    I'm replying to you, as i'm sure Nicky is going to see this as well, but thanks a lot for covering MU's i've NEVER seen anyone cover this rate. Personally i don't know much about the Navy or Air Force band, but policies across the armed service bands vary, i had an ex-band director in HS who played for the 1st and 8th Drum & Bugle Corps. in Washington D.C. (hot shit). In the Army a bachelor's degree will give you the automatic rank of E-3 i can't remember if before the AFSOM (now called the NSOM). In the Marine Corps. it's far from the same as Marines they all start on a level playing field (rankwise) if you apply for the "President's Own" you achieve the automatic rank of E-6 and don't have to attend boot camp, these are the top of the line players, most of these players are packing masters and or PHD's accompanied by 10-20+ years of knowledge, these are your band directors, orchestral players, the likes It's really interesting getting into the armed service band's policies as they often change, travel opportunities are ridiculously vast, if you score a 3.0 (the Marines just got a new grading rubric/system) or above in the Marine Corps. you can choose any of the 12 field bands, 10 in the continental United States, one in Hawaii, or overseas in Okinawa. Good shit. All this info was scrambled up but i wanted to clear things up a little if i could. Less than 1% of Marines go through the Naval School of Music, and i think it's safe to assume that those numbers are consistent across all branches. For the Marines only 4 seats are open per fiscal year. Most people tend to gravitate towards the other armed service bands for several reasons, if you'd like to know more i can tell you over PM or get you in touch with someone who can answer any of your questions in regards to that. I'm just telling you what I know, i'm not a Marine, or any servicemember former or present for that matter.

    Hospital Corpsman is the absolute BEST. You can do most ANYTHING. I was a ward corpsman, an orthopedic tech, Biomedical Repair tech, EMT and a Surface Force Independent Duty Corpsman. Also, anywhere a sailor or marine goes, so does the corpsman. I base this on 20 years of being an Corpsman.

  • @robertdobyne5274
    @robertdobyne52746 жыл бұрын

    #1 SAR corpsman. Did 10 years and loved every minute. Not only are you essential air crew but you can bounce between fleet marine for combat SAR (plenty of trigger time for the gun nuts) or navy for carrier/land based SAR units (mostly civilian rescue). Certainly easier if your fit but the command structure is very minimal, corpsman generally don’t have a lot of people looking over their shoulder and have a little more autonomy.

The army says they can give me my job before I enlist. i scored a 70 on the asvab and I'm a high school senior, however I have a criminal record. I'm not 100 on what I want to do but being a Corpsman would be cool if I can travel. The navy is also really pushing for reserves. I want to go to college. but I'm thinking I'm not mature enough at 19 to choose a college major but also leaving home seems kinda hard. woah kinda rambled

  • @NICKYMGTV

    @NICKYMGTV

    7 жыл бұрын

    rambling is okay man this is a big decision. No job is guaranteed until you have a signed contract saying it which is how the navy does it. You ultimately choose your career and you're considered an adult so make sure when you go in there you tell your goals and aspirations. I totally understand about the college major because I felt the same way. Do an enlistment, spend those years brain storming, and then go to college way more mature and with more experience. I highly suggest not doing reserves because you dont get the full experience. Corpsman are EVERYWHERE so you will travel. Keep your nose clean, join, and be the best you that you can be. Good luck!

