The problem with Starfield is the things NPCs asks you to do would only make sense in a medieval setting. Those "talk to [person]" quests where you travel to another planet, talk to [person], then travel back to the 1st planet, would only make sense in a future where phones somehow don't exist.

as someone who put over 200 hours into starfield and went through the unity all 10 times i can tell you safely that starfield is the shittiest game i’ve ever played

I feel the System Shock remake doesnt get enough praise for how faithful it is yet brings a new experience with a newer engine and great care to detail. One of my favorite immersive sims ever

I don't know how he can talk about System Shock without at least mentioning that it was the precursor to the BioShock series

i didnt expect robocop to be so much fun, moving around slowly ( since you're robocop) i was kinda worried about it, but the game plays very well, the graphics are great, the recreation of police station is great, and the way they captured the chaos and anarchy in the city is insanely well done, overall a very solid game worth being on the list, im glad you guys agree too !

I see that the best was saved for last. Barotrauma is an absolute gem of a game, that never fails to entertain me. With friends it is one of the most hilarious and fun videogame experiences.

As someone who has been playing video games for 30+ years, I can honestly say that Starfield is a massive achievement and one of the most unique gaming experiences of ALL TIME. Y'all need to stop regurgitating the "popular" opinions of just shitting on everything that isn't an immediate 10/10. There is no room for nuance anymore, games have a 24-48 hr window to impress the terminally online miserable children and make an impression. After that, the internet collectively decides whether it's the greatest game every made or a complete pile of trash. Apparently, no one can admit that some games are just decent; and there is nothing wrong with that. But there is no possible way I played over 250+ hours of a completely terrible experience. I respect my free time more than that, and if a game doesn't hook me I don't force myself to play it. I've played every Elder Scrolls and Fallout game. I knew what to expect going in and got even more than what I initially wanted. We saw this same attitude when Cyberpunk 2077 released originally, then all of a sudden the DLC drops and the consumers went from "game is dogshit, CDPR lied to us, it's nothing like GTA" to "OMG THIS IS SIMPLY THE GREATEST GAME EVER CREATED." Ironically, I also thought very highly of Cyberpunk 2077 on initial release because I wasn't stupid enough to purchase it on a last gen console, instead I invested in hardware that could actually play the game and had an almost bug free experience on my first 2 play-throughs long before they patched anything significant. We are spoiled rotten, and when every single game doesn't surpass the last one we played.....we immediately jump to negative conclusions and prevent ourselves from actually experiencing the game because we would rather have everyone on the internet "approve" of our game choices. It's honestly exhausting, because most of the time I feel like people actively search for things to hate on. What an absolutely terrible way to live life, never appreciating anything for what it is, and only hating on it for what it isn't. No real opinions, no accountability, and just following the hivemind of what everyone else thinks instead of forming our own opinions. But hey, if the famous streamers and youtubers said it......IT MUST BE TRUE, RIGHT? /s

@@EmKayBass Cyberpunk opinions changed way before the DLC dropped. I've also been playing games for over 30 years, and Starfield was not good. It was not bad, but it wasn't good. Based on Bethesda's track record (minus Fallout 76), Starfield is a big miss. Also, jumping the the conclusion that I haven't played the game and am regurgitating hot takes from KZread is just lazy. You're gonna need to come to terms with the fact that Starfield isn't a good game in many people's eyes. Having done basically all the content in the game, it makes me wonder if you've actually played another game besides FO76.

Bg3 is a generational game that will be talked about for years for me. I put it with chrono trigger, kotor, and witcher 3 in terms of how a game can change how certain types of role-playing will be done in the future. It's amazing an one of the best games ever made.

The best game I haven’t seen on any list would be Shadow Gambit, the cursed crew. Top down tactical stealth game.

Dave the Diver was one of the few single player games in years i actually stayed up late playing. Despite having all the characteristics of grindy games I don't like yet because of it's charm and the way it's broken up and each activity supports others. The timing of how it introduces everything is just excellent. The boss fights were way too easy, stupid easy but other than that if you want a change of pace i'd recommend Dave the Diver even if you generally are turned off by singleplayer games.

No one will probably see this, but as far as I know and have researched, cocoon is NOT made by Playdead, the developers of inside and Limbo, but is developed by a new studio and published by Annapurna Interactive, the same company who’s published Outer Wilds, Stray, What remains of Edith Finch, 12 minutes etc. This isn’t really important but I just thought I should put this out there.

I wanted to like it bc I liked jet set radio back in the day but it just isn't as good as jet set for me, and it seems a good amount of people agreed. People who are bigger fans of jet set might enjoy it more tho.

Guys please try Laika: Aged through Blood. It's a bullet time, biking based shooter that has some insane art, amazing melancholic music and a touching story It's an indie game and could be done in a few hours. Please don't miss it and more people need to hear about the game.

People jumped on that “I hate Diablo IV” bandwagon with the same intensity that people jumped on that “I hate Avatar” bandwagon. But that’s just people for you. People are weird.

Shame that no room at the Inn for Lords of the Fallen....i'm only 30 hours in and its excellent...great homage to FromSoft games like Dark Souls. Throw in a few unique mechanics like the umbral realm and a few patches later from a dedicated dev team who add new quests, fixes, spells etc.....truly epic game.

I played Expeditions Rome and Suzerain last year and they were both beyond great. Really suggests anyone who likes historical settings and love having multiple endings. I honestly find few games mentioned in @gameranx that are like that, following you guys for around a year now

The best thing about Hogwarts is that you don't need to know a single thing about Harry Potter to enjoy it. It was very well done indeed.

