The concept of the Bear in annihilation in itself is disturbing. Mimicking your last victim's screaming for help to lure others to their demise. My god it's terrifying and probably the most brilliant monster design I've seen in decades. Definitely up there with Weeping Angels as my top two scariest fictional monsters.

It was not mimicking. Somehow, when it killed, the victim's DNA got spliced into it including the voice into its growl...maybe the animal could also feel the victim's agony every time the cries came out! Very disturbing indeed....

My dad had a similar experience and keeps telling it to this day. He bought some movie theater tickets for Alien quite some time in advance as it was quickly completely sold out. But then on the day they were supposed to go with my mom, there was a huge storm and it rained for hours. So my mom didn't go, but my dad wanted to see the movie at all costs. When he came to the theater, there were only a handful of people and so by the start of the movie they spread out across the entire sitting area making themselves comfortable. Needless to say by the end of the movie those few people were all sitting next to each other in a small area and my dad said some even had their feet up on the seats. 😆 He said for the next two weeks he always turned the lights on everywhere in every room when he was alone in the house. 😁

Veronica Cartwright. She was also the little girl in "The Birds" and had a large role in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Her job in "Alien" was to act as terrified as possible to make the audience feel terrified, in turn. It sure worked!

The Thing is my "number one" but if I'm being honest...the monster baby from It's Alive scared the crap out of me in 1978. Until I became a parent, it was the only nightmare monster to ever wake me up scared. Built and performed by a very young Rick Baker, btw. 😉
The smile entity has been in recent years one of my most freightened ones, he was so uncomfortably creepy.
I loved seeing Shelob on the list. She creeped me out. And it was exactly what this presentation said that made the scene so great. The tension was built up for some time that Gollum was leading Frodo to his death. Then the slow appearance of Shelob, Frodo's apparent escape, Gollum's attack and apparent death, and then Shelob's silent reapparance, stalking Frodo before her attack. That was masterful. And the way she moved was so spider-like, it almost makes up for this narrator calling her just a giant spider.

The reason that she is in the book is because when JRR Tolkien was a small child living in South Africa he was bitten by a large baboon spider that terrified him so much it had a permanent impact on him the rest of his life and heavily affected things that he wrote, indeed as much as surviving Verdun did, and was one of the main reasons he included it in his writings.

My favorite designs and monsters are always the more high folk ones, or the sci fi ones. Such as Moder, the Wendigo, the Blair Witch, the mutated bear etc. All of them are super creative and beautifully made.
You forgot "The Blob". It's the most under-appreciated Monster of all time. If I ever hit the lottery, I'm doing a requel with Cronenberg's kid, or Mike Flanagan and bring back Shawnee and Kevin from the 1988 film. It had a wide open ending. Love your stuff!! Keep moving forward!!
The Bear from Annihilation and The Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth are the movie monsters that scared me most.

I agree. The blob from the remake at least deserves an honorable mention. The creature seemed to be indestructible as it grew larger with every person it consumed. It was horrific how it would slowly digest its victims while they were alive.

A Japanese Film - The Green SLIME is terrifying! Similar to The Blob. Scene that scared the Sh*t out of me. A man is getting his hair washed at a salon and he's leaning backwards and his head is just in the sink and the green slime comes up thru the pipes and starts eating his brain and the screaming just sounded too real! It's subtitled and in glorious black and white. The original Blob was scary too! I found the remake just terrible! The Raptors in Jurassic Park! Scariest movie - Insidious ( I screamed so much & I was alone, the theater was packed, I ended up holding a young man's hand and he was screaming too!)
YES! Count Orlok made the list! Of all the horror movies on this list, the count still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up,100 years later the Count scares a Gen Z. Thats what i call masterful film making
It was awesome watching the original Nosferatu around Halloween to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Still one of my favorite creep-out films, and the 1979 remake is also outstanding, but more so for being just so moody and eerie rather than just creepy.
The fact that Pumpkinhead didnt make this list is extremely disappointing to me. Google him if you've never seen it. I also encourage watching Pumpkinhead and Pumpkinhead 2: Blood Wings. He more than deserves to be on this list.

