Fun fact: I've never died to Elden Beast, but Radagon handed me my ass dozens of times. He's way cooler than Elden Beast, and more difficult. I thought Radagon would change into Marika for the final boss.

The Radagon boss is Radagon and Marika as one. So Marika as 2nd phase would make no sense.

I don't know why it doesn't make sense. Godfrey becomes Hora Loux for a second phase. Why can't Radagon switch to being Marika? Did everyone study the lore in depth on their first play through? I know I didn't. To me, the idea that Radagon might switch to Marika made more sense than giant space slug appearing out of nowhere. If I had to fight Marika, I certainly wouldn't be thinking "Well, this makes no sense from a lore perspective." I expect the lore people claim now would just be different if that is how the game ended.

@Marcel Hanout lore wise no. The hammer is being used to fix the elden ring itself and the elden Beast is the embodiment of order, Radagon/markia is the vessel for the greater will. However I do agree that Radagon would make be better as our final opponent. However elden Beast just makes more sense lore wise

That would be like nameless king in a way, only with the first phase being a lot longer, which could put people off. Generally people also disliked this duo boss aspect of Nameless King. I guess, it's just a boss archetype Fromsoft is going with at this point and a player can like that or dislike that.

God no, the peek-a-boo style BS from the Elden Beast draws the fight out like chewing gum, having to beat that every time before Radagon would suck. Radagon and Elden Beast should simply not be a combined boss fight like Gehrman and Moon Presence in Bloodborne.

I fucking hate sir gideon. I genuinely dont know what were they thinking how were we supposed to beat him. Like stunlocking doesnt work cause he has light roll and he can just spam roll 2 times in a row. Worst thing is that people arent really aware how hard he is, cause they get right rng which lets them just kill him easily. I got such a rng on my rl1 run and beat him 1st try. Only because I got lucky. And people are laughed at for dying to him, when he is literally my top 3 hardest bosses in elden ring. Seriously This boss is the only boss worse than bef of chaos

Idk man, i found gideon to be extremely ez lol. He has really low HP but can heal only if u take too long to hit him. Besides that the game has so many broken weapons and also dual wielding exists by the time u even reach him lol. So, dmg is ez on him.

I clicked on this video after struggling for hours against the Godskin Duo and this is every bit of the validation I needed that those mfs are just unfair 💀

Finally someone mentions Rennala, I thought I'm the only one hating that boss. As a first time experience, visuals are extremely neat but even then I was like "Oh yeah, the local Deacons of the Deep but more goofy instead of creepy and atmospheric" And phase 2 is just frustrating after a while. Magic spam, running away, magic spam, summoning buddies... I dealt with this kind too many times in PvP and didn't need to see it as one of the main bosses too. Aldrich in DS3 got all the hate but I think that was a genuinely cool concept for a mage boss. Rennala ain't hard, but extremely annoying for me.

Another irritating thing for Radagon/Elden Beast is that Radagon is weak to fire but the Elden Beast has high fire resistance which is further bolstered by the fight taking place in a watery arena, so you better hot-swap your weapons or an already way too long fight (thanks to EB's tendency to run away from you) takes even longer.

What I don't understand with ER is how ending you go for doesn't change the final boss Elden Beast has 0 reasons to attack you if you are doing any of the Elden Lord endings

