Actually surprised you didn't include the wave tiki bamboo stick or the black minnow but you did explain the reasons for the choices and that makes perfect sense. Agree with you on soft plastics, even good quality ones are very affordable and not difficult to fish.

    Thanks for that Cal, I'm a big fan of the IMA Komomo and Sasuke too, but was surprised you didn't choose an IMA Hound. Casts miles and swims a bit deeper so I bought twenty copy blanks from AliEx for $3 each.I spray them up in pearl, cotton candy and some natural colours. They are virtually indistinguishable from the real thing, the difference being the price allows me to fish them on my shallower marks without worrying too much- I keep my genuine patterns for safer spots! They are great in a good chop too.Your Evo lure is very similar to the Sidewinder Bass Stick- big, casts well and fishes well at night, I had my pb 77cm just creeping it back with the rod high. I'm envious you have bass all year, bar the schoolies in the estuary I'm still waiting for fish to show here in West Wales- four blanks so far!

  • @FISHINGWITHCAL

    @FISHINGWITHCAL

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks. I've not used the hounds before if i'm being honest. I don't do a lot of fishing in deeper water. Most of my fishing is in shallow water, so with the shallow divers i use i don't want them to swim any deeper then a foot maximum really. The Komomo is perfect for that and the Sasuke can be fished shallow with the rod tip held a bit higher. I will look into getting a hound to try out though, i've seen some photos of some great bass being caught on them. Cheers 👍

    Hi Cal... Good simple info! Great. Like to know when fish get caught to...at what tide times and like you said the moon phase? Thanks for the vid! B

  • @FISHINGWITHCAL

    @FISHINGWITHCAL

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks a lot. Bass can be caught at all states of tide, it really depends on the mark you’re fishing. In general, I’d say that big sandy beaches fish well over high water whereas rough shallow ground can be very good over low water. That’s a very basic generalisation though. As far as the moon phase, obviously with brighter moons you have bigger tides, so they can be good for bringing the bass in close to shore at night. Personally I find either a bright night or a very dark night can both be good for bass. The least productive I find would be when the weather is very settled and the moon is very bright. There are other factors that come into play though, the air pressure and weather will play a part too. Cheers👍🏼

    My 5 fav bass lures are - toby spinner, savage gear seeker, skerries eel, ima hound glide sub surface hard lure and Angel kiss sub surface hard lure. Been bass fishing 10 years this year and yet to catch off top. Hopefully this is the year.

    Yeah that’s a good selection. I really like the hound glide. We all have that one lure type that we find hard to catch on. Once you catch off the top, you’ll absolutely love it from then on. Still to this day I have never caught a bass on a metal lure. I have seekers etc and I really don’t like them. Others swear by them but metals would be my nemesis 😂

    Given the advantages of Weedless lures, is there any advantages of a standard lure considering the snagging ability of them?

  • @FISHINGWITHCAL

    @FISHINGWITHCAL

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yeah for sure. If you’re fishing over sand then something like a skerries eel or SG sandeel are great. I fish one mark off the shore on a sandy beach at night so by using a something like a skerrie means you can bounce it off the bottom. I’ve even had a little turbot take the lure by doing that. They’re also good for deeper water marks too. I know what you mean, you can now buy pretty much any lure like that in a weedless version. I tend to find you’ll still get snagged though. Most of the time when I fish a weedless lure I’ll fish it weightless too, rather then having a heavy jig head in it.

  • @1007yt

    @1007yt

    @@FISHINGWITHCAL you can bounce a Weedless minnow etc over sand…the point I was making a Weedless is far less likely to snag so wouldn’t you just use Weedless all the time?

  • @FISHINGWITHCAL

    @FISHINGWITHCAL

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@1007yt well it’s each to their own isn’t it. Of coarse you could just use weedless all the time. It really depends on what you want out of the lure you’re using. Hard lures snag really easily too but you still run them over extremely shallow rough ground. I use the weedless minnow that’s in this video purely for the weight and casting ability of it. The fact that it’s weedless is completely irrelevant for the type of mark I’d use it at. I wouldn’t run a standard lure through kelp no, but I do think a standard lure will be more effective for certain situations and I also think that the hook up rate is ever so slightly better too through my own experiences.

    No. You will get it when a bass will sense something isn’t right. That could come down to water clarity possibly, if the waters crystal clear then maybe the fish will see the hooks, or line in the water?.. Bass will eat almost anything! @@troywales983 Well no because I'm not a fish 😂 I've had it many times when bass will chase the lure to your feet then turn away at the last moment. You'll also get it when they just wont commit to a topwater lure too. Who knows what fish think, sometimes they can feed hard for ages and other times they just don’t seem interested.
