    Japan is relatable to audience who mostly have no athletic body. Being literally the shortest team in average, they managed to fell down giants. That's a hero story. That's why they're so popular. They're the Avengers in volleyball.

    what has lacking in height doing with athleticism ? Japanese players aren't by no mean behind. I don't understand why "audience who have no athletic body" would relate to them. They literally are one of the most athletic team

    @@maouimaisnon2535I think they meant having a body type suitable for the sport (athletic body = sports suiting body for the athlete). Kind of like how Micheal Phelps has the ideal structure (long torso, etc) for swimming, they’re probably saying Japan doesn’t have many players with the “ideal” body type for volleyball in comparison to taller teams.

  • @maouimaisnon2535

    @maouimaisnon2535

    @@strapkins4999 but body type has nothing to do with height. In volleyball, being taller is an advantage, it doesn't necessarily means being tall automatically makes you the ideal body type. Every tall people isn't suited for volleyball, if that was the case the Netherlands would be the no1 team. I do think japanese people are particularly suited for sports requiring speed and jumping powers (its the case in figure skating, where japanese are particularly good), and that's what volleyball is about. If they're very tall in addition to that it's even more perfect (even though being too tall reduces your speed and tonicity). Go tell Nishida and Ishikawa that they don't have the ideal body type. They're not very tall compared to other players, but they're as good if not better than them. Again, height =/= body type. In this regard, polish people aren't built like the brazilians, who aren't biult like the Iranians, who aren't built like the Chinese, who aren't built like the Japanese. Besides, according to the position you play at, "body type ideals" aren't the same at all.

    @@maouimaisnon2535 I think you arent getting the point here. I think he means that the Japanese team is so popular because they show the opposite of what most people think; that people need to be tall to play volleyball at a high level. They show that other aspects of the human body are important for this sport aswell.

  • @maouimaisnon2535

    @@ingcrafter And again, putting height and athletic body in the same sentence implies that since they are shorter, Japanese players are less athletic, what the first comment was about (because in their minds, apparently, height=athleticism). Maybe that's not what they meant, but how the sentenced is built, it looks like it's what they wanted to say. So my point is that, yes, Japanese players are on average *shorter* than western teams, but on the other hand, they are on average more *athletic*, to be able to compensate like they do. Athleticism doesn't make up for everything of course, there's also strategy, game intelligence, risk taking, etc...

    4:59 Wah Sekita during that play- First moved forward to set the ball, before realising the ball went over the net. Then he moved back to allow the blockers to move forward, and went all the way around so that he doesn't disrupt any player's run, whilst looking at the opponents' play. And then, noticing the ball was gonna drop on the right, he swiftly moved to receive if the ball went off course from the block, AND HE SAVED IT TWICE. I love him 😍

    Japan is more likable than France to fans. They’re exciting, more fun to watch and the players are handsome and the team works hard. There’s also the appeal of the two countries - Japan wins hands down. There’s no need to watch team Japan if you don’t like them. France won the VNL but so what? Team Japan is popular and what people want to see.
