Top 20 Most Challenging Coaster Credits

I asked my Instagram followers what the most challenging coaster credits were, I compiled the results and ranked them up here. This isn't really about obscure coasters in every corner of the globe, it's more about rides that should be easily accessible but aren't, due to maintenance, park laziness, or its park's schedule.

"Silverwood that's in the middle of nowhere, too far" for those of us who live in the middle of nowhere Silverwood is a saving grace! As someone who loves coasters and the mechanics behind them, I'm afraid to call myself an enthusiast simply because financially I can't get out to all the legendary coasters in the east coast or in California. My sad little 7 credit count will have to do until I can plan some epic coaster roadtrips!

For Sandy's Blasting Bronco, they had it listed back in November that it was reopening December 24. Then, they changed it to late January. Then, they changed it to late February. Now, it doesn't even list a date and is just down for "annual maintenance". I think they need to learn that annual is supposed to mean once a year, not all year long.

Idk if any coaster has given me as much anxiety as Lightning Rod. In August of 2020 my mom and I took a road trip to the Smokies, so naturally we had to set aside a day for dollywood. Its reputation was very notorious at this point, so I almost cried happy tears when I saw it testing. I got 6 rides that day, and it has been my #1 ever since (but of course it did close for about 2 hours in the afternoon for good measure). I felt even more fortunate considering it closed shortly after for its iBox overhaul

This year, my parents and my brothers who are seniors in high school drove to viginia to see the viginia tech collage and then my mom asked me if I knew what Dollywood was and I was like, of course, and she said we were gonna drive an extra 3 hours and go for a day, I was so excited for months waiting for the trip and then my mom told me lightning rod had been closed for over a month because of a rollback that damaged another car, the week of when we were going it was still closed, we get to the official Dollywood resort and then my dad said that he was gonna ask if it was gonna open, I thought there was no point since there was barely a chance for it to open, and they said it might open… we get to the park and I almost shed a tear I was so happy that it was open, I was so disappointed when I knew it closed, but the day I got there it opened back up and we got on it 4 times, I drove 11 hours and got on Lightning rod, I still think El toro at my homepark is better… but it was still an amazing ride and my first rmc

i was so anxious about making it on when i went to dollywood for the first time this past december…and then my bf and i ended up getting to walk right on the ride like five times in one day. granted it was very cold and raining the entire day-and my first ride on it was in freezing rain. we had so much fun and got to ride it during the morning and and at night!! i was so thankful we made it on! it seems as though it’s been so much more consistent since they had to change the launch :P

Being only a half-an-hour away from King’s Island, Stricker’s Grove is well worth a side trip. Tornado has one moment of extreme ejector that is akin to the return run on Lightning Run at Kentucky Kingdom. Just that one moment makes it a top 15 woodie in my book. We drove up from Pittsburgh to go there Labor Day weekend. Stayed at Stricker’s for about an hour and then went to Kings Island for the last four hours of its operating day. Fast pass was our friend, and all-told, rode 14 new coasters that day, bringing my overall total to 141.

I've ridden Tornado and Teddy Bear, and they were actually really good! They both had some surprising pops of airtime, and Tornado actually has a triangle hill / death ejector hill, probably not as strong as Pippin, but it still gave some great airtime. Glad to have the 2 most rare credits on this list.

I rode Desperado and Big Shot (at Stratosphere) in the same year. That year was 1996. Highly recommend Big Shot which I believe is still running - was one of the few mind blowing experiences I've had on a ride because you are 1000 feet off the ground and can't see the structure at all. Desperado was fun at the time but don't beat yourself up to get there.

A coaster that I thought should be on this list (it's in the UK so it probably doesn't count) was The Antelope at Gulliver's World in the UK. What makes this a challenging credit is the park. It's a park made for children, and while it's a very mild wooden coaster (and actually my first credit) you can only get an admission to the park if you are with a child. That's 1 child per adult admission as well, so you can't have 1 child and 2 adults.

