Not sure it's best to judge based on technology like HD though. It's about impact and upgrade at the time vs the previous generation. PS2 was a great console but it didnt really offer anything innovative versus previous consoles. The graphics improved like every other console and they pretty much kept the same controller which basically remains on PS4. Don't get me wrong it wasn't broke the PS2 just benefited from advances in technology like HD and an internal hard drive. They had a great library, but so have other consoles before it. Most of PS2's great games were continuing franchises created on previous consoles. Here's my top 5 of all time in terms of impact, graphics at the time and playability. 1) N64 2) PS 1 3) Sega Saturn 4) Dreamcast 5) Nintendo

I like older consoles more. Up to the PS2, everything (almost) was being done right.

I personally loved Super Nintendo and GameCube! Was kind of shocked to not see SNES on here.

miss it so much :'( it did show that great games is what makes an amazing console not the stupid graphics

xbox 360 is hands down the pinnacle of all consoles, in front of the switch and wii (in my opinion). i just found my all white xbox 360 and decided to hook it up. i fixed the cd rom so it wasnt jammed, and thats it. i booted it up and it still worked. there were tons of games on it and awesome memories, and it gave me a warm feeling in my heart.

Not sure about it myself. Thought it was a great console, but its not even my favourite of that generation(GameCube was for me). Hard to pick a favourite though. I thought the ps3's library was the best this generation, and even better than the ps2's library. I suppose you have to merit for advancements in gaming, and PS2 brought a lot of people into gaming and a lot to the market.

Ianthebassist Personally I think that PS2 is better because of the games it had, such as the first Killzone, God of War, Metal gear solid 2,3 (and technically MGS1), and GTA (SA,3, and VC). The fact that the PS2 could play PS1 games made it even better. Either way though both consoles were amazing.

Of course the PS2 . I still play with it In Janaury . I play God Of War 2 . But I do not have a memory card so I have to restart from the beginning .

Mexassassin07 PC does over power consoles in tearms of hardware and compatibility. LinusTechTips proved that the consoles are based around 2-4 year old hardware. Also i like the upgradeability with PC's, you can chose a bugget PC and as you get more money upgrade different components!

+Ole Olsen SEGA only had Sonic? Give me a break! SEGA had a lot of classic and memorable games; Aladdin (SNES had crappier version of this title, by far), QuackShot, World of Illusion, Castle of Illusion, Wonderboy in Monster World, Zoom!, Ecco II The Tides of Time, Vectorman, Vectorman 2, Dynamite Headdy (Which btw, has some amazing music, better than most SNES games I've seen), and Gunstar Heroes. I could probably add to this list if I gave it a bit more time

I would have to disagree....no one could have wanted 64 to be great more then me. I had this system on day one. I pre-ordered it, it was the first system I ever bought with my own money back when I was only 14. But truth be told, it was very disappointing. For years it hardly had any impressive games aside from Mario and golden eye and wcw wrestling. Other than that the games were shit.

Eh. In no particular order: NES SNES PS1 XB360 Nintendo DS

The PS2 is probably my favourite console, whenever I get the chance to play it (since I sold mine a few years ago - which I deeply regret), it's just so nostalgic! Thinking of picking up a second hand one on Ebay. You can get like 20 games for £10, it's awesome.

I have the nes classic edition. I just got it two days ago too! :D

My top 5: 5. N64 - big leap in graphics from SNES, best local multiplayer games, not as many good games as PS but the top 20-30 had enough content to keep you busy (Super Mario 64, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Zelda Majoras Mask, Banjo & Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, The World Is Not Enough, Road Rash, Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, etc.) 4. Sega Genesis - has at least 100 - 125 quality games worth playing compared to 50 - 75 on SNES, my first real gaming system as a kid, tons of under rated games or games that weren't properly marketed so many never knew about them, games are still fun to play 3. PS4 - tons of exclusives, remasters, compilations, great online multiplayer games, deep and immersive games you can really sink your teeth into. So many great games to keep me busy until PS5. The only reason this didn't make my number 2 is because I felt PS4 relied a little bit on previous series (Uncharted, GOW, COD, FF, etc) and remasters or compilations of many great games from PS3 (Bioshock trilogy, Last of Us, KH compilations, Burnout Paradise, etc...). Great selection of indie games and PS2 games available on the store. 2. PS3 - free online multiplayer, Blu-ray player, tons of great remasters and compilations, all PS3s play the entire PS1 library of games via disc or digital store download, tons of amazing exclusives and new series, games still look and play great with many having replay value, many under rated hidden gems. 1. PS2: plays all your PS1 games, plays DVDs, has great games in every genre, no worrying about online, micro transactions or downloading updates/patches, best selling gaming system for a reason. Games still hold up.

I love my PS2 console while growing up. I managed to find a slim for $35 at a thrift store a couple years ago and is still rocking it. Also, given the PS4 doesn't have backwards compatibility with the older games, it's worth keeping one around. ^_^

One thing I don't understand about this list was the fact that the Xbox 360 was on this list and the Ps3 wasn't? How does that make sense, when the Ps3 is better in almost every way. EDIT: I also think the same should go for SNES and Sega Genesis. Genesis sucked compared to SNES. I own 49 Genesis Games btw, so I can talk.

because the launch and sales were terrible at the beginning, and didn't actually change the way about games and features. The PS3 was 600$ back in 2006, and Sony still lost 200$ on every PS3 sold, because Blu-Ray was expensive back then.

