    The problem with the Exo Toa, is that Toa sets became pretty big, and building a mech for them would be very costly, for Lego, and the consumer. I know they made vehicles, but those are probably easier to design than armored suits.

    The Bohrok really are awesome. I got into Bionicle through g2, so way after g1 ended. And I didn't really discover about the existence of g1 or all of its depth until about... 2, 3 years ago or so? But I saw the Bohrok, and knew I wanted them. I couldn't buy them myself as I didn't have the money or a job, so I requested them for Christmas and helped my mom find a listing of all 6 on ebay that was just the Bohrok. They don't have the rubber bands, I bought them some Krana later at the Atlanta brick store (such a worthwhile trip), and the white one has the wrong colored eyes, but I don't care, I love them! They're my first sets from g1, and really are such a good set, even if I only really display them.

    Seeing my picture of the blue bohrok queen on my childhood bedroom desk at 10:03 was quite surreal, I'm glad you liked it enough to include it! I took it about 7 years ago when I was testing my first DSLR camera, such a blast from the past!

    I was a wee baby when the bohrok came out, so when I got old enough to discover Bionicle, older Bionicles became the rarest and most desirable of all, the kind of thing you can only find by getting very lucky because nobody's parent was going to hunt down weird old toys on ebay for you. My best friend however was very lucky. His grandparents found a huge box of early 2000s Bionicle at a yard sale, and that was a treasure trove to us. We pieced together five Bohrok from that box one day, and two of them were Lehvak, but one of those Lehvaks having wrong colored eyes and one white torso piece as the other green one was missing. I asked him if I could keep the slightly weird Lehvak duplicate and he said yes. I still have it to this day, never took it apart, it's my favorite Bionicle and one of my favorite childhood LEGO memories in general. I did replace the eyes with the right color, but I'll never replace the white torso piece because that's what makes mine special to me :)

    Any Bohrok is a good choice. The Bohrok were the perfect toy. Small, affordable, functional (and story significant) packaging, transforming feature, and a cool gear function. This all on top of being a building set that you can disassemble to make new things. Perfection.

    That childhood story of you winning a Lewa Nuva is so wholesome. Glad that you won your favourite Toa Nuva. I was born a year later in 2003 and I wished that I was into Bionicle when I was younger. I only got into it after it had ended and was replaced by Hero Factory. How I wished time travel was real 😂

    I predicted that you'd pick Cahdok and Gahdok as your number 1 considering what you chose for 5-2 and the honorable mentions. I quite like the idea of Pohatu Nuva being portrayed as a grandpa.

    The Bohrok are the best. 2018 I got almost all Krana versions except the two metallic XA and the crome variants and their prototypes. You can imagine I was suprised, when learning, that there was a second variant to the Galok-Va Krana exclusive to the mentioned polybags.

    I honestly like the idea of a sort of wise elderly figure version of Pohatu. I can honestly see him telling matoran and other younger toa various tales of his youth. The his arrival to the island of mata nui,the bohrok swarms,his adventures in karda nui… Jallar: What about that time you and the other toa nuva got pummeled by the piraka and then we had to- Pohatu: Jallar…We promised never to speak about that…

    Hey Mr. Ben . I would want to get Bohrok where I could make the combiner mocs that look like one burly Bohrok ,only get 3 of the same color for each one .I just have a blue one made from 3 blues and a white one made from 3 whites .Now I need 3 reds ,3 browns ,3 greens and 3 blacks ,then I can have 1 buff Bohrok in all 6 colors .18 Bohrok just to make 6 in the end .Old people think of crazy stuff . Take care .

    Now that I think about it, I'm surprised there weren't more sets that were meant to combine or add an exo suit to a toa or something like a suit or mech. I never got to experience the gen 2 stuff but using the little guys to add on to the toa is such a great idea. I remember i used to add matoran pieces to toa or vice versa to power them up in the "story"

    Well, like I said on 2001 sets, I am not a fan of sets with functions and gimmicks. I prefer mobility like in sets of 2006. But if I would choose sets from 2002... Borox cause Nuparu, Toa Gali, Toa Tahu, Toa Lewa and... I don't which one. These four are my top picks but like I said, I prefer mobile figures without any functions and gimmicks. And because my first ever lego Bionicle set was actually Toa Jaller or Matoro from Bionicle Inika.