A KZread video is funnily enough a great way to show a couple of your pieces but they're probably gonna wanna know your theory and reading skills too. So its a good idea but you need to cover other areas. I luckily already have a Bachelors in Music so I've covered the basics in regards to Western Popular Music, Piano and Guitar a long time ago so I was hoping to get the rank of specialist really quick. The reason we were able to get it is because the scores that brought our average down was mechanical and electrical sections mostly with high sections of the required high areas (you can see the sections you need to score well in on the navy website

And secondly, there're many corpsmen who ride shotgun on recon and other "special op" runs. And lastly, EVERYBODY works damage control, which can be as dramatic as any pipe dream's orgasm. Thanx for the vids, JT; 32 yrs since I left active duty. Among best jobs, may I mention my own - PN now known as PS? IF one is GOOD (Sierra Hotel) (knows their manuals and instructions and the USN's inner-workings) its like being a lawyer and relied on by officers, CPO's etc. "Information is Power". Me & AW3 Tim Snyder in the VS-21 hall, and he says: "You guys RUN the Navy!" and I replied: "But if it wasn't for you guys (AW's, pilots, NFO's) no one would have a reason to show up in the morning...) TO be a PN/PS; one MUST be highly ethical because - if good - one holds LOTS of power because you are holding other's very careers and lives in your hands (leave, pay, request chits, you name it). Its demanding, don't get me wrong, and all clerical. You have your desk, your files, your phone - its a rate that also 'cuts through ranks' because you can be a Shit Hot E-3 and report directly to E-9's and O-6's. Various rates? HM is good, but tough. Aviation rates are good; for in squadrons there is a lot more 'equality' between O & E, ESPECIALLY in clerical rates like PS with LTjg's and LT's who will really need your guidance in USN regs, instructions and notices. BUT FOR THOSE JUST JOINING THE USN HEED THIS WARNING! Do NOT report to the fleet as a non-rate! And don't trust your recruiter, because that recruiter has to make 'quota' every month. I myself almost came in as a non-rate but was able to ditch it in bootcamp for A school. The USN has always been good to me; keep yourself 'A-J Squared Away' (which isn't that hard, really) and its fun, in fact! One of many reasons why I joined is this... Closest thing I'd ever get to serving onbd a Starship! Yup. BUT - I AM one of the million guys who served onbd the REAL USS Enterprise (ego tickle). "Fair Winds and Following Seas..."

    I agree with you Mega... I know a lot of corpsmen that were kicked out because they couldn't advance in time. I Am a LS and I worked with Corpsmen for 9 months on the ship so I can tell you a lot about both rates. LS job... for one is NOT boring. there is too much work all the time... but it is boring work. its counting and running back and forth between storeroom and stocking shelves all day. and inport we are usually the last ones off the boat... advancement isn't too bad but others have it nicer. Like HT... they just have to know their name to advance.

    I was a Corpsman. I went into the Navy Reserves as a paramedic not basic EMT with 12 years experience. I got a higher rank then people that had been in the service 20 years. They would find out and get pissed at me. If you want to be a Corpsman beware the rate is the same but the over jobs have changed. Everyone goes through basic Corpsman school but your job will be different die to the amount of Corpsman in the service today. I suggest you do a decent amount of research first. I highly suggest before enlisting go to Basice EMT school get your time under your belt and go to paramedic school. If your a paramedic in the navy you get the best locations and more responsibility. Paramedics are highly skilled with more specialized training then the nurses and EMT Basic. We aren't called street docs for nothing. All of the responsibility falls on you. So I on any given emergency or situation where your the most highly trained you will be giving orders.