Dude, compare to the PS3, the PS2 was played all around the world and is was cheaper so people in developing countries are able to buy it even though the PS3 has been launch at the time. First impressions are everything and during the PS3 launch, it was really expansive and games are expansive and there not a lot of them at that time.

The *Gamecube* was the *#1* best console (in my opinion)

For me it was Super Smash Bros Melee and the Sonic Adventure series.

Personally, my #1 would be the Wii for its breakthrough, motion controls that work, beautiful library of games, as always. Backwards compatibility ( Able to play GameCube games ) was great, the Mii's were neat, Wii Shop was amazing! Rip Wii Shop

My first console was the PS2S, Which is the newest version of the PS2 (It's still old tho) and my first game was Shadow the Hedgehog.

I actually still have my Playstation 3 and 2, Wii, Nintendo DS and 3DS PSP, Gameboy Game boy Advanced SP, and of course the original Xbox 360. They represented my whole childhood and nolstagia of gaming. Although I watched walkthroughs and videos on KZread in order to feel nolstagic, I still feel good after playing my gaming consoles

I like how this list included at least one console from the four major developers: Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and Sega.

#PS2 started my real love for gaming. Best games ever on it were spiderman 2, hulk ultimate destruction, shadow of the colusses and Black

iPhone is the best console, and nobody could ever fucking speak against it. When I first got an iPhone, I was so excited that I wouldn't be trashy anymore. I got so many friends with the iPhone 5C's stunning colors and sexyness, and that isn't even half of it. It has over 30 GB worth of data. I was able to store, if I recall, 10,000 photos and it would only take up 4 gigabytes. It would play games that would seem laggy to a console and turn it into a lagless portable experience. I am a true fucking gamer, I play Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Flappy Bird, and Clash of Clans daily, I can message friends and stay up to date, I can talk to people with my face and always remember how my friends looked like, I can take endless photos with no worry about using data, and I could browse infinite pages of the internet, which a shitty console can't do. The PC, Wii, PS4, and Xbox 1 can't do any of this shit. Compete with that. Also, nice trolling, with you're not including you're fucking iphone as a console, as you clerelay need to get some facts strate.

+DubzyWolf you can play almost all of those games on an xbox 360. and you can skype using the kinect. And an xbox 360 has a 250 gb hard drive and you can change it to a higher gb hard drive. The xbox 360 has halo:reach, halo 4, gta 5, gow 1-3, all the best call of dutys, and a bunch of retro games. Also xbox 360 is backwards compatible and it can play fucking halo 3. gtfo with your jokes. iphone is shit

I'd have to say that the 2 systems I spent the most tine in front of were the ATARI 7800 and the SUPER NINTENDO. I am happy to have been able to purchase a SUPER NES Mini.

I remember being a six year old playing Ninja Turtles and Ben 10 on PS2, spending hours on a mission lol

Ah. I love my PS2. I know my PC emulator can play, and make games look better. But nothing beats sitting down with the old controller, putting in the disk, turning on my T.V that I've had since 2004 (and still use for N64 and PS2 gaming today) and playing a game with my friend. My favorite games were (in no particular order) 1. Destroy all Humans 2. Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom 3. Star Wars: Battlefront 4. Lego Games 5. Ribbit King 6. Rampage 7. Spider-Man 2

Jaibeer Dugal Steam machine is any PC with a SteamOS installed and running. Steam machine is any machine with Steam. And a console is simply an Apple computer without a proper GUI.

The Xbox One should be #1. I mean, it plays all games at 4K, while staying at 120 fps. The games also look better than it would on a PC and a PS4. It's probably better than both combined. I'm not serious.

Fun fact: Nintendo released a backlit version of the Game Boy... in Japan. It's pretty rare but it is worth it if you find it.

In Holland the WII U wasn't that big of a console, and I haven't heard all my students about the Switch yet. I remember the gameboys and the ds lite were THE thing when I was younger.. and some boys had a psp but everyone had ds lite.. when that died I haven't seen so many children with 3ds or something I feel the DS died with the DS lite

Mine is 5.GameCube 4.NES 3.Ps2 2.Xbox One 1.Gameboy-Ds/3ds Personally I had to put the GameCube on my list because I'm am currently 12 years old and I remember spending countless hours playing SuperSmashBros melee on it. The game boy was for sure the system I spent the most time on! I remember playing the original silver and gold! When I was 6 I got a Ds where I played diamond, white and soulsilver, in 2012 I got my 3ds xl where I played major as mask and ocarina of time! In the beginning of 2015 I got the New 3ds xl and it gave my old one to my cousin, I loved playing Super Smash bros 3ds, Pokemon X, Pokemon Omega ruby and all of those amazing games! Currently I still have tons of fun! I have and Xbox one where I use to play minecraft, COD, and GTA V! What are your top choices?

Medieval Blast if you want to go down to specs then the One is far superior to the PS4 in everything except for graphics, but if you only play games for graphics then you dont really have a say

Nicholas Perl First off, I never said that Sega was better, and if it is, then that's my own opinion. Honestly right now I don't really play any games to do with them. I just play Playstation. Also, your last point is kinda bad. A fast hedgehog or a Italian plumber. -_- And sonic does the exact same to his enemys. And again, I *never* said my opinion on Sonic the hedgehog on my original comment. The only game I put was streets of rage, and I love that game. And if you got to choose what game you play blindly, you would choose a game about a plumber over a hedgehog.
