TOP 20 The best chicken breeds for homestead farming, self-sufficient, egg layers and table fowl
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
This video gives you an insight to the amazing world of chicken breeds and includes twenty different breeds, which I have all visited and filmed by myself in the last four years. You will meet dual purpose breeds aswell, as the best egg-layers and the best table fowls. Only the hybrid chicken strains of the industry will not be included, because they are not really true breeds in the traditional definition (And there is no need to give them more upswing).
I think the huge diversity of chicken breeds is amazing and for the novice its not allways totally easy to chose from.
The chicken breeds in this video are:
Swedish Flower chicken (skånsk blommehöna)
Jersey Giants
Cream Legbar
Sandjak Longcrower chicken
Brown Leghorn
Malines (Coucou de Malines chicken)
Orpington
Bielefelder (Kennhuhn)
Vorwerk chicken
Faverolles (Lachshuhn)
Orloff
Araucana (South American Rumpless chicken)
Sulmtaler chicken
Wyandottes
Marans
Bresse Gauloise (Les Bleus)
Welsummer Bantam chicken
Sundheimer chicken
New Hampshire chicken
Exchequer Leghorn chicken
I know there are other breeds existing, which are very good birds for self-sufficiency aswell, such as the Rhode Island Red, the Amrock, the Plymouth Rock or the Australorp, but since I am only using my own footage, I am not able to show breeds in my videos which I never met for filming in the past years.

Hi Sir I am from kerala India your video is very helpful for me very very thanks
Чувствуется с какой любовью Вы относитесь к своим подопечным. Спасибо за видео.
We are happiest with red star and barred rock brown egg layers. The barred rock being just a bit more accepting of humans. I have raised about 150 and more variety and these two have become our favorite for egg layers. I am not against bunting or using the chickens for meat birds. There are many that are better than the red star and barred rock. I don't like to kill anything anymore. I don't even fish. I have had over 1,000 deaths in my long tenure as a firefighter-paramedic. It has affected me. We have poultry for eggs and pets. We have ducks and turkey as well. And a search and rescue dog, the last of my 27, that herds the ducks and keeps the rooster from constantly attacking my daughter. Some of your top twenty I have raised when we also had meat birds. If your flock is small enough you will notice differences between individual birds. Good show. Now, everyone, go out and enjoy your chickens

Love to see chickens free range and living how they should be, foraging and rooting around. Good for the soil too. How nature was intended.

Thank you Robert! Here in America we also have many beautiful breeds available, but I must say that you have some of the most beautiful chickens that I have ever seen. Also, I've never seen or known many of the breeds that you showcased. Wonderful video!

I love your English videos. You speak the language very well
I’m new at this type of stuff; chicken breeding, their eggs and everything, but this seems very interesting. You keep them in a very nice area; looks like they have enough space to wander and eat.
4:14 I laughed so hard, I was totally not expecting a loud bear roar!
Dang that Sanjak longcrower
I couldn’t stop thinking about your neighbors... Excellent video. Thank you

Very beautiful chickens!
beautiful chickens!
Robert, Thank you for this enlightening video. While being familiar with most US chickens I was delighted to learn of so many other breeds apparently only available in Europe. They all looked so healthy and active.
love all these birds
I have chosen, to date, Ameraucana, Ancona, Barnevelder, Bielefelder, Jaerhon, Exchequer Leghorn, Black Copper Marans, Minorca, New Hampshire Red, Buff Orpington, Barred Plymouth Rock, Rhode Island Red, Welsumer, Silver Lace Wyandotte, Easter Egger, Black Australorp, Buckeye and Delaware. Your videos have shown me a wider selection to chose from. Thank you.
Real nice job Robert!
Good work , nice video , I learned a lot about chicken breeds.
Its makes you feel happy 🐱😊
I really enjoyed your footage, you have my greatest respect because I can hardly take a decent photo of my chickens, much less such beautiful scenes. I get a kick out of each of my chickens, they are so individual and interesting. I have had some trouble this year with hawks, it is a challenge to give them freedom and keep them safe.

Pay attention to the crows around you. They make certain warning calls, when a hawk is going to come around. Once you hear it take them in. That's what I do and I have 2 hawks that have our yard as part of their territory. And there's been some times when I got them in a couple minutes before a hawk showed up.
I really enjoyed seeing all the varieties and their beautiful colors! Thank you for taking time to make this video....I love chickens. Yours have a gorgeous environment and are very healthy looking. I was wondering how many chickens you normally have in total?

Great video very educational I would love to raise some Sundheimer's on our farm I hate to hear of breeds becoming extinct that's really sad for something that's been around for so long to suddenly be gone
They are so pretty 😍
You have lot of beautys of flock
Thank yoh robert
I'm happy because the chickens are happy
so cute
Great video, do you have a video on what to feed chickens ?
Thank you Robert for making this fun and informative video, I am a small chicken farmer with a handful of different breeds and I recognize a couple of them through your video... leghorns Americaunas etc , I love my chickens and I am encouraged to increase my flock... I only have 9 and would like to see them all have chicks ...so thanks for the inspiring video :)
Merci
Robert how do you get your chickens to sit next to you and eat from your hand?
excellent collection. How did u collect such huge varieties?
The Wynedotte you said was Columbian we call those “Brahma”. We have some black australorps that have been fantastic. We also have Americaunas who have little gray beards and have been great.
@earth2wendy

Caroline King, Robert Hock knows his poultry and I do not think he is mistaken here. I always look to the comb type to help distinguish the Columbian Wyandotte from the Brahma, Columbian Rock and other breeds with this coloring pattern. Don’t you just love Mr. Hock’s beautiful vids?
@ChloeRosie14
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah they are not Brahma but I think he showed one at the start of the Wyandotte clips but the hens he showed in the field were Colombian Wyandottes
Sir Good Day.. You Have Nice and Good Chicken and Excellent info for laying eggs.. If Theres A Vorverk and lakenvelders and That Black and White leghorn here in Philippines i will buy for a pair. Hope someday.. thanks for the video.. Two Thumbs up for you..
How do you keep your garden beautiful?? I tried to plant something around the coop, my ladies came and wipe it out in less than 30 minutes 😵💫😵💫😵💫
What a real delight to see the show you put on my friend. I appreciate the insights as well. Our Aracauna chickens are probably a mix of the other French breed the favarolles. They are sturdy and disease resistant and tough about living in low maintenance near feral conditions.
