This list should almost be Characters portrayed by multiple actors. When I think of "recast" I think of things like The Oracle, Magento, Grindelwald, or Dumbledore where a character in THE SAME FILM UNIVERSE is replaced.

Wait.. I just don't get this list at all 😂 If you reboot the whole franchise, especially after a long time (over 10 years or so) and you replace the actor/actress, you can't call it recast. Its called starting over. How do you expect an actor to play the same character he played 20 or 30 years ago unless its a continual from the previous movie or series and his character also ages the same number of years as the actor 😅 Same thing goes with creating a prequel, you can't expect actors to magically get younger to play the younger version of the character?? I know there's a digital de-aging method now for movies for example in the Captain Marvel movie where Sam L Jackson played the younger Nick Fury and he really looked 30 years younger. But it was awful watching him doing simple actions such as running or punching bad guys. His face looked young, but his body and movement looked every bit as old as his real age was!

i think it should be specified here that a "recasting" is part of a single film franchise/tv show, ie Daredevil's 3 portrayals are from three different franchises (iow different continuity) who happen to share the same character. Basically, if Sam Raimi eventually decides to make Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire and almost all of the original cast, but gives James Franco's role of Harry Osbourne to a new actor, then it's a recasting; but if the MCU introduces their version of Harry Osbourne in a new Spidey movie, then it's not a recasting, cuz it's literally a new continuity. a better more accurate title for this video would have to be "Top 20 characters played by different actors"

Macbeth could of been an honorable mention and replaced with Superman/Clark Kent. To name a small few who played him: Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Tom Welling, Dean Cain, Henry Cavill, etc. So many more played him too in live action roles. You could even add Tyler Hoechlin if you want to.

John Connor was played by a total of six different actors throughout the Terminator movie series: Edward Furlong, Michael Edwards, Nick Stahl, Christian Bale, Jason Clarke and Jude Collie.

I love how there is no mention of Val Kilmer amongst the Batman actors.

Everyone forgets Val Kilmer I forgot what it’s from but I remember watching a show he’s in and he constantly asks people “don’t you know who I am? I played Batman!” And no one recognized him it was a good giggle

George C. Scott’s my favorite version of Ebenezer Scrooge. Of all the Scrooges, I think Scott really fits the description in the original Dickens text: “A squeezing, wrenching, scraping covetous old sinner”. Who’s your favorite Scrooge?

One problem is with Sherlock Holmes, Jeremy Brett played Homes for 10 years(1984 to 1994) in 41 episodes. Now if just movies, yes, Basil Rathbone did the most movies. As for TV(as far as I know) Jeremy Brett appeared as the character the most.

Brian Cox as Lecter was more feral, arguably more human. Manhunter is pretty great. Good soundtrack.

Manhunter is a forgotten gem, if you ask me. Red Right Hand was a phenomenal pick for the soundtrack.

Good list, but I’m a little surprised Ebenezer Scrooge from ‘A Christmas Carol’ didn’t make the list. At least as an honorable mention, same with Superman/Clark Kent and Robin Hood to name a few.

I think both Bela Lugosi and Sir Christopher Lee are the most iconic portrayals of Dracula.

Sherlock Holmes is better on the small screen rather than the big screen. Because of not just the BBC modern series but also Elementary and the ITV series which ran from 1984 to 1994.

I think they are all pretty amazing. I grew up with Basil Rathbone which may seem odd due to only being in my 30's but I think each character fit the role nicely for the design of the story and the time in which they were produced.

Forgot to mention Superman: Kirk Allen, George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin.

A few notable omissions here. Peter Cushing played The Doctor in the Doctor Who movies, and also along the same lines Tom Baker briefly played Sherlock Holmes for TV. Oh and all the James Bonds in the original Casino Royale.