  • @MCLegoboy
    @MCLegoboy3 ай бұрын

    2002? Screw Bionicle, it's all about Galidor baby! Go back and time and pick those guys up! XD So continuing my Star Wars Top 5 tradition, 2002 was another good year. Attack of the Clones was being released, which meant a bunch of new sets, but we also got a number of Original Trilogy and even Phantom Menace sets, too. I only missed out on one set, so if I were to go back in time, it would be to pick up 7163 Republic Gunship with it's inferior Phase I Clones, Superior Pearl Sand Blue Super Battle Droids, and the almighty Jedi Bob! The set may not be as accurate as later incarnations would be, but it just looks cool, I wish I could have gotten it when I was younger. There's one other set I may pick up if I go back in time, and that's 10030 Imperial Star Destroyer, and the reason why is because despite having this set, I don't have it in the Old Grays. The set was on shelves as late as 2008 before retirement, which meant there were many years where it was released in the Bluish Grays. The set still looks good, in fact it's one of my favorite sets of all time (but I didn't put it on my list of Top 5), I just wish it was in the Old Grays. Or at least I wish I could see what one looks like in the Old Grays. And as for the Top 5, it's honestly a struggle to figure out what to add and what to have as honorable mentions, they're all good, or at least on a fairly even playing field. I add this one, but then I have to take that one away, but I love that one, so I have to add it back, so my Top 5 kind of showcases all the different types of sets released in Star Wars 2002. *5. 7203 and 7204 Jedi Defense I and Jedi Defense II* Honestly, you can't separate these two sets from one another, I don't even really get why they were sold separately, but they're great. Recreating two of the first scenes of The Phantom Menace, these two sets feature Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi facing down a Battle Droid Commander and a Security Droid after escaping a room full of Dioxants, and then two Destroyer Droids preventing them from reaching Nute Gunray and the other Trade Federation leadership blockading Naboo. I'm telling you right now, the 2002 design of the Destroyer Droid has never been surpassed. They're iconically LEGO while still being good representations of the Destroyer Droids, they can roll up into a ball, there's nothing not to like about them, and I don't understand how every iteration since continues to be worse than the last. But to circle back around to the other figures, the Commander and Security Battle Droids are also very cool with unique printing in a very easy to acquire set for the time. *4. 7194 Yoda* This set has one of the coolest building experiences ever. It's very much a sculptural model, but the way you build the set is not from the traditional 3/4 view except for in a few instances, instead you actually build from a top down view with each new step leaving a ghost of the previous one so you know where to apply the new pieces. It's amazing, and while I never picked up the later version based off Yoda from the Prequels, I just now it could never hold a candle compared to this. Yoda has a kinder and gentler face that feels inviting, and it's very much Yoda from the Original Trilogy. They even are able to distinguish his cloak and head with different textural styles by going strictly with bricks for the cloak, and building his head out of plates to get more subtle curves without the need of smoother pieces save for a few tiles, jumpers, and gutter plates to add specific details. It is a truly beautiful model. *3. 8012 Super Battle Droid* Of all the Technic figure models from 2000-2002 (2003 if you count 4481 Hailfire Droid) the Super Battle Droid is without one of the best, if not the very best. The colors are already impressive with nearly all of them being Pearl Sand Blue, with the occasional Medium Blue part (most notably four of Nuhvok's Weapons and one Gali Hook), and the abdomen is also wonderfully recreated with Black Matoran Arms. The other thing that makes this model stand out more is the fact that ankles, knees, hips, and elbows use ratchet joints, so it's much more articulated than other Technic models. One arm has a gear function to raise and lower it, and the other one just uses a pin, but still, that's way better than the typical locked leg format for many of the other figures, and it's better than the rubber band joints of the other droids because they're just not as sturdy as you would hope. I love all the Technic Figures, but this really is the one I feel you can truly play with as well as just display. *2. 7133 Bounty Hunter Pursuit* Of all the Episode II sets people would love to see recreated, this is probably the top spot among them. They want Jango's version of the _Slave I_ and they doubt Anakin attacking the Tusken Raiders is likely to return, but Bounty Hunter Pursuit is among the mentioned revamps fans that missed out on the original want a chance to acquire. We're still waiting on a Droid Factory and a Geonosian Arena, too, and that's really what I'm hoping for, as are we all, but I would not be mad to see Bounty Hunter Pursuit remade. It's a very fun sequence in the movie, the Yellow speeder with its exposed engines and Zam Wessel's Green Tuning Fork Speeder are truly iconic designs, and this is such a fun set to play with. It's just simple swooshing, but it works. There's also no stickers in this set, everything is printed, so that eases the mind, too. There's a cubby to store lightsabers (you don't want to lose them, those weapons are your life), and there's even a switch you can pull to have the front half of Zam's ship fall apart to represent her crashing it by the nightclub on Coruscant. The set comes with everything you could want in this set, it is perfection that would likely still hold up today, which is not bad for a 22 year old set. Honorable Mentions and the top spot are in the reply!

