FALLON ruined so many sketches. His higher profile (than Horatio Sans) meant he ruined higher profile sketches. I remember great sketches falling apart as they became all about whether Fallon would laugh, as he constantly showed pre-hysteric tremors. I'll grant that Fallon knocked it out of the park at times, but his constant "breaking the wall" by laughing was definitely an indicator he was NOT ready for prime time. He repeatedly broke the cardinal sin, setting him apart in SNL history as possibly the most notorious of the whole bunch. He also get worse at maintaining character over time, perhaps realizing it brought him attention? Vomitus! By comparison, an example of a true professional from that era was Will Ferrell. Love him or hate him, he fought through such hilarious moments - crowd roaring with laughter, himself obviously struggling - but he always held onto a dead-pan face long enough to re-focus - using mental discipline (ahem, Falon take note), resulting in some of the funniest SNL sketches I have ever seen. But if he had broken down, BOOM - whole sketch would have been doomed to the "forgetful" category.
@GregOrCreg

There's something funny about a comedian like Ferrell, who you can tell wants to break down, but battles on, to their credit, through a particularly funny sketch. But Fallon just ruins these sketches entirely with his mugging to the extent that they can't be recovered.

@@twist58 I don't believe Jennifer Aniston ever auditioned for SNL Some sources say that she waa asked to audition, but turned it down - she even goes so far to say that she lectured the great and powerful Lorne about what a "boy's club" SNL had become. But I don't think there was an actual audition. (If anybody can prove it...or point us to the videotape, that'd be great!) I'm not convinced she would have been very good on SNL, at the time hse simply didn't have the right background. Some of those are among my favorites.
If it wasn’t for Victoria Jackson we wouldn’t have got Weird Al’s “Smells Like Nirvana”.
I notice that the most of these cast members went on to have great careers in entertainment. I wouldn't feel too bad that they're the "worst" cast members on SNL. Leaving SNL is a mark of being confident enough to make it in the industry on their own.

I mean Jim Breuer really was horrible. I mean stupid people like stupid things, so, he was moderately successful afterwards, I suppose.
Victoria Jackson was huge on the show when her episodes were airing.......
Horatio Sans is only on this list because of his recent controversy. Sans was hilarious.

Mid to late 80s (into early 90s) was one of the most talented legendary and highest-rated casts ever. Are you on crack?
Holy cow, I almost had a coronary when they said Jim Belushi, because I instantly thought it was John Belushi they were talking about. I was like.... "WHAT THE F.....??!!! ARE YOU JOKING??!! HE'S ONE OF THE BEST CAST MEMBERS IN SAT..............oh wait, that's John Belushi. They said Jim Belushi........yeah....I get that."

Jim Belushi is the Julian Lennon of comedy. No talent and just made it because he was related to a dead legend.

Hot take: I think Jim Belushi was funnier than his brother John. Very little John did was very good, maybe because he was stoned all the time.

Most of the people on this list did gain notoriety and fame through other means. They just didn't perform like most people did.
Janeane Garofolo in "the bathroom monkey" skit is hilarious. "monkey hate clean".
That season where they added all the established stars like Garafalo, Chris Ellliott, Michael McKean and Mark McKinney was weird. It was kinda like the 85 season.

@@royalsfan That WAS odd, wasn't it I just watched the McKean-hosted show tonight. I think McKean could have easily been a Phil Hartman-like presence on the show...had they considered him before....or even after the debacle that was the 1994-05 season. McKean was tremendously talented, and his talent got lost a bit in the inanity of "Lenny", which only goes to PROVE his talent - a really smart guy playing a very dumb guy that convincingly...

I'm not sure anybody would have called Garafalo "established"...and most definitely not a "star". Reality Bites, half a season of The Ben Stiller Show and Larry Sanders...which very few people were watching at the time. The mainstream didn't know who she was... Even McKinney was not that well known here in the U.S. But did you know he had already been announcing on SNL for a decade when he finally became a CM???
Poor Roland Schitt 😂
I didn't know a few of these were ever on there.
You say Jim Belushi wasn’t awful, then why even put him in the worst of all time??? Horatio/Brooks don’t deserve to be on here either. The first Jay Mohr clip with him as Dick vitale is hilarious. Don’t put him on here over petty bullshit. Randy Quaid too? He put in more effort than John Milhiser or that Luke bull guy. You left out a bunch of worthy picks in favor of hot takes.

I actually liked Jim Breuer. I was not a fan of Goat Boy, but I loved his Joe Pesci Show and Wong & Owens: Ex-Porn Stars sketches. Those were amongst my favorite during that era. I was always looking forward to see one of those sketches come back. They were hilarious. He was one of my favorites. Surprised to see him this disliked. Why is he disliked?!
Chris Elliott was popular "before" SNL. Wayans was "In Living Color", a rival to SNL.
That 85-86 season was like a weird performance art play. zero laughs.
Horatio Sanz? Come on now.
Jim Belushi and Rob Riggle i think given a little bit more time on the air is what they needed.

problem with elliot and Garafolo is that theyre competing against a cast that already had stellar characters

What a stupid comment.
Chris Elliot is very funny. The sitcom “Get a Life” is absolutely hilarious.😊
Chris Elliott is an acquired taste and I acquired it way back when he was on "Late Night with David Letterman" as "The Guy Under the Seats" and other characters. Chris is not afraid to display his absurdist sense of humor as he does in his hilarious book "The Shroud of the Thwacker," which spoofs the "Jack the Ripper" murders of Victorian England. He entertains me immensely and I simply feel sorry for those whom his humor is lost on.
18:38 So thats why he let him keep the suit lol