Olympia looping operates every winter in Hyde park in London, so is a very atteignable credit for europeans. It's definitely worth the trip, glossy smooth and so intense- it's the only coaster I ever greyed-out on. Also Kingda ka was down when I visited in 2009... for a european like me having traveled all this way... it really hurt. El Toro and Nitro more than make up for it though!

lol... I've been to both Silverwood and Lagoon. Most recently was Silverwood with my mom (who lives about an hour away from the park) and brother where it was about 100° F, and I ended up with heat stroke. Before I got sick, we rode Tremors and Timber Terrors. I'm not usually a fan of coasters like Aftershock, so I gave it a miss, and Stunt Pilot was closed. Because it's a short ride and the line was non-existent, I rode Corkscrew with my mom half a dozen times. Interestingly, Corkscrew used to be at Knott's Berry Farm where my mom had ridden it previously, so it was kind of cool that she's experienced it at both places. The only one on the actual list that I've ridden on was the Wild Mouse at Idlewild, but that was years ago. I was probably 9 or 10... maybe even younger than that.

Odyssey at Fantasy Island gave me an unrivalled amount of cred anxiety, it having spited me in 2014 due to wind. In 2021 as I was approaching the park the weather was thankfully fantastic but eagerly watching the skyline not a single train was sent. When I got to the park they evacuated the entire queue due to technical difficulties and was still closed an hour later. It then reopened very shortly after and I managed to ride it four times during the day. It also had two other relatively short breakdowns (~5 minutes) throughout the rest of the day, before closing around half an hour before the rest of the rides (although I was gone by then). It is a truly fantastic ride and I feel awful for those who never got to ride it. I have heard nightmares about this thing. Supposedly someone was spited by this thing seven times in a row. Just catch a day with near-perfect weather with as little wind as possible, then still hope for the best as it could go down at any point - but wait it out! It could reopen. The ops have some level of determination to keep it running through the day.

Yeah Bobbsled was closed for a few hours when I went and while I was in line it closed, but thankfully they let us stay in line if we wanted to since it was only expected to be a few minutes, and it was. As for Le Monstre, I think the lack of being open stems from issues because the ride will do testing often when it's closed. I think its age is just setting in and it needs a retrack, or better yet the RMC treatment.

I've been on 7 of these and for the most part they're usually operating. Since SFGA is my home park I know Kingda Ka well, and it actually doesn't have much downtime, but it did have more when I first started going there. I think Zumanjaro helped its reliability since it had fewer launches per hour when they had to operate against each other. The only time I recall it being closed the entire day I was there was a few days after the bird strike, but that had nothing to do with the operations. I also found Goliath at SFNE to be much less reliable but I did get on it most times I went to the park.

I like how you list Silverwood and Lagoon, my two home parks I had growing up, as the hardest credits to get right off the bat when those were literally my first. Always been such a bummer to live out in the mountain west which is such a coaster desert. Anytime I want to hit any of the big parks or score any of the big creds, it requires a full-scale vacation with flights, hotel, and usually car rental. It's not easy and definitely not cheap! I envy those who live out east who can hit so many legendary parks with just a simple road trip.

I've had great luck with Lightning Rod in both 2019 and 2022. I even managed to grab several rides on it at night in December when the temperature was in the high 30s. Such a great ride and they seem to have solved most of the issues with it.

Chris, A couple of ideas for future videos: 1. Top roughest/worst coasters ridden as voted on/sent in by your viewers. 2. Top roller coaster nicknames. Top Thrill Downtime is funny; others are Hang & Bang's (Vekoma SLC's); the Spinebuster (Mighty Canadian Minebuster), etc.

