    Dude, I love your stories and advices. I'm just planning to start up a Juwel Rio180 tank. The last aquarium I had was about 45 years ago, still have that 60cm aquarium but it's been empty for over 35 years. So renewing my old hobby. Taking in much of your advice here!

    I think Cryptocorynes are the easiest plants. Even when every other plant has problemes, they will always grow. In my tank I have low light (one t 8), no CO2, only gravel and no fertilizer but it still grows and looks good. A few weeks ago I started to add some iron but only because the hygrophila polysperma had white leaves.

    I have an aquarium lily in my 29g community and it's insane how fast the thing puts out new lily pads. 1-2 new fully formed pads a week, I have to trim it back constantly to let the light get to my hygrophila.

    My dwarf goramis love my lilies and so do I. I've found the guys to be a bit slow when it comes to feeding time and when the pads are dense enough you can leave little pieces of food right in the spaces between pads that don't get noticed right away by the greedier fish I have in my tank like my black skirts and red minors. They are dead easy to grow, though if you take them from bulbs you have to be patient. They take a long time to start up.

    I've got an Anubias that's doing really well (do they flower? because there's some new growth that kinda looks like a bud) and some java fern that's growing a little *too* well. I'm hoping the dwarf lily I got will one day have flowers. I have some ludwigia that gets some nice red in it too. I tried some monte carlo but couldn't get it to carpet but I have a little patch of flame moss isn't too bad. I used to have some anacharis that was pretty nice too.

Also thanks for the pen and stickers you included in my pre-filter kit, its a nice personal touch and is one of the many reasons why I'd rather order from you than Amazon! :D I'm curious about the banana plants, everything I've read makes them seem pretty easy, is there a nuance to them that excluded them from this video? And also what should i be looking (or not looking) at considering i just have a pool sand substrate? Thanks again!

    My java ferns always die in 3 months or so. I can keep anubias, java moss, amazon swords, water sprite and water wisteria alive, but my java fern always turns blackish brown, gets pinholes and melts away in months. I'm aware pinholes usually mean nitrogen and pottassium deficiencies buuttt..... I dose NPK + micro trace elements from seachem products every week and have moderate (2watt/gal t5 lighting) and use excel for carbon. Could it be my tank is too warm (tropical climate with 29C/84F temp)? maybe its the supplier? Any insight is appreciated!:)

  • @AquariumCoop

    @AquariumCoop

    I'd say temp is a bit high, have you tried something like Easy Green or Tropica's all in one fertilizer etc? In my experience most people don't dose nutrients correctly when figuring out their own ratios. Also you could have other plants just straight up out competing the java fern.

    Aquarium Co-Op ok thanks Cory! I live in Singapore so I have to get a third part company to ship the easy green to me (which you should totally recommend as a method to those who want to buy your stuff from overseas) and it will arrive in a month or so I use the ratios given on the Thrive all in one fert and mix my seachem ferts that way. i should try a fan to keep temps down. its frutrating living in this heat with this hobby. whats worse is that the humidity is high too, so when I use my onlh chiller on my goldifsh tank, I get a lot of condensation on the surface, which makes it very hard to see.

    You said "aponogeton Crispus" is a bulb and also have it listed as a bulb on your site. It's actually a rhizomous/tuberous plant. Some proofs of that is that everything in the Aponogetonaceae family are all rhizomous/tuberous, and no bulbs are in the family. Also the propagation of it is done by division, like you would with any other rhizomous/tuberous plant.

    Does aponogeton crispus go into a dormant period and if it does what do I do? Also do I have to plant the Bulb halfway in the substrate or is it okay to leave it floating in the tank water/just on top of the substrate

    If it goes dormant. Just leave it in the tank.

    Not sure I agree with the dwarf Lilly as number one. I've only been able to grow it in relatively shallow tanks, anything over 10 inches and it just barely holds on.

    Hi, I noticed you sell lead plant weights on your website and I need something to anchor my plants. I've been reading conflicting posts about those weights and would like your opinion. Are they safe for my fish to use them in my tank?

    Yes they are safe. Even though they are called lead eights they aren’t made with lead anymore
