Very on point! Dear Lexus! Better listen up! 3 row, should be optional on every trim. Locker and E-KDSS should be available on most trims, like how the Toyota "TRD Off-Road" package is much better than the "TRD Pro" trim, in many ways -- because sometimes, you just want the essential locker, and not want to pay a premium for a suspension you're going to swap out anyways. Locker, E-KDSS, and 3rd row are essential features!

Bought my GX for its reliability, capability in adverse conditions (I live on the side of a mountain where people routinely cant get to my road in the winter, and routinely drive unmaintained roads), capability to tow a small trailer, and 3rd row for kids and hauling people. Also used GXs in my area are cheaper and in better condition than 4runners selling for more then new msrp. Hopefully I wont have to look at another vehicle anytime soon with only 80k miles on mine. Maybe in 10 years, we will see. My wife does a lot more commuting for her job, and we dont travel in her vehicle so any vehicle for her just needs to be capable of getting up and down the mountain and have decent gas mileage, with 20k+ mileage a year, that makes a big difference. Since I don't commute for my job so the gas mileage on the GX doesn't bother me, with my previous car being a subaru GT wagon with similar gas mileage specs and premium requirements. Plus on long trips the GX still gets 22/23 MPG so not bad at all.

I think because the Prado is supposed to come to the US in 2024 or 2025 Toyota is splitting the customer. You probably will see those features in the way you speak of in the Prado. 3 rows, KDSS, 4 cylinder/ V6 option, and so on. Like you said most GX owners do not know what they have. I own a 2022 GX and 2023 4Runner TRD Off Road with KDSS. There are things in the GX I wished the 4Runner had and things the 4Runner has that I wished the GX had. Yet in Australia the Prado has everything both truck have. I only bought the GX because it was the only way to get a Prado like truck in the US. Love the heck out of both trucks. As a son of a mechanic that DIYs since childhood, these were the last trucks running old drivetrain tech that does not breakdown. The new trucks will not have this reliability because the physics and engineering will not let them last 30 to 40 years and 500,000 miles. Too complicated to maintain at a reasonable cost even for a non DIY. How do I know this, because Toyota put a 4.0 V6 from the 4Runner in the Land Cruiser 300 that has to work in countries with inhospitable environments. Not the twins turbo 3.5 V6 they are using the US for the GX/LX. If anyone knows the engineer Japaneese guy with the KZread channel and AMD from Car Care Nut channel. They are all ready talking about Toyota/Lexus moving forward making these thing less durable for cost and weight savings. This decade is the cut off to get those Toyota/Lexus that last a lifetime.

So the only GX 550 that is really capable of going "off road" is the overtrail trim? All the the prior GX trims are off road capable! even the base model. So the premium, premium+ and the Luxury and luxury+ are just going to have the looks but not the real capability? Of the 4 trims P, P+. Australia’s market as compared to the US market who Toyota sells their products comprise mostly of mining and agricultural industries. Makes me wonder if that had something to do with cancelling the LC in the US. The 4Runner is not based on the GX. Never has been. Jesus. Most overlanders delete the third row, remove or, or complain that they can't get rid of it. I have a family, drive a landcruiser, overland, and gave away my third row seats. Toyota was smart enough to know that a center locker and atrac is more than enough for 90+% of Gx buyers. Seems like someone had to made a contrarian video I guess. It worked. I clicked. Dammit.

to the contrary, the GX has *ALWAYS* had 3 rows... since 2004. So does the Prado, so does the Landcruiser 300. It has traditionally always had 3 rows... only this oddball trim in the US market deletes the 3rd row.

@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD yes except the Lexus has never offered an off road specific trim before, that was for Toyota, and Lexus has previously only offered 7 passengers, is only sold in North America, and made sure that 4Runner stopped offering 7 passengers. Now Toyota will bring back the Land Cruiser as the LC240 and will likely both offer 5 & 7 passengers. Prado, 200, & 300 have been offered in some markets as 5 passenger cars before. The 112" wheel base is not a good 7 passenger platform anyways. For about the same money the new Sequoia is better in many ways. When off roaders buy old GX's the first thing they do is rip out the third row. Removing that seat during manufacturing reduces purchasing cost, and complexity, increases payload, and interior volume, and satisfies the vast majority of the specific target market for that trim. It also makes it easier for Lexus dealers to understand their product line. I am sure that many Lexus customers have left the mark before because they didn't want the third row. Now they have a vehicle for that client. Large dog owners are a specific customer for 5 passenger versions. The Premium and Luxury will be way more capable than any previous GX. If you want the off road look change the wheels and tires.