Cameron Monaghans joker in Gotham is severely underrated

Superman should have been top 5, if not top 3, on this list. Since the hero's 1938 debut in *Action Comics #1*, he's been portrayed by at least 10 different actors on the big and small screens as both the iconic hero and his younger self (young Clark or Superboy).

Whilst he was only Dracula for a 3 episode mini series I really loved Claes Kasper Bang as the vampire, it was such a powerful series in those episodes, made me question life and death.

I can hear the waterworks rushing in from the disappointment of the thumbnails. Mads is an absolute legend, but WB did Johnny Deep ultra dirty.

It's quite the coincidence, that Brian Cox was in the movie Manhunter and also in the videogame Manhunt.

You left out George Robert Lazenby is an Australian actor. He was the second actor to portray fictional British secret agent James Bond in the Eon Productions film series, playing the character in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) He got married and lost his wife in the movie.

You forgot that David Tennant also played in a movie version of Hamlet as prince Hamlet

Suggestion: Top X characters who died because the actor died..

Saying M has been recast more than Bond is wrong. In the Eon productions, there have been six Bonds (Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig), yet only four Ms (Bernard Lee, Robert Brown, Judi Dench, and Ralph Fiennes). If you count the two non-Eon Bond movies (the original Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again) there are three additional Ms (John Huston, David Niven, and Edward Fox). Yes, this does make seven, but if you are indeed counting the two non-Eon Bond movies there’s a seventh Bond: Peter Sellers.

Some of these arent "Recasting." When I think recasting, I think of replacing someone in that direct line of movies.

How COULD you leave the BRILLIANT Jeremy Brett off the list??? He was THE BEST Sherlock Holmes!!

Granted, Mads Mikkelsen should have been cast as Gillert Grindelwald in the first place.

One of my faves is Barnabas Collins, portrayed by the late, great, Jonathan Frid, then Ben Cross and Johnny Depp.

slight correction the show came back in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston. he quit and was replaced by Tennant after one season.

I like Macbeth. This may not count but my mom first played the wife until I did

Gothams Jocker was mentioned more as a notable mention, but to be honest I found that portrayal to rival that of Jack Nicolsons or Heath Ledgers.

The only things I can say are I’ve known only 3 James Bond portrayals Sean Connery which I’ve only seen Goldfinger. Pierce Brosnan only 3 from The World is not Enough to Die Another Day. I’ve seen all the Daniel Craig ones. For Doctor Who only saw film with Paul McGann, tv wise from Christopher Eccleston to Matt Smith though not seen all of ones with him. Peter Capaldi I’ve only seen one episode. For Dracula portrayals it goes from Gary Oldman , Bela Lugosi, Leslie Nielsen to Richard Roxburgh. Dumbledore portrayals only know Richard Harris and Michael Gambon ones. Never knew other Captain Kirk portrayal from the recent tv show or Daredevil portrayal from the 80’s. I mean to be honest never saw William Shatner a lot apart from some film clips and never seen Lou Ferrigno as Hulk. Also the Charlie Cox portrayal in NWH puzzled me didn’t realise it was Daredevil

These are not recasts. These are multiple actors who played thr same characters but in different movie series.

You left out the actors from the 1967 Casino Royale which include David Niven and Peter Sellers, who played James Bond in the movie. The climactic scene at the end has scores of actors wearing James Bond name tags. Technically Woody Allen even plays a version of James Bond in the film, going by Jimmy instead. There are officially 6 actors, couple of them women (like Ursula Andress), who play James Bond in the film. It is a spoof, but you included Leslie Nielsen in a spoof movie as Dracula, so you can't leave out this movie. It is even loosely based on the novel Casino Royale as well. Unfortunately, I didn't find it as funny as I though it should have been, especially with Peter Sellers in it.

I was expecting to see Jesus in this list due to multiple actors who portrayed him.

Mark Ruffalo will always be the best hulk, and I LOVED Nortons Hulk movie as a kid. As an adult, eh.. none of the characters were portrayed that well, except for the general/ red hulk.
