Indira Ghandi did not create Bangladesh. West Pakistan did. Sometime in the early 1950s, Daultana, as CM Punjab had declared in the Punjab Assembly, that "Punjab will never accept the brute majority of East Bengal". This remark is on record. No one wants to research that. Note, Daultana used the word 'Punjab" as district from the word 'Pakistan'. Note also, he used the word 'East Bengal' not the word Pakistan. What does that indicate? Right from the inception of the country, conditions were being created to alienate East Pakistan from the federation. When the Pakistan government, run by the West Pakistan military, ordered a military crackdown in 1970, to quell protests because power was not being handed over to the democratically victorious Awami League of East Pakistan, Governor of East Pakistan Admiral Ahsan advised against uitsing force . The GOC East Pakistan, Lt.Gen. Sahibzada Yaqub Khan refused to take military action, saying this was a political matter and should be solved politically. He chose to resign. Gen. Tikka Khan replaced him. He ordered a carnage. This action had the population in rebellion. West Pakistan created conditions which made things easy for I ndira Ghandi. So, kindly do not give all the 'credit' of East Pakistan's breakaway to I ndira Ghandi. Much of it is due to West Pakistan' generals, politicians and bureaucrats.

Nails Shareef, ZAB was one of the culprit among many. He acted in defiance on the encouragement and backing of others. He did not carry sufficient weight by himself to trigger E. Pakistan's breakaway.

Excellent analysis and there are some truth in it. Pakistan was doomed at it's inception. Although there are combination of factors but it's the power hungry Pak military junta that created the situations. By the way, East Bengal was renamed East Pakistan in 1955 when Mohammad Ali Bogra was PM of Pakistan.
