Michael Gerard Tyson (born June 30, 1966) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1985 to 2005. Nicknamed "Iron Mike" and "Kid Dynamite" in his early career, and later known as "The Baddest Man on the Planet", Tyson is considered to be one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time.[6] He reigned as the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990. Tyson won his first 19 professional fights by knockout, 12 of them in the first round. Claiming his first belt at 20 years, four months, and 22 days old, Tyson holds the record as the youngest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title. He was the first heavyweight boxer to simultaneously hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles, as well as the only heavyweight to unify them in succession. The following year, Tyson became the lineal champion when he knocked out Michael Spinks in 91 seconds of the first round. In 1990, Tyson was knocked out by underdog Buster Douglas in one of the biggest upsets in history.
In 1992, Tyson was convicted of rape and sentenced to six years in prison, although he was released on parole after three years. After his release in 1995, he engaged in a series of comeback fights, regaining the WBA and WBC titles in 1996 to join Floyd Patterson, Muhammad Ali, Tim Witherspoon, Evander Holyfield and George Foreman as the only men in boxing history to have regained a heavyweight championship after losing it. After being stripped of the WBC title in the same year, Tyson lost the WBA title to Evander Holyfield by an eleventh round stoppage. Their 1997 rematch ended when Tyson was disqualified for biting Holyfield's ears, one bite notoriously being strong enough to remove a portion of his right ear. In 2002, Tyson fought for the world heavyweight title, losing by knockout to Lennox Lewis.
Tyson was known for his ferocious and intimidating boxing style as well as his controversial behavior inside and outside the ring. With a knockout-to-win percentage of 88%, he was ranked 16th on The Ring magazine's list of 100 greatest punchers of all time,[14] and first on ESPN's list of "The Hardest Hitters in Heavyweight History". Sky Sports described him as "perhaps the most ferocious fighter to step into a professional ring". He has been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.

Down Goes Frazier!
No matter what people say about Mike's era of boxing, the fact that he faced off against legit heavyweights who towered over and massively outweighed him, and regularly threw them across (and sometimes out) of these rings with nothing but his fists, can never be taken from him.

Not only much bigger than him, but Mike was only 20 when he won the world title which means most of his opponents had alot more experience! I remember watching Tyson fights in 80s when I was a kid and it always felt like Tyson was a big heavyweight even though he's only like 5'11. He fought a guy who's 6'2-6'5 but once the fight started, Tyson just look as big as his opponent because he closed the gap so quickly and throwing punches from all angles.

@@robnhood1416 "Tyson looked as big as his opponent because he closed the gap so quickly..." Which is ironic because his squat posture actually made him even shorter. But yeah once he closed that gap and leapt into someone's jaw, it didn't matter how tall they were when they're face down.

Tyson fights were like nothing before or since. You did NOT miss his fights even though you knew they might only last a few minutes because you knew you were witnessing greatness. A legend for the ages.
He’s got powerful punches true, but what amazes me is his mobility, speed, and technique. You throw a punch at Tyson you just get your jaw jacked after he slips and plants his foot his foot on the other side of you(all before you even recover the first punch).

I don't know much about boxing, but I do know this. Mike Tyson in his prime would have done well in any era of boxing. Who would be dumb enough to get in the ring with Kid Dynamite? His fists are like thunder and lightning. 🥊⚡🥊🌩️ So fast, you won't have time to react. So powerful, you won't stand. Street fighter, raw talent! !
That left hook was absolutely amazing. You could see they planned for it, but there was nothing they could do to stop it!
This is what happens when you have an old school trainer working with a lost kid with great athleticism and strength but no direction. Ppl say Tyson was great and he is. Maybe the best heavy weight of all time but he would have been in prison or dead if Cus didn’t save him and train him into the monster he became. They loved each other and it shows. Tyson is passionate while beating your face in.
Mike tyson was one of the greatest
I love his head movement
I remember seeing that Reggie gross fight as a kid and I’ve never forgotten it. That was something rlse
Mike Tyson life story is epic like Iliad...
His footwork and head movement were other worldly, and his power was astonishing. Lightning quick too. I never get sick of watching his highlights. I wish I could've been alive during his prime, Ali too.
I don't know shit about boxing but I love watching Mike Tyson knock someone out and then help them back up and make sure they're okay.
Many overlook a key fact about Mike Tyson's career: despite being shorter with a shorter reach in every heavyweight bout, he wielded significant advantages in boxing against all odds. Typically, height and reach favor the taller and longer fighter, granting them the ability to control the fight with jabs and maintain distance. Yet, Tyson defied these odds, consistently maneuvering inside longer reaches to dictate the pace and control of his fights. This feat parallels a point guard consistently posting up and dominating power forwards and centers in the paint all game long, a feat that's typically challenging but appeared effortless for Tyson. This little talked about fact only enhanced his greatness
The sheer force and crushing pressure of his blows is unreal.
Thanks for your incredible work 😃
