    I have a Max2 and honestly the only things I like about it are the auto lockouts and ability to see MPH on the screen. The range is quite lackluster given the price, at least what the price used to be. My $199 Bel RX65 outperforms it on both K and Ka band and was 1/3 of the price. Escort REALLY needs to step up their game and come out with a Redline with TSR, BSM AND K filtering/auto city mode/mute abilities, as well as auto lockouts.

    Thanks for the great videos. Very helpful. I sport tour on a motorcycle. We obey speed limits in towns, so I’m completely focused on early detection out in the country from the front. That is until the display went out..🙁 It was a great detector though and it technically still works but I can only hear the sound queues like the distinctive chirping/whistling sound of Ka band which is all I care about here in California. I like how u recommend to just turn of k band here in California Vortex but I'm just a little paranoid that there could be that one old fashioned cop or something..Who knows maybe one day u can come down and do some testing in the golden state bro! 👍Great Video Vortex

    Testing out my DFR7 and I notice it only picks up my test signals (either radar or laser) from the front lens of the detector (unlike my 9500ix). I thought it would give 360 degree protection. I know it won't matter for laser, but KA and K and even X bands are used in my State. I thought that was pretty much industry standard now.

  • @VortexRadar

    @VortexRadar

    7 жыл бұрын

    Rear laser detection with the DFR7 is very limited, but that doesn't matter much in practice like you said. As for radar, every radar detector ever created can detect radar from behind, simply because radar is reflective and bounces around (which is why police radar guns work in the first place.. the signals bounce back to their radar guns). It won't be as sensitive from behind since the antenna is aimed forwards, but it can still detect radar from any direction. The whole 360 degree protection thing is a bit of a marketing gimmick.

  • @nutbag

    @nutbag

    7 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Vortex - understood. Specs do say there is a rear laser antenna, but I get no hits on any laser band with front antenna covered while pointing tester at the rear at many angles. No biggie. Looking forward to new firmware with hopefully an increase in mute memory slots. I think it is capped at only 200 from what I remember reading.

    Honest question, do you think at some point, all cops will shy away from K band and only use KA band? And if that happens, will the false alerts happen much less? Since they're usually X and K band?

  • @VortexRadar

    @VortexRadar

    7 жыл бұрын

    One could only hope! There's actually new K band antennas that are coming out now that are more compact and affordable so K band is by no means dead. Even if they do buy more and more Ka, they keep gear for ages and it's not like existing equipment will suddenly disappear. If anything we need better and better filtering given the proliferation of BSM's nowadays.

    Vortex Radar Another Question! I am more than likely going to get a Max 2. But, I REALLY dig the arrows of the max 360, and I don't see the V1 as an option. But I've seen many reviews saying that the arrows are REALLY delayed on the max 360. Is that still the case? It has there been a software update fixing it? It was in the list originally. However, once I started getting into it, a few things came to mind: 1) The lockouts aren't working properly yet. 2) The mute all K band feature is great but it's not exactly a beginner feature 3) Some of the menu options like K/Ka Narrow or fine tuning how strong the signal needs to be before you get an alert are great for enthusiasts but wind up confusing newer people. It's a great detector no doubt, but it doesn't offer a whole ton above and beyond the DFR7 in terms of the basics that really set it apart IMHO.

  • @Levathain

    @Levathain

    Oh I see why you left it out then, one you can throw up on your window and call it a day is definitely more of a beginner at that point.

  • @VortexRadar

    @VortexRadar

    7 жыл бұрын

    It would be a fine option if it had better BSM filtering. In its current form its more of a specialized, high performance, and more enthusiast focused detector. You could add Escort Live, it's true, but I've found it to be confusing to people who don't realize that you have to always have the app running, the lockouts don't work reliably if you're using Android instead of iOS, and so on. Again a great detector if you can work around its limitations, but not necessarily the best one to get started with IMHO.

    The Redline is really only good if you live in a very rural area and where K band is hardly in use. But it is a BEAST on Ka band.

    Yeah I thought about it for the CA thing I mentioned with the DFR6, but the whole objective is to keep things simple and not overwhelm people with options. :) That's the hard part... figuring out what to leave out in the name of simplification.

    Hi Vortex, i recently bought an escort redline thanks to your "Radar Detector Deals, March 2017" video. I was wondering if you could help me out with a few questions. First, I went through your extremely helpful setting up escort redline video, since the video is a couple of years old, I was wondering if you had any updates on setting the up the redline, especially on the Ka band segmentation? I live near Portland, Oregon, if that helps. Second, I was trying to look for information to find out what kind of bands/radar detectors are mostly used in Oregon but could not find any information, can you please point me to where I can find some up to date information. I checked www.rdforum.org/wiki/index.php?title=RDF_Geographical_Survey, but the page always comes up blank. Third, while looking for information to find out what kind of bands/radar detectors are used, I found out that around Portland and surrounding areas, mostly Laser detectors are used. I am kind of doubting my purchase right now and thinking of returning the redline. What do you think? I planned to use the radar detector for highway driving only and wanted the radar detector for long range detection, but if only laser detectors are used there is no point. FYI: I don't want to invest in a laser jammer, I am a fairly safe driver, and just wanted the red line for additional safety. BTW, your videos are amazing. Really appreciate all your info. Thanks!

  • @VortexRadar

    @VortexRadar

    7 жыл бұрын

    Congrats on the Redline! So the only thing that's really changed from that video is that with all the new cars with blind spot monitoring systems, you'll want Auto Mode and TSR on to help with that. Ka Band Segmentation, 2/5/8 is the standard setup for the entire country. Some people do 2/5/6/8 for some Stalker guns. I was in Portland a few weeks ago and noticed the photo radar vans they run there operate on K band so you'll definitely need K band on too. Here's the video from it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k6Z9vMajkrvdgZs.html I've noticed some other people in Portland who've posted videos from the vans around town as well. Laser is used pretty heavily in Portland. You guys have some absurdly low speed limits there! It's crazy.. If you don't want to protect yourself with jammers, at least run Waze. Unlike with radar, officers running laser have to be parked and stationary so they're more likely to be marked on Waze when they're set up shooting laser. Waze isn't a substitute for laser jammers, but it's a great complement to it and will help out before you eventually get a set. As for the RDFGS, yeah it's down right now as it's being upgraded. Take a look here to see a backup: www.rdforum.org/showthread.php?t=59672

    There's nothing wrong with the beginner detectors. They just mean that they do more for you without the risk of potentially missing legitimate police alerts in order to get more performance or filtering. It's kind of like the difference between an automatic transmission or a manual transmission. Stick shifts give you more control, but not everyone wants to drive a stick and it's totally cool driving an automatic as well.