    All Rates in the Navy work for "The Fire Controlman". The Navy's primary mission is to maintain military presence and carry out operations across the globe... In order to do that we blow stuff up. The FC is the key to this mission. Everything in the Navy is subject to change. Including rates being merged, removed and eaten by dust bunnies. These are just examples of why other rates work for the FC. Air Rates. All air rates in the Navy in one way or another assist in putting "Friendly” Aircraft (AKA Targets) in the air. This tends to lure “Hostile” aircraft out. Which then FC’s will have to blow them up. AG They go to www.weather.com and see what tomorrows weather will be like. They give their weather presentation during briefs to soothe the Officers. Real sailors never go outside or give a crap about the weather. We're too busy fixing and operating equipment that blows stuff up. FC's do care about ducting but not about the actual weather. BM They train, direct, and supervise others in marlinespike, deck and boat seamanship; they paint to make the ship look nice. That way when they take pictures after the FC's blow stuff up it looks good. Then FC's get more ribbons. BM's also help FC's get on liberty faster by doing all the work we don't like. BM's Work for the FC's. CT control the flow of messages and information. They sit in a secret room and do strange things that no one knows about. Sooner or later the information they collect is used to blow stuff up. So there for they work for the FC's. DC Perform the work necessary for damage control. They repair damage control equipment and systems. So if by some means we take an incoming missile, the FC's can continue to blow stuff up. DT Dentist/assistants. They keep FC's teeth happy. That way the FC's are happy and don't blow stuff up when they aren't suppose too. Clean strong teeth are good for biting. If you touch an FC's console/equipment or food you will get bit. EM The operation and repair of the ship's electrical power plant and electrical equipment. They give FC's power so they can blow stuff up. ET Responsible for a bunch of electronic equipment; communications, cheap radar. They take care of that easy electronics so the FC's don't have too. That way the FC's have more time to blow stuff up. ET's should also take a sanity test. During Techcore they had a chance to become an FC. Not everyone can be a master of lethality and bring destruction to our enemies. Its just in a ET's nature to be a big baby and not want to destroy things. CTT Operate and maintain electronic equipment used in navigation, target detection and location, and the prevention of spying by enemies. They can determine friend or foe by looking at emissions. If they think it is a bad guy we blow it up. EW’s are also good for bringing FC’s snacks. The CTT is the guy who sleeps in combat just a tad less than a OS. FC Maintain and operate weapon systems used on combat ships. Complex electronics are used to ensure correct missile guidance and other such ordnance. This equipment includes as such; Radar, computers, weapons-direction equipment, target-designation systems and range finders. FC's represent the technical and tactical Weappn System experts in the Navy. Warships are made to go to war, and FC's are made to fight wars. FC (AEGIS) FC's that are in the AEGIS weapon system. They should be considered something different from other FC's. AEGIS is split into elements. Examples such as; SPY, Computer, FCS/ORTS and Display. SPY Techs work on the SPY Radar, the main (and only) Search and Track Fire Control radar for the AEGIS weapon system. Computer Tech's sleep in most of the day. Once in a while they change a tape or answer a phone. FCS/ORTS Techs sleep all day as well, but the sit on the Missile System Supervisor Console and get to push the pretty buttons. Display, they fix consoles and everything else related to AEGIS. Or they do work the computer techs should be doing. There are many different types of FC's. The main purpose of them all is to BLOW STUFF UP!!! Or help in the process in doing so. Without FC's Navy ships would be used as tug boats or crappy cruise liners. FT They are FC's underwater. They are our distant cousins and they blow stuff up too! GM Maintain and repair gunnery systems. Some times even missile-launching systems. They clean them and paint them up all nice and pretty. When the FC's blow stuff up, the GM's stuff gets dirty. They also load the ordnance on the ship. That way FC's can blow stuff up. They are a form of FC that went horribly wrong early on in the process a million years ago when we were all monkeys. Due to their inbreeding they can't blow stuff up. They enjoy throwing poop, wrestling, and smashing each others heads into FC equipment so FC's have faults to fix. GM's are however evolving and all FC's should maintain a watchful eye on them. Soon they may have 4 arms and several sets of eyes. Which will be used to aim and throw poop better. GS Operate, repair, and maintain main propulsion machinery. They