Top 3 Embroidery Slow Stitches -Textile Art Crow Collage
Can you believe this textile piece full of texture and colour was created using only three stitches? It's true! Join me Start to Finish as I show the versatility of my Top 3 essential Embroidery Stitches for Slow Stitching. I also show a different way to cut out a shape (in this case a crow) with clean edges. As a Bonus - I answer the question, "What do you do with these pieces?" by demonstrating a way to display textile art on canvas. Feel free to stitch along with me! There's loads of detail and insight. See the Chapter timestamps below so you can hop around.

I really like your project and the video too, but I would like to make one small suggestion, that it might be better to call the stitches by their more universally known names (running stitch, blanket stitch, seed stitch, and backstitch) so as not to confuse. I mean this in kindness. Again, I do really like the project you made and the techniques you demonstrate.

I think she has used the traditional names. The names ‘wandering stitch’ is what she is doing with them rather than the name of the actual stitch.

Very lovely and lovely stitches. Somehow I missed how you stitched the bird legs and feet. 😊
@peaceofpi-studio
9 ай бұрын
Thank you! To stitch the feet I used the back stitch and 2 strands of embroidery floss. An erasable marker can be used to draw the legs and claws before stitching or if using a template with legs, the template can be brought back, put in place and the legs can be traced/outlined and then stitched. 😊🧵🪡

Would wax paper work instead of freezer paper?
@peaceofpi-studio
Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t use wax paper. It would melt under the iron and make a big mess I think. The great thing about freezer paper is that one side is paper, so safe to touch the iron.
Freezer paper? Can that replace sulky for any projects? I do a lot of work with felt.
@peaceofpi-studio

I like using freezer paper for fabric and felt. Test it on felt first - iron lightly. When you peel the freezer paper off it can distort some thinner types felt.

What stitch did you use for the crows legs, thank you.
@peaceofpi-studio

I used straight stitches. Also the back stitch is great for lines/legs. I used 2 strands of floss. The legs can be drawn in with erasable marker before stitching which really helps.

What size of needle do you use?
@peaceofpi-studio
Жыл бұрын
I get the gold eye embroidery needle pack (No. 3-9) by Clover and use the smallest eye that fits my thread. I usually use 2 strands of the 6 strand floss so the middle size of this pack works well.
Did I miss where you added the legs??
@peaceofpi-studio
Жыл бұрын
You didn’t miss it😊 I didn’t include it because this video is focused on the 3 stitches. I stitch bird legs in some of my other videos though. Here’s one: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pqps2q9uXZSsk6Q.html
I have such a problem making my stitches uniform. Do you worry about that?
@peaceofpi-studio
Жыл бұрын
I don’t worry about it. I used to but I decided to let it go and it’s been very freeing for my work. Even still I don’t think my stitches are very straight or even while others see them as very even! I think uneven hand sewing adds a lot of life and authenticity 😊🧵🪡
Your wandering stitch looks across but comes out north to south...???
@peaceofpi-studio
3 ай бұрын
The back of the north south stitches would often be horizontal depending on where the stitches wander from and to. Many of the wandering stitches are wonky leaning one way or the other. It’s very freeform😊
Your work is pretty but you are working too fast for people to see shat you are doing. Can you slow down or use some darker thread to see his you are doing it on a sample. Maybe do a sample piece on white with dark thread then put together your actual piece.
