As a Physiotherapist who works with the elderly, we prescribe things like the tush turner and other gadgets that allow people with mobility issues to be more independent. There are also things like electric can openers and long handled aids for when they have issues with their upper limb. This! I bought my mother the Toucan battery operated can opener because her previous can opener (which was an electric one, no less) crapped out on her after using it for years. In addition my mother suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis; so doing certain tasks such as opening cans jars and bottles is quite difficult for her. Nowadays she loves her can opener and called it the best Christmas present she got.

To be fair, many of these products are actually intended for disabled folks, but since you can't really market things like that and be successful, we end up with these 'oh wow! you can't use toothpaste! ads. The reason people pick fun of them, is because in many cases, the abled can't see any reason why THEY would need them, so they can't see any reason why ANYONE would need them. If you can easily do all of these things without thinking twice about them, consider yourself lucky. That may not be the case one day.

Did You Know - A large number of "as seen on TV" ads are created for people with disabilities and limitations and to make it appear more normalized in an ableist society. The reason that the actors are so "obviously ridiculous and over the top" is because they wouldn't sell as much if they used it for their inteded purposes - to help disabled and old people with limited mobility.

I have some As Seen On TV shoe-free arch supports, called Strutz. I LOVE them. I had plantar fasciitis, and needed arch supports. But was also taking belly dance lessons, and we were supposed to dance barefoot. The Strutz were really helpful. They look a bit silly, but I didn’t care, since they let me keep dancing! Also, there are now about a dozen different kinds that I saw when I searched for them just now. Clearly many people find them useful. My mom has a Cami secret. As others have said, it makes sense here in TN. It’s more flexible than having a bra with a built in camisole front, too, since you can move it from outfit to outfit. And really, it’s just a different version of the garment/accessory known as a “dickie”, which is the top part of a shirt, without the rest of the shirt. People have been using versions of these for literally centuries. They are still useful. And I am in agreement with everyone here who has said that things like the Tush Turner are excellent adaptive tools. Making fun of them is, in a word, ableist. You won’t find them as funny when you get older and/or lose some ability. We are all of us only temporarily abled, as I’ve heard it said.

Between the extra fat, the general weakness, & the aches & pains of the illness, I was unable to take care of certain cleansing actions so I ordered a Comfort Wipe, probably by a different name. It was awkward at first, but w/ practice, it does the job well enough. Note though, I used wet wipes, not wads & wads of TP! Also I lost those 35 extra pounds in 2023 & no longer need the device. Hopefully this will continue though out 2024 & I'll be almost at my original goal! As for the Comfort Wipe, there is definitely a niche for it, & it DOES help clean areas one can't reach for whatever reason.

I'm amazed at the MyPillow did as well as it did because they had come out with the same type of pillow that had cut up pieces of memory foam that had one side of it that was hard, Florida sort of like a rind. Before the my pillow guy came out with a different color on his pillow, these pillows had some sort of bamboo cloth cover and they weren't touting the memory foam pillow as much as they were touting the bamboo cover. But I tried the precursor of the my pillow and I tried to my pillow at the friend's house and I tried the Five Below and I dearly love it simply because it didn't cost me the original price of $79 or all of the $10 reduction increments, I think I saw it somewhere for 39.

After a few weeks of bending and stretching in stiff denim pants, I ordered a pair of pajama jeans thinking if they were a bad product I could just wear them around the house. It turned out that they fit my curvy frame well and were SO comfortable! I wore those pants to work and got compliments on them. Soon several other ladies at my job were wearing them also. They were easy to move in and pretty durable, as they were still in decent shape after the two years I worked there. I may have to see if they make yoga pants because I'm a stay at home mom now!