are the stinky guys who make sure the ship can move. It sure is hot down in the engineering spaces. About 50 degrees hotter than nice Air Conditioned FC spaces. They ensure the ship gets the FC’s where they need to go to blow stuff up. HM They keep FC's healthy and "happy". They give us cool drugs to make us crazy. Their cure for all you pains and sickness is "Motrin". "Motrin" makes FC's angry, so we blow stuff up. HT Responsible for maintaining ship's hulls, fittings, piping systems, and machinery. They are plumbers. They also get to weld some times. They fix the toilets so the FC's can poop. FC's enjoy reading in the crapper about blowing stuff up. IC Operate and repair devices used in ship's interior communicates systems. They fix phones so the FC's can talk. They also run SITE TV, and stuff like that. So FC's can watch TV. The main thing they do is keep the gyro running, which is very important. That way FC's can blow stuff up. IS Get secret military information. Gather Intel to assist in the destruction of the evil doers. The information they provide will help FC’s blow things up. MA Help keep law and order on the ship. That way the FC's don't have to kill everyone aboard. MA’s make FC's happy by letting FC's get away with stuff like "Training Videos". FC's like to watch them. That makes them happy. Then they go blow stuff up. CS They cook food and feed FC's. FC's like MS's because FC's are really hungry after blowing stuff up. Next time you see an MS tell them FC's love them. Their food gives us gas so in combat FC's will always win in a farting contest. Other rates cannot properly digest food that MS's make. Its referred as "Death from Within". It could be considered a weapon or cruel punishment in some Countries. Send them our cooks and they shall surely die. (Recently changed to CS, Culinary Specialist.) MM Operate and maintain a bunch of stuff for ship propulsion and auxiliary machinery. Aux equipment like elevators, refrigeration plants, air conditioning systems and desalinization plants. They are in the Engineering department. So like most if not all engineers, they keep the ship moving and operating so FC's can go BLOW stuff up. MR Skilled machine-tool operators. They make replacement parts for various types of equipment. They some times give or make FC’s parts to help them fix their gear. For example bolts, nuts and gaskets. Some MR’s work on the VCHT system as well. (See HT) NC ( Try to get FC's to reenlist, with promises of nice SRB and the endless quest to blow stuff up. OS Pretend to operate radar’s, navigation and communications equipment. They pretty much clean Combat Information Center and get FC's a coke to drink. They operate a consoles and talk on Red phones. They also are expertly skilled at writing backwards. OS's brake FC's stuff (consoles) so we get mad and blow stuff up. Hey TIC correlate my middle finger in front of your face. OS's love to induce Operator Error Faults into any piece of equipment they touch. PS Bug FC's about personal requirements rights and benefits. They also keep records up to date. That way when a FC gets an award it goes into his Service record. That makes FC's happy so they go blow stuff up and get paid. QM Steer the ship and skillfully navigate the ship. That way FC's are closer to the stuff they blow up so they can take pictures. IT They use to be RM's (Radioman) Operate communications. Like E-mail and load crypto as well. That way FC's can write home about stuff they blew up. Plus the ship can talk to other ships about stuff the FC's blew up. That way the FC's feel good. SH Manage barber shops, ships store etc. That way FC's can have candy that the OS's, ET's, ST's and GM's buy them. The FC's can also get a haircut and look sharp for the pictures after blowing stuff up. LS Supply clerks. They order stuff for the ship. That way the FC's can have new parts for the equipment. Or a new shirt and some pants. LS's get us stuff and our mail so we can blow stuff up. ST Look for things long and hard full of seaman. ST's try to find subs. Its like finding a flash light in a bathtub using your ear. But usually the FC's find subs when their periscope pops up from the water. Then the FC's blow the sub up. ST's focus on Underwater Warfare so we can focus on the real warfare areas like Air, Surface and Strike warfare. YN Secretarial work and clerical work. They write things into FC's records so the FC's can blow stuff up. YN's do a lot of paper work. So they are "busy" and can never help FC's. So FC's get mad and blow stuff up. YN's like many other rates have working hours. Please come back tomorrow at 0800.

    I was an OS back when we weren't only paper pushers and intell wonks. I've seen some FC's get into some crap when their equipment broke and watched them pull their hair out. They earn their money that is for sure.

    Yeah, the only problem with IT is that people expect you to troubleshoot for 12 hours straight, and then study for another 4 hours afterward. Brains don't work that way.
