Hearing Pierce, Azarenka, an Mattek-Sands makes me cringe in pain listening to them. It amazes me how long it takes for the trainer to come out to court when they’re screaming in pain, clearly needing immediate help, and everyone’s just standing around

Tennis lags behind greatly in this aspect. At football matches you have an ambulance on standby. What if a player has a heart attack or other serious condition.

The Mattek-Sands case was quite of a scandal, because she lied there crying in agony for nearly thirty minutes before someone arrived. In Wimbledon, not exactly an ITF $10,000 tournament. As people said then: "thank God it wasn't a heart attack".

What a painful injury for Pierce in more ways than 1. It not only ended her career, but she lost 3 match points that would have spared her & completely changed her tennis future.

  • @wxyz459

There’s an embarrassing number of people in the comments who think that injured people have to prove themselves to be gravely injured in order for their pain to be valid. Since when was suffering a contest? Just because there’s no broken skin or bone doesn’t mean that the injury isn’t serious or even career-ruining like in Pierce’s case. If anything, tendon injuries (which don’t look as gruesome as bone injuries) are a lot more difficult to recover from.

I know a lot of footballers will throw themselves to the ground acting like they just received a right hook from Mike Tyson after the slightest brush, but at least when a player is seriously injured in football, it doesn't take long for medical staff and if necessary paramedics and ambulances to get onto the pitch to assist. From watching this video and others, as well as live tournaments on TV it seems to me to take far too long to get help to a injured player in Tennis.

Wtf is wrong with the tennis medics now? 4 or 5 of the women here were screaming or moaning in agony and they look as if they r in no rush to get there. Both Pierce and Mattek-Sands needed ambulances and yet it still took them a few minutes to get down there. It’s just so shocking

When a player falls, the first person to arrive on the scene should be the medic. The umpire, referee can all come in later.

I wonder if there are medical teams at tennis tournaments. I did not see any. If a player is badly injured on court then logically medics should go on to treat them. It's called common sense.

If Federer and Cheatdal had the same injury, they would call a damn helicopter inside the court to take them to the hospital. They wouldn't abandon them on the ground and just leave them there screaming in pain. Double standards for those two entitled snobs.

Just a question from an ignorant person who doesn't watch Tennis a lot: Why does it take like 20 seconds until there's help when there's an obvious injury happening? Like the first ten seconds no one bothers to even go have a look at the injured person and the following seconds there's people standing around like clueless chickens. Is that normal? Isn't there at least like one team of medics that can immediately run on the court and do some first aid?

Mens football, a player goes down because someone accidentally brushes against them, so player falls and rolls ten times, screaming for effect as he pretends to be injured as to win a freekick, then 4 kit men sprint on to aid to the pretend injury. Women's tennis, player goes down seriously injured, screams in agony for help, crowd is like, ''pass the strawberries'' Umpire is like ' yawn'' so she lays there, no one helps in agony screaming HELP HELP HELP, and no one ever does. It's so messed up.
