FALLON ruined so many sketches. His higher profile (than Horatio Sans) meant he ruined higher profile sketches. I remember great sketches falling apart as they became all about whether Fallon would laugh, as he constantly showed pre-hysteric tremors. I'll grant that Fallon knocked it out of the park at times, but his constant "breaking the wall" by laughing was definitely an indicator he was NOT ready for prime time. He repeatedly broke the cardinal sin, setting him apart in SNL history as possibly the most notorious of the whole bunch. He also get worse at maintaining character over time, perhaps realizing it brought him attention? Vomitus! By comparison, an example of a true professional from that era was Will Ferrell. Love him or hate him, he fought through such hilarious moments - crowd roaring with laughter, himself obviously struggling - but he always held onto a dead-pan face long enough to re-focus - using mental discipline (ahem, Falon take note), resulting in some of the funniest SNL sketches I have ever seen. But if he had broken down, BOOM - whole sketch would have been doomed to the "forgetful" category.

There's something funny about a comedian like Ferrell, who you can tell wants to break down, but battles on, to their credit, through a particularly funny sketch. But Fallon just ruins these sketches entirely with his mugging to the extent that they can't be recovered.

19/20 ain't bad, but I can't agree with the assessment of Victoria Jackson. Six years was a great run and her comedy was in line with the rest of the cast. Chris Elliott is an acquired taste and I acquired it way back when he was on "Late Night with David Letterman" as "The Guy Under the Seats" and other characters. Chris is not afraid to display his absurdist sense of humor as he does in his hilarious book "The Shroud of the Thwacker," which spoofs the "Jack the Ripper" murders of Victorian England. He entertains me immensely and I simply feel sorry for those whom his humor is lost on.