I always thought of myself as a fairly unlucky person, until I realized I have been on 5 coasters on this list (Kingda Ka, Flying Turns, Batwing, Leap the Dips, and Alpine Bobsled). One rare-ish defunct credit that I am pretty proud of: Stinger at Dorney Park. It only ran for 5 years at Dorney and I got to ride it twice! Also honorable mention to one of my defunct kiddie credits: Steel First at Dorney. One of those that had a max height so I consider myself pretty lucky to have ridden it in my youth

Ragin Cajun at Six Flags America was my most challenging coaster credit to get. I had to go through so much to finally get a ride, as it's always been broken when I go. It operated for the first 10 minutes on my last unplanned visit there, and I managed to get on it before it broke again. I have ridden many on this list, even ones where I only had one day there. Diamond Back at Frontier City has been open on every visit except one, but I know that's not normal.

I'm glad that I watched this video before my trip to Great Adventure. Knowing that Kingda Ka might be close or would during the day, we got early to the park and went straight to Kingda Ka for our first ride of the day. The ride shut down after it's first ride... Not a great way to start a day. We waited about 15-20 minutes for it to start again. We rode the third train of the day and finaly got our credit. The ride did close for good during the day. For "The Monstre" at La Ronde, it seems to work well this year (2022). It was working every time we went to La Ronde (it's our home park). Both tracks were working all day... that's something I've rarely seen in the last few years. Still shaky but a lot of fun even though I'm clearly biased since it's my first big coaster ever. Maybe it's because they remove Cobra and Super Manège. Since only a few coasters are remaining, maybe they put their energy to make Le Monstre work well again

Maxx Force, to this day, has been closed more days then its been open. That's really bad, especially for a huge park like Great America. (Granted its an S&S Air launch, but still) For sure one of the top 20 hardest coasters to get on.

This will be a fun video that I plan to return to frequently to see if I can get more of these in the future. I have the following: The two Arrow shuttle loops, Batwing, Kingda Ka, Flying Turns, Top Thrill Dragster, Teddy Bear, and Tornado Some of these I don't really care about but the ones I'd really like to get are Desperado (great aspirations to ride this since the 90s, Leap the Dips (historic reasons), Lightning Rod (personal reasons regarding my weight), and Classic Coaster.

When my family, friends and I went to Florida for the Carnival Mardi Gras cruise trip we planned(it was very expensive with excursions and other things), we realized that there was a roller coaster on the cruise. Bolt is actually a pay-to-ride coaster. You need to pay $15 just to ride it. Adding that to the cost of the trip, that’s about $5,750. It’s worth it though. Once you get launched out of the station, the two trip cycle begins. Once you come back to the station, your trip is not over yet. You go around a second time, and after that it’s done. You can also get a nice little picture of you on the ride. I would rate it a 7/10. Pretty fun ride with a helix, and an off axis airtime hill, some of my favorite elements on roller coasters. Try to go in summertime. It’s better then, than going in the wintertime. Plus, when you get hot, you can refresh yourself by getting the water in the bucket dump on you. It’s amazing when it happens. Did I mention that the cruise has multiple water slides? Well it has a drop slide, a mat slide, and a body slide. It has mini golf, fun activities you can do on the cruise (the activities are different than excursions) like Trivia and something that was new to me, Wheely Big. Once you leave the port, they have an outdoor party to get you pumped up for the trip. It’s 7 days, so you have a lot of time to ride it. I also got a hat (yes they exist) that has Bolt on it. That was the last thing I did on the cruise.

I feel lucky to have the credit for Flash: Vertical Velocity. I rode it probably back in 2007 or 2008 when I was younger, back when it was V2. Me and my family would go yearly (sometimes twice) when it was Marine World, and it was NEVER open. I don't think I've ever had the chance to ride it aside from the one run through, and even then, it's been many years since I've been to SFDK. While unrelated, it feels nice to have the old Roar credit there before conversion still!

I was finally able to get on TTD this past season. FLP did wonders as I was able to get on it 6 times across two days. I've been to Dollywood twice (2018 and 2021), and both times Lightning Rod was down. My only visit to Great Adventure in 2009 was a week after Kingda Ka got struck by lightning, so it wasn't open as well. I'm hoping this year will be the year I finally get on LR and KK as I plan to get to both parks at some point this year.