    Alright, let's finish this thing! *Honorable Mentions:* *7103 Jedi Duel* It's Dooku and Yoda in that Duel on Geonosis. There's a cool Sand Blue Speeder and some paraphernalia to throw about with the Force. It's a small set, but it's almost all entirely exclusive in every respect. Rare characters that hadn't been made yet, crazy colors, it's great. It was really hard not to include this in the main list. *7113 Tusken Raider Encounter* Considering what this scene is based off of, yeah, we're probably never getting something like this again. I don't know how much LEGO knew about these scenes, but Anakin on that Dark Red Swoop Bike in the Trailer was too good to pass up. This is also a vast improvement on the Moisture Vaporator design that was seen in 1999's 7101 Lightsaber Duel. It was also hard not to include in the main list. *7119 Twin-Pod Cloud Car* One word: Lobot. But also it was just cool that they made this even though Lobot never flies this thing in The Empire Strikes Back, not to mention there isn't even a second pilot. *7143 Jedi Starfighter* It's the Delta 7 that started it all, and it has great printed pieces, but getting two for one vehicles in Bounty Hunter Pursuit knocked it out of the running. *65153 Jango Fett's **_Slave I_** with Bonus Cargo Case* It's just 7153, but with an additional case for whatever reason. This version of the _Slave I_ is a vast improvement in terms of size and shaping compared to 7144 _Slave I_ from 2000, however, the set is also a bit flimsy. But that carrying case, I mean, give it too me now just so I can say I have it! *7200 and 7201 Final Duel I and Final Duel II* This is why I included the Jedi Defense sets. These two sets combined to give you all you need for the end of Return of the Jedi, and again, some relatively hard to come by figures for the time, however, the models for these figures are just not that great when you look at what you get for the Jedi Defense ones. The Door is not too special in Jedi Defense II but it looks better than the Final Duel builds, and then with the all the droids from both Jedi Defense sets, they massively outshine the Final Duel sets. Final Duel II is about one of the most obscure scenes ever depicted in a LEGO set though. Luke turning himself in and being transported via the windowed bridge under the landing pad for Vader's Shuttle when he comes to Endor? That is so out of left field and a downright terrible idea for a set without Vader being in it, but they did it. Both Final Duel sets together are cool though, and I even built a little thing resembling the Emperor's Thrown Room for both sets to slot into just so there was a bit more to them. *The Technic Figures* 8009 R2-D2 does quite a bit for a small little set, and he includes a Trans-Dark Blue boat stud for his eye, but also a solid Red one, too. 8010 Darth Vader comes with that incredible cape, and a unique piece for the hood of his helmet, that's pretty neat. He also comes with a slew of 2L axles in white for the Trans Red connectors that make up is lightsaber. And 8011 Jango Fett includes some very cool violet pieces, and when you tip him forward, he shoots the rocket from his jetpack. It's very cool. All three figures though are not as cool on their own like the Super Battle Droid though. *10026 Special Edition Naboo Starfighter* Chrome! So having mentioned every set in 2002 except for the Technic R2-D2 and C-3PO combo pack (set 65081) and the two rereleases of the X-wing, and Y-Wing & TIE Fighter sets from 1999 that were for some reason given new set numbers (7142 and 7152 respectively), that just leaves one last set to talk about! *1. 7139 Ewok Attack!* DENGAR EWOKS! This set means so much to me. You get so much, too! You get a glider (which is actually based off a design from the TV Movie Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Story) to drop 1x1 round bricks as small rocks on the enemy, a catapult to hurl 2x2 round bricks as boulders, and a Speeder Bike for those things to attack. You get a regular Stromtrooper, a Scout with the printed visor on the head underneath with these cool highlight lines, and then a Brown Ewok to represent Wicket, and a Tan Ewok to represent Paploo, but they're also generic enough that when we got more specific version of them in later years, these could just be generic warriors, meaning this set is just a big battle pack and multiples can, and should, be obtained. Hours of fun are to be had, don't be a Lurdo and let this set pass you by, it's worth it! YUB NUB!