So the only GX 550 that is really capable of going "off road" is the overtrail trim? All the the prior GX trims are off road capable! even the base model. So the premium, premium+ and the Luxury and luxury+ are just going to have the looks but not the real capability? Of the 4 trims P, P+. I 100% agree with all points.
Agreed. I would say the only reason why Prado is not in the US is simply because, and generally speaking of cause, overlooking that fact that the US costumer base have a complex with the word “Toyota” being a luxury vehicle, the US market is different to other markets like Australia. Australia’s market as compared to the US market who Toyota sells their products comprise mostly of mining and agricultural industries. However in the US you guys in Toyota’s books are not a big enough customer base so they would prefer to sell you a few wanabe “Land Cruisers” and a Land Cruiser with high heels under the Lexus skirt, keep ing yo’ll distracted enough to offload your hard earnings while charging you an arm, leg and a kidney for the experience. If enough of you guys rally and stick it to Toyota, they will listen. Vote with your wallets/purse’s. Great content!
Not happy with Lexus on this. No E KDSS with 3 row seating option. Will stick with my 2020.
Imo...Toyota got their 'wires crossed up', so to speak, by "overpricing" the Land Cruiser to begin with and having the Sequoia in the lineup. The Sequoia is the larger vehicle, but was priced below the LC. That's a big pill to expect your customers to swallow...especially now with the redesigned Sequoia. Makes me wonder if that had something to do with cancelling the LC in the US. Btw....if you want to know if someone's an actual overlander or a mere poseur...just simply ask them to show you their turd hole digging shovel.
I Still disagree! Lol. How many people go "overlanding with a family of six? Be real, not many. The vast majority of people that will buy the overtrail don't have a use for the 3 row seat! They are thousands of 3 row seats from the first generation for sale for that reason, tje first thing people take of is the 3 row seats! In the gx460, they fold flat but take a lot of space and are heavy, for people that need a 3 row they can buy the luxury trims that have it! The overtrail is perfect as it is!

The people's ratio tjat take a family of six overlanding, compared to the most common 2 or 3 crew is probably 10 to 1. Also, for the family guy, there is the other model, you know!.

Also, that third row is heavy. Removal helps negate the extra weight of sliders and bigger tires.
LOL. I guess overlanders don't have families. Its all single dudes. 3rd row is essential for us.

great point!
I don't care about a 3rd row. I will be in line to pick one up as soon it is available. The Over Trail is a home run and Lexus will undoubtedly sell every one they make. I see the GX 550 as a direct competitor to the Range Rover. It will find a home wealthy suburbs across the United States.......and will offer Lexus reliability that Land Rover can only dream of.
I agree! Good points. The third row delete on the Overtrail was a bad idea.
I don’t care anything about a third row the issue is the turbo v6. It will never last like the naturally aspirated v8 460. Also, the transmission will gear hunt constantly.

I love the 3rd row missing. Waste the space and weight plus less soccer moms will get it.
I'm thinking a lot market research went into GX550 design, I'm thinking Lexus wants to shake "soccer mom" image of the GX460, the rugged looks of GX550 is that statement, think about it, the type of buyer in GX price range is older, think generation-X, Gen-X doesn't want a Corvette, Gen-X wants a GX, a vehicle with engineering you can actually use, provides a sense of travel security, the GX550 buyer wants to be a hero, how many models on the market have that heroic vibe?? Very valid point. The "aggressive" design also hints towards that goal... just give us the option of a 3rd row seat 😢 😭 😿
Here in Australia, most FWD owners remove the third row (even all or part of the second row too) for overlanding / off road. So from the Australian perspective, not having a third row is a cost saving bonus! And the less off road / overlanding specific GX 550s do have the third row. So really, this seem an ideal range for the model.

Excellent opinions! Several of us have chosen to remove the 3rd row in order to custom fit our overlanding gear. The cool thing is that we CHOOSE to do it. I no longer have dependents in my household so it’s just my wife and I. Customization is important to many enthusiasts.

It worked. I clicked. Dammit.
@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD

The 4runner has ALWAYS been a GX/Landcruiser Prado with features removed. At least the 4th gen onward 4runner. There's like 90 trims of 5th gen 4runner... want them all? Get a GX
The EKDSS may give it the best articulation of IFS but it’s definitely not going to match that of the solid front axle of the jeep
In the United States, families that have 4 or more children come in at just 6%. Third row delete doesn't affect that many families.
Jeep wranglers are also in the 60s, so they are not cheaper, the ones that look good at least
It doesn't need a third row. If you want 3 rows get a Premium or Luxury trim or buy a Land Rover. The GX OverTrail competes with 4Runner, Grand Cherokee, G-wagons, Grenadiers, and the new LC240 etc. It does not compete with a Wrangler or the Bronco!

to the contrary, the GX has *ALWAYS* had 3 rows...

Not everybody needs the seating of a van. But everyone would enjoy the extra storage where the seats store. 5 comfortable seats is enough. I used my 3rd row in my Discovery 1 time in 3 years.
So happy, no 3rd row, need room for my stuff.
I don't want a 3rd row. But, I don't like this with 2 row because you're nowhere near "flat" back there with the 2nd row folded. I need a flat loading floor.

I think they couldn't fit third row seating, laying flat, while having the full size 33in off road tire

There's no difference in the actual body between GX550 trims... ie you can stuff 33s in all trims... the other trims get larger diameter wheels to "make up" the wheel well space
I love the missing 3rd row. I hate 3rd rows. Most people don’t have 7-8 people to take off roading. If you have a 3rd rom of 7-8 people in your truck off roading, where you putting all their stuff? You need to bring 2 trucks for 7-8 people.
I hate 3rd row because it affects trunk capacity.
I don't want a third row. I prefer it with only 2 rows
Your 3rd row is NOT flat. It is on a raised platform. You do lose space!
@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD

they lay flat. Even slightly lower than the 2nd row seats when the 2nd row is also folded flat. As stated in the video, the space gained does not outweigh the lost utility. If someone is that hard-core of an overlander and needs to travel with an entire house inside their GX, they will remove the second row seats as well and gut everything... But that's just my 2 cents 😉 😜
The more comparable comparison with this vehicle is the Land Rover Defender and not the Jeep.
3rd row useless can't fit any one comfortably leave it out the 4runner did get a bigger truck
turns out that toyota did the survey and families weren´t buying the gx.....so third row wasn´t needed. main buyers were business men and that´s another reason they left the lexus instead of the landcruiser
