Alright guys! I wanted to share with you some of my likes and dislikes about this bike so far. It's really a great bike, but every bike has its flaws. I am sure there are some things I may have missed but as time goes on and I ride the bike more, I will have a better assessment.

@@itsmeericb you should join our group on Facebook bud. You'll find a wealth of knowledge there. I can also help you personally with tuning etc. I help run the group, while there are a few groups, you'll be looking for the owners forum. The picture is one of our members mid corner on a track. You can DM me here or there on Facebook "Alex filliez" if you want any further info with it. As far as your throttle goes, you need to have the suspension properly tuned for you so that when you hit bumps it doesn't affect the throttle. That is occurring because your compression and rebound arwnr ser up properly. No getting rid of thr "on offness" though. Another thing you can do is install a progressive throttle cam though that isn't my preference. Let me know if you have any questions. I work on these bikes and help members around the world with various project or issues. Cheers.

I own a 2012 RC8R and I would say it's actually a very easy bike to ride. The power curve is smooth and the handling is light and sharp, with no hint of instability, despite me ragging the t*ts off it and attempting to lift the front down shite, bumpy British country lanes. No, there's not rider aids and the engine braking turns the throttle into an on/off switch, but that's the nature of old school big V-Twin sports bikes. It's not happy in heavy traffic, but an Oberon billet clutch slave and a 2 teeth larger rear sprocket helps a lot. Still gets unpleasantly hot in summer, but it wasn't designed as a city commuter and isn't an issue once you get the chance to use it at close (Officer) to the speeds the motor and chassis were designed to operate at. It has a relatively roomy riding position and a genuine 90lbs/ft of torque at 7,000rpm that makes it forgiving of gear selection on twisty roads. The brakes are still ace too.

the rc8 is the best bike i ever had.i drove her more than 50000km and had very little trouble (waterpump shaft seal, brake disk rivets worn, fork seals). i ripped 2 chains, one after only 8000km. since then i have no more sprocket cover. since this is my 10th bike i have some experience in maintenance and don't complain about the effort. she is the most forgiving bike i ever had: i drove her with 250kmh on a german motorway over a hilltop in a bend and when the front wheel touched down there was just one little shake, nothing scary. and i have no steering damper(for better handling). she is perfect for long distance travel if one has no big luggage. ktm must have put a lot of research in the shape of a human backside, because the seat is as soft as a pile of bricks. after 1100km of national and back roads with only fuel and coffee brakes i could have done another 500. the most ridiculous thing on the bike is the rear seat. i had 2 times a girl as a pinion passenger and neither enjoyed it. so, i made a little clip on stainless tray to strap on luggage. when i bought the bike i went through the long list of chassis settings and set everything to max comfort after that she was perfect. the 280kmh that ktm stated are for real: i drove 140 km in just under half an hour and the return run gave the same result. the worst thing that can happen is getting stuck in city traffic: the minimum driveable speed is 20kmh. she is definitely no commuter bike.

  • @itsmeericb

Hey that’s awesome! Yes they did a good job on this monster and every bike is gonna have some sort of flaw. The rear seat is ugly so I took mine off and it looks way better. Even removed the rear foot pegs to clean it up.

I did over 200 miles in a day on a trip to Scotland on my 2012 8R with only petrol, piss and a single food stop. I'm 6'5" and suffered no aches and pains and could have continued for many more miles. People used to joke about the Arse-C-ache due to KTM's long established practice of adding F all of naff all padding to their seats, but the RC8/R seat is actually pretty comfy for hundreds of miles once you get over the initial feeling of sitting on a wooden bench. It offers support, rather than you sinking into it and becoming numb and uncomfortable. If there were luggage mounting options I reckon you could do a European tour on it easy, then strip the luggage and have fun on the racetracks in between destinations. And quite why no other superbike has adopted the adjustable ergonomics is beyond me.

Mine just went into the shop for an engine rebuild as a 2nd gear tooth chipped off when I dumped the clutch to do a wheelie. I literally just got the Jester 68 exhaust for it and didnt even get to put it on yet. I'd be happy to send you a video of the bike with the exhaust when its running if you are having a hard time choosing the right one. Swapped a new engine into mine in a day without too much headache. I reccomend getting a metal fuel quick disconnect as the plastic ones break easily. If you're still looking, the RC8R is a safer bet than the original 8 in terms of reliability. The early RC8 tended to spend more time at the dealers than ridden, with problems ranging from water pump seals and clutch slave leaks to incorrectly machined cylinder heads and stripped gears. The 2011+ twin spark model addressed a lot of issues. I've owned my 2012 8R for ten years. I've suffered a couple of minor electrical issues but zero mechanical problems. I do my own fluid changes and there's never been a trace of visible metal swarf in the filter or screen mesh (dry sump) and it has never burned a drop of oil in 26,000 miles.

Got a 2014 with 3900 miles on it early last year. Akro pipe and tuned. I've ridden/raced about everything you can think of. The only bike that had the same kind of telepathic feeling to the steering, was my TZ250U. Surprisingly comfortable compared to almost any other Supersport bike, except the seat, and incredible throttle to engine feel. I can't stand electronics, as it makes me feel disconnected from what's going on with the bike. Sadly, was taken out by a left-turner last summer, so the bike has been waiting for parts since then. Fortunately it didn't damage the frame or forks, but all the bodywork, gauge, bars, etc. were trashed. Some parts are no longer available new, so it's been a rough go trying to find what I need to put it back on the road. Hoping by April it will run again. Don't sell it if you can help it. They only made 8000 globally, and supposedly only 300 came to the US. Unicorn.

I'd actually choose the KTM over my Honda Africa Twin 1100 for distance if it weren't for the lack of practicality and luggage mounts. The whole video to look at and people keep asking about my bars. 😂 They are not crooked. It’s the camera angle, but who knows maybe one of the clip ons are crooked. 🤷‍♂️😂 I’ll have to double check it whenever I go back home and take it out of storage.

idk why but your clutch lever seems a bit too high for your hand, it seems like you're reaching for it and not just grabbing it...

I think they could have sold more if it came with the single sided swingarm

I think they would have sold more if they had fixed the issues with the original 8 before they made it to (often uncaring) dealers. Thankfully the snatchy throttle, reluctance to change gear and the tendency to eat water pump impellers and seals every thousand kilometres or so were pretty much fixed on the 2011 R. Mostly... The shift on mine only really loosened up around 20k miles. I'd say the ratios could have spent more time in the oven in comparison to the closer ratios on my former 2003 Mille R.