The Mutant Bear is really scary.. like really.
Mr Barlow from Salems Lot was a bit more scary than 1920's Nosferatu. Having said that, in the 1920's I'd imagine people were absolutely horrified by it
I feel there is two things to analyze when describing the scariest monsters. 1. The design/form of the monster (which goes without saying), and 2. How they act/present themselves throughout the film. The impact of terror in the movie really adds spice to the film. So basically I think this video was damn right

The dementor, Imho, doesn’t belong on the list. The long armed monster from the recent Blair Witch 2016, the radioactive humans from Chernobyl Diaries, and several others come to mind. I also feel that Rexy is totally out of place here with the next on the list being Nosferatu. Definitely could make several lists alone from the monsters on this list, ranging from mutations, to creations and many more. Regardless, love the content and keep up the great work!! 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽
I didn't really feel scared of spiders until I saw the last part of Arachnophobia when it first came out, as well as my traumatizing experience playing LOTR 3 on PS2. So I definitely agree with Shelob being on the list. I enjoyed most of the list as well. Honorable mention I would personally provide that I haven't seen mentioned so far is... Rawhead Rex. I only saw parts of the movie because of how scared I was at the beginning. :/
One monster I think should have been included in this list is the Kothoga from "The Relic" (1996). Even to this day, I have never seen anything else quite like it. Otherwise, great video!
Rexy scared me as a kid. I always thought that a T-Rex was going to get me when i had to sit in the car by myself and wait for my mom to get in.
Awsm thing about Jurassic Park. When I got my braces off, I celebrated the day to have a ICEE and popcorn while watching Jurassic Park on the IMAX screen in theaters. Well done
I thought the monster from Jeepers Creepers should’ve been on here definitely
I definitely agree with the dementors, not only by the fact that they are ominous hooded creatures but that they can suck all the happiness out of you. They may not seem that scary in the movies but if you saw one in real life it would definitely give you a scare
What an excellent list. Though the one who creeped me out the most maybe aren't considered monsters, that they aren't mentioned here: that one girl crawling out of a television in The Ring, first time I saw it. And the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who.

As an on again, off again horror film watcher (depending on the state of my sporadic depression), I am delighted to find both intense memories in this list and a few I have just added to my TBW list when the time is right. I saw Alien when it first hit the theater, and even before the first xenomorph appeared I was getting palpitations from the ominous soundtrack in the egg chamber LOL. Happily we had planned well - it was a double bill (anybody remember those?) with Fantastic Planet, which we watched after Alien - soothed our nerves very nicely, while simultaneously putting its own indelible mark on my psyche. When Jurassic Park came out I was there, and thoroughly loved it. Just before the first sequel came out the local theater put the original back on the big screen. Enough time had gone by that some of the scenes felt new - particularly the escape into the hatch in the ceiling and the raptor jumping straight up at the camera. I think I screamed, but am not sure, because there was enough of that going on around me 😉 Rexy was as awesome, relentless and terrifying as I remembered, but the funniest part came as my husband and I went home. While we had been in the theater a dense fog had rolled in, and we were both nervous as hell about getting out of the car when we arrived back home, surrounded by dripping dark trees LOL🤣🤣🤣
The Marvel Universe has their own Wendigo which has fought Wolverine, the X-Men, Alpha Flight, the Hulk, and even Sabertooth (it happens in the Canadian wilderness after somebody eats other people).
Just had to point something out, 11:12 the shark from Jaws was affectionately named Bruce, which led to another iconic shark to get it's name. The more you know
2:45 In my opinion the best and the creepiest potrayal of Wendigo gave us Stephen King in the Pet Sematary.
The creatures from the movie 'The Mist' are truly terrifying. The spiders at least should have been on this list.

I like to pretend that movie doesn’t exist considering how they butchered the movie which is based on a book including omitting the MAIN character from the book series. Also the creature isn’t even as close to being as creepy as it is in the books.
No Predator??? No way!! Also... Though not many people have seen it, there was a film called Leviathan that contained a truly disgusting creature that essentially "absorbed" people it killed, though not in the same way as The Thing.
