OK, here's a Larry Bird game stat for you... In February 1985, against the Utah Jazz, Bird had 30 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, and 9 steals, then checked out of the game at the end of the third quarter. Yep, one steal away from a quadruple double after three quarters. When the coach asked if he wanted to go back into the game and get that last steal, Bird said "Nah, I've already done enough damage." He didn't care about stats, just wanted his team to win every game. Legend!

Larry Bird - Top tier jump shooter. Top tier hustle. Top tier outlet passer. Top tier rebounder. Top tier free throw shooter. Top tier IQ. Top tier no-look passer. Top tier clutch. Top tier 3 pt shooter. Top tier playmaker. Top tier team leader. Top tier tap-passer. Top tier off-ball player. Top tier toughness. Great defender and the player with the least amount of weaknesses to his game in NBA history. His opponents feared him, and they have gone on the record in multiple instances to share that.

NOONE ever said bird was a selfish player. he was the ULTIMATE team player. YET NOBODY questioned his capabilities in the CLUTCH.. he had ice in his veins BUT was ALSO INTELLIGENT enought to KNOW WHEN to score and WHEN to pass. yea probably played more within the flow of the game than any other player ever. he was so fluid he could play with ball movers like Dennis Johnson AND Ball stoppers like Kevin Mchale. it didnt matter. he was the ALPHA AND the GLUE of that team.

And there's a video out there called the Beautiful Game where it highlights this 1986 Championship team's passing. It was insane. He had the entire team looking to make the right pass, all the time. If teams chose to play like that today, they'd be nearly unstoppable. Regardless of how many great athletes you have, the ball moves much faster than anyone can't dribble. It's really simple but highly effective and efficient basketball. Teams today wouldn't know what to do if the offense made them move and work like this. And yes, with Jokic at the pivot, they can run this offense, and it can't be stopped with a player like Jokic running it. Americans could learn to play this way, but there's a selfish mentallity out there. Larry simply played to win. Rather than go back in the game and get a 10th or 11th steal (a record at the time) Larry chose to sit the fourth quarter because the Celts were winning by so much. one steal away from a quadruple double in only three quarters. He refused to go back in and try to get 10, because he thought it would be stat padding. One steal shy of the fourth quadruple double in league history. Would have been the first to include steals and not blocks.

Larry Bird IS basketball. And as a overall team player from day 1 in the league. Theres more than a few videos that say. After Larry Bird lost to Magic and MSU. When he got to the NBA ,he took it out on the whole league. Boston wins 29 games season before. Goes to 61 wins in his rookie season. Still the greatest turnaround in NBA history. Put his first 8 seasons against ANYONE. WHOMEVER you pick. Is going to likely. Come up short. Best overall team player, to lace them up.

I'm not a basketball afficieando --- but when Larry Bird caught his own rebound....I mean...he did that. And he told those guys one time "I'm gonna play this game left-handed" and he did And he won. And the other team guys said "we tried everything...I guarded him...we guarded him .....together..." nothing worked. Nothing worked.

Magic's passes look phenomenal. Larry's passes are perfect... right in the hands. They are more effective passes. Magic's are more aesthetic. Both are fantastic. Bird also had more types of passes in his bag, including amazing full court passes that landed right in the breadbox every time.

Yes, this was his 3rd MVP (in a row). I agree that Magic had a better "playing" career. But Bird had a better "career", as he went on to be coach of the year and executive of the year for the Pacers. Bird had more talent as a player. Magic had more rings. Both are great in their own way. For the 80s, Bird won MVP 3 times, was 2nd in voting 5 times, and was 4th in voting in his rookie year. From 1980-1988 Bird dominated the league.

There were really great teams in the 80s. The Milwaukee Bucks really wasn’t one of them, but there were some great teams in the 80s bird was just a sharp shooter He didn’t miss and he was the best passer in the league and he won three straight MVPs and yes, he did win MVP this year, also won three straight three-point contests in the All-Star game. I was there in 1986 this year when they won the championship game six against Houston and I jumped on the court with the rest of the people they don’t do that anymore. You should check that out, game six of the 1986 championship.

I've never seen so many wet shots. This is a top five elite offensive player of all time. No question. Larry had more ways to hurt you, arguably, than any player ever. He out scored them, out rebounded them, out passed them, and out hustled them. MJ listed his top five players of all time. Guess who's on that list. MJ stood next to Larry on the court, he knows who this guy is. MJ might be the only guy in the league who wasn't actually afraid to face him, because if they weren't locked in on him the entire game, he embarrassed opposing defenders.

I love your reaction it's honest and I always like honesty people are gonna like who they like regardless of who's better. I'll give you that but just in the case of Larry Bird and Johnson johnson wasn't a better player and most of the NBA would tell you in that time that bird was a better player all around. Johnson got more finals because if you look at the Eastern conference in comparison to the Western conference in that time the Western conference was a cake walk bird had to battle a lot more on his Eastern conference you've got the Chicago Bulls you've got the bad boy pistons. If you go look up the conferences it will actually show you how hard the Eastern conference was in his time so and saying all that Bird making it to the finals and winning 3 ti'm was harder than Johnson winning 5. If you don't believe me go ahead and look it up he got vacation shots and did before heaven went up against Larry Bird larry bird had to play all the way until the day before he had to match up in the finals with the Lakers. On top of that because of some c*** that Dennis Rodman and Isaiah Thompson said about him he also before the game had to go to a Press conference about it just to tell everybody who cares he doesn't he's not wanting to deal with that because right now he needs to be getting ready to go up against Johnson and the lakers. Sometimes people don't put in perspective what people have to do to get to where they had to fight harder to get There. And that is not to say Johnson isn't good that's just to say he got real lucky he was in the West now bird was in the West he would have made more finals than that trust me

Jordan didn’t win his second championship until Bird retired. Bird’s back had given out on him in the 1990’s and his team also suffered. Had their number one pick Len bias not died before he could even be drafted, the Celtics probably wouldn’t have lost at all he was so good. So hmmm. Saying Jordan is better? Nope. Yes, he has more championships, but by that token, Bill Russel is the goat then with 11 rings. 8 out of 11 was straight up won in a row. Don’t bring up the argument that Jordan only lost to Bird because of a loaded Celtic’s team either. Larry Bird by himself took a losing mediocre team that won 29 outta 62 games to literally a 61 outta 21 win team ratio. He did it without the aid of Kevin McHale and Robert Parish for two whole seasons. That’s two years. Jordan just didn’t like to pass the ball in the beginning. Once Bird and his aging Celtics, hampered by injuries retired, he won.
