so in other words 61 frank paladins, will be faced with about 73-74 mallian cavalier. ofc as i mentioned above mallians will have even more gold difference than this simple calculation but i am not taking that into account so this is tipped towards franks favor. a simple face off between 61 frank paladins and 74 mallian cavliers, mallian cavliers EASILY win. in most scenarios i had 24-30 cavaliers alive with about 60-80% total health remaining. ofc franks especially as well as persians are gonna be better VS archers probably but i doubt it's gonna be a huge difference for franks. that means, if even the best 2 paladins are so inferior in melee combat against mallians. it makes me think that burgundian paladins "for example" don't even stand a chance , and i did test that and they actually don't although they performed better than franks since they had better numbers. ofc since burgundians get that discount, i reduced the number of mallian cavaliers by 6-8 but they would still be 60 burgundians vs 66-68 mallians. anyway i would say burgundian cavaliers being higher in number also makes them very strong vs pierce so there is that. i did try berbers and ofc they performed even better and so will poles "although poles pierce armor weakness does change the functionality of cavaliers completey"

    Chivalry might be overrated. For the research time on Paladin, if we assume you have the res to click both techs at once (assuming Conscription is already in), it saves just over 27 seconds. If you can't afford that and only tech Paladin after Chivalry comes in, it only saves 6.5 seconds, so realistically you should expect to save anywhere between those numbers. Enough to be important if your opponent is clicking Paladin at the same time or if it gets you there before they finish prepping Halbs, but it's a smaller window than you might expect from +40% speed, especially given the fairly high cost. Paladin in 1v1s tends to be a very timing-dependent play due to the limited windows before Halbs become a problem and gold runs dry, so the faster research is probably much more valuable in your hands than mine. For cav production, let's assume you have 10 stables - fairly reasonable number for late game production. Chivalry gives an equivalent increase in production speed to adding 4 stables. You can add four stables in less time than the tech takes to research for 700 wood, whereas Chivalry costs 600 wood and 500 gold. If getting the tech in early imp, you'll probably have fewer than ten stables, and just adding more stables instead is just unambiguously cheaper at 9 or fewer. The value of Chivalry does rise with more stables, but by the time you're producing from more than that gold is probably becoming a sparse resource whereas wood is plentiful. Its value also goes up when you're too cramped for space to comfortably add more stables. I'm not saying it isn't worth or that it's a bad tech, but I think it merits situational consideration rather than being something you always want when using lots of cav in your late-game Frank composition. What do you think?

  • @teddyhaines6613

    @teddyhaines6613

    6 күн бұрын

    It's less about it being overrated and more that moving it from castle age to Imp nerfed it into the ground. Used to be you could get it on the way to Imp (cheaper than it is now too) and then use the faster stable work time to click cavalier and then paladin and have them come in at Burgundians-esque speed.

  • @dannyv.8545

    Agreed. Franks have good eco (those annoying berries disappear faster) and free mill upgrades. Cheaper castle. That makes Franks good. Not Chivalry (in congested maps maybe helpful) Franks weakness is in Archer range (hurts their HC). Also Throwing Axemen and HC are countered by same unit comp (Archer/Skirm)

    Teuton conversion resistance IS huge, but moreso in Castle Age and early Imp before army masses get large. Unless you're an AI it becomes infeasable to micro monks (even when you mass the monks) against a large mass of units, and Paladin tends to come in later in Imp when you'll expect to be fielding masses of 15-40 Paladins.

Cheaper farms doesn't make up for these issues Burgundians have that Cavilier one age earlier and also the mining upgrade (also at discount), UT which gives them free gold while collecting food. 50% Stable unit discount. Imagine how viable Burgundian Paladins are . Great gunpowder units and good units in general. Much better civ that Teutons even thou their Paladins aren't that strong