I mean yes, the last mission is bad and the story fails to explain the central plot element to any decent degree, but other than that, the game is solid.

They have been the most vocal about it and i find it strange that the gaming community ignored issues cause it was Bethesda but as soon as it wasnt on Playstation the bugs/content were no longer able to be ignored 😂

#1 most Major change with the DeadSpace Remake that people who didn't play the original DIDN'T know, and the #1 reason this is such a major change to the game, is that Isaac Clarke... DIDN'T HAVE A VOICE in the original! He was the mute protagonist! They had to not only bring in the original Voice Actor from DeadSpace 2 and 3 to do lines, but all of the other characters had to have their dialogs rehashed to respond to a now NON-silent protagonist. What they did to make this game, other than what Falcon mentions - the continuous, single ship experience - along with upgraded sound, upgraded graphics, certain elements were changed. Like the Hunter fight... that thing kept popping up hunting you in room after room after room, and you had to TRAP it in an engine test room and flame the sucker instead of just get your timing right on a console. I'd go so far as to say the original game was harder! Then they added collectables and side stories and... this is just generally an AWESOME remake, and I hope they give the same business to DeadSpace 2, which in my opinion was superior to the original Deadspace 1.

I'm playing it for the first time, and I love it, but those damn stutters man.

To each their own, but most of these were really disappointing or just bad imo.

The mortal Kombat story is amazing and this one is no exception imo. its actually insane, the year the games take place seem weird because you have modern shit mixed with ancient tradition due to the Tournament. its not that bad. its actually the modern earth but you have an ancient monk society that knows about the tournament so they keep traditions and keep training to defeat outworld in, Mortal Kombat!

I’m looking forward to playing all of these games. My backlog!

Majority of triplea game's that release in 2023 lack good optimization but later fixed but one game I think that I faced no issues is Resident Evil 4 remake

Battlebit remastered. The best fps of the decade

i've said this before but i really wanted to get into Baldur's Gate 3, i can definitely see a great game there but the combat is too difficult even on Easy difficulty, i get wiped out so easily (i'll have to experiment with different builds)

Bums me out to see Against the Storm not mentioned in hardly any of the conversations about PC games. It's currently Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam with 18k+ reviews, I'd love to see it be in more conversations. Wonderful gem of a dark fantasy, rogue-like city builder. The 30 games listed are great, but hot damn if Against the Storm doesn't deserve to be in lists like these.

He mentioned a lot of mid games and excluded some way better games. When u look at review scores for many of the games on the list, there's a fair amount of games like Against the Storm that he never mentioned, while mentioning games like the 75ish Robocop or 71ish Avatar instead. My guess is he's not into city builders and some other genres of games, so he just left them out or maybe never even thought about them, instead adding some mid games to the list. Ready or Not, Slay the Princess, Ugly, HiFi Rush, Vernal Edge, Gravity Circuit, Blood West, Jusant, Turbo Overkill; all these games also scored higher than tons of the games on this list and they're all excluded for more mediocre titles

Probably because that's what it is, a city builder. When your competition consists of huge first person shoots and rpgs, a 30 dollar clash of clans reproduction isn't gonna cut it.

I have no issues with Starfield being ON the list. I just think it should be lower-tier, considering the amount of caveats it automatically brings with it. I enjoyed playing it, on a number of levels. But I also had plenty of negative things to say about it, not the least of which is that when I finished an initial playthrough and about half of a NG+ playthrough...I was just bored. It's aggressively mediocre, and especially forgettable, in comparison to every other game on this list that I've personally played. To sidestep a bit...I feel the EXACT same way about Hogwart's Legacy, in pretty much every respect. Neither of those games is going in my top 10, or maybe even top 20, of the year. That said...Baldur's Gate as #1 is definitely an easy and accurate choice. Larian outdid themselves, and I can't say enough good about this title...it's 99% perfect.

Aliens: Dark Descent deserves at least a mention. It´s one of the most inovative strategies in years. I will just tell myself, that Falcon purposely forgot that, because as a bird is scared of tight corridors.

I would love to see more indie games included, I think Slay the Princess or Oxenfree II were great!

Besides those games i recommend to play Atlas Fallen. I loved that game.

There's a few games on here that I would have replaced for bomb rush cyberpunk for. If there's any game that was underrated last year is that.

D4 has no endgame. Starfield has no rover. Gameranx has no standards

As a person who couldn't tell Hermione from hemorrhoids in Harry Potter, thanks for remembering my GOTY Hogwarts Legacty. Amazing game that got lost in the GOTY discussions unfairly, imo.

I forgot Mirage even came out. Even the VR one stands out more.

Alan Wake 2 is my game of the year by far, what Remedy have created is just beautifully crafted from the links to the first game and Control and how everything relates to Finnish folklore it just gets better the more you look into it. Lets face it the Herald of Darkness mission is the best level of any game released in the last year :D

Maybe next year, release this video a few days before Steam's Winter Sale is over? Just a suggestion. Love the channel.

The finals is fun sure but also it is really only fun if you play with people you know...otherwise the game is just another free online FPS...I still do suggest it though cause it is fun with how destructive the game is

Hogwarts Legacy is my top game of the year. Been waiting for this kind of game since I was a kid reading the books for the first time. The world is so detailed, the combat is fun, map is huge and you have the room of requirements as a nice bonus. I can see myself playing this game over and over before the next installment comes out. Finger crossed for expansions/new content.

Avatar frontier of Pandora is one of the most gorgeous and engaging games of this year, truly a must-try for everyone

Very slow start to be honest, took 5 hours to pick up steam, but once you start flying etc very cool and really opens up!