My hated thing about Rennala is the forced de-lock when she summons fucking ANYTHING since it completely fucks with my tempo. Oh no she summoned a giant, time for my camera lose lock on the boss and then when I try to lock back on it targets EVERY PART OF THE GIANT before finally targeting the actual boss again. The magma wyrms suffer from Rathian lawnmower syndrome which is a fatal condition for all parties involved. Redwolf has that stupid fucking frame reading AI that all the annoying bosses and enemies have so it's immediate garbage tier. I love the part about tree spirits where you have to guess "Is it moving or is it attacking?" because they sure did give it a hitbox. Gideon the all blowing is just a trial of annoyance. Frame reading AI, infinite casting resources, massive AOE spam, keep away, frame traps, area denial, DOT. Gideon is how to do a caster boss in the worst way possible, but at least we can ignore all the actually interesting areas in the game to make him easier since his difficulty is tied directly to exploration. I pray for the people who beat Rykard before Gideon since now on top of all his other BS he now has a homing missile with good tracking. Godskin duo DESERVES worst boss in the game for so many god damn reasons. The devs had 1 goal with this boss; rip off O&S. Issue, they forgot what made O&S a GOOD fight. AI pathing isn't what it once was, and we can't go back to it, O&S was balanced because, while they are hard, they were easy to separate, Smough was slow and would commonly get stuck on the pillars and Ornstein was fast and could shoot over to you quickly but have a LOT of recovery lag so he couldn't really act for awhile if you dodged him. You could choose who to go after whenever you wanted because they were designed to have clear weaknesses that were further exploited by their boss arena and the relatively poor AI pathing while still working together and covering each other if YOU mispositioned them. Godskin duo throws all of that out the window because they aren't designed to be a true duo encounter. Their boss arena has the same gimmicks as the O&S arena with the breakable pillars, but because of the superior AI pathfinding they will NEVER get stuck on the pillars, so they're a moot point for actually separating them. The broken pillars are also bad as projectile blockers unlike with O&S. Ornstein had a projectile that came out mid height, so the pillars, even when broken, were effective cover from it so you could use one to hide behind for a reprieve. In godskin DUO the broken pillars can't block their projectiles at all since they throw them from the top of their models, so you can't even use them to block projectiles which is really fucking mandatory when they BOTH have the frame tracking AI and will BOTH throw blackflame at you when they detect the first frame of your heal animation. The ONLY thing the pillars actually block is the fatty's rollout and, oh look, that isn't guaranteed since that attack lasts what, 10 whole seconds? So while they're sometimes stuck using that attack and unable to get past a pillar, oh look, the other one just walks up and starts attacking you, and because you have to dodge skinny, the fatty's rollouts tracking adjusts to, well, TRACK you, and becomes unstuck from the pillar, and because rollout lasts 10 fucking seconds, you now have to dodge a massive moving hitbox and whatever skinny throws out as well. So, the arena doesn't lend itself to the fight they're trying to rip off at all, the enemies don't work in the arena and are actually not built to work together at all, making it a broken duo fight, but oh fucking boy does it get worse because they also made them the four FUCKING kings as well if the four kings weren't made irrelevant by having low damage hitzones and havels. This isn't a duo fight, it's a 3-4 godskin fight since these fuckers have a god damn resummon mechanic that brings back whichever godskin died first at FULL HEALTH. They are, straight up, the WORST boss in all of the souls games I've played, Royal rat authority may have been annoying but at least he didn't resummon the fucking rats! When the only counterplay to a boss is an optional cookbook for sleep pots/arrows and that's the ONLY way to truly separate them, then the boss is badly designed, but hey, that's just Elden ring duo fights in a nutshell since they're all badly designed and easily the worst parts of the game.

Never hated Godskin Duo too much. Yeah, it's an uninspired design to just throw 2 reskins at once, but if you use all the tools the game gives you it makes sense. Unlike Gargoyles, who aren't really weak to anything and the only thing to do it is to power through, with Godskins you can separate them with summons or Bernahl efficiently, use statuses to your advantage, focus a specific one etc. Also Elden Beast is 100% more annoying if, like me, you didn't realize there's a sprint button in the game in the first playthrough.

Same here. Godskin duo always made sense to me. The twin gargoyles are extremely overturned and unbalanced

so basically, here is a list of what i think makes bosses bad: 1) they're too big. it's just too hard to tell what's going on sometimes. trying to figure out what kind of attack fire giant is going to use by how his ankles are moving is just not good gameplay. they look imposing but virtually none of the fights against really large enemies are good fights. 2) they're too crackhead-y. there should be a kind of flow to a fight. dodge an attack or two, punish. dodge, punish. sometimes bosses will decide to just string together approximately 87 attacks in a row, and there is no flow. it's just roll for your life, roll for your life, roll for your life, repeat. if the boss ever does finally chill the fuck out for a second, you're out of stamina anyway. tbh if we have a stamina bar, bosses should too. some of these infinite combos they pull out are just dumb. 3) they're too weird. at virtually no point during the fight do i have any idea what tree serpent is doing. i don't know if its insane wriggling is an attack i have to dodge or just repositioning. it all looks the same and it all looks like shit. pretty much every boss that hits one of those points is a bad fight, and naturally the worst boss fights are the ones that hit all 3. also, bonus shit point, there're 2 of them. i can't think of one double boss fight in this game that i enjoyed. they're all terrible. double bonus points if each individual boss hits a couple of those first 3 points *and* there're two of them (hi, gargoyles & crucible knights)

It is kinda ouch that even Twin dragonriders in ds2 manages to be better designed that ER duo bosses. Sure its a mediocre boss fight but at least it got a good idea of a duo boss. Just like with pinwheel got a decent idea of a boss but they forgot to give that boss hp so he wouldnt die from harch language. :V

I brought out every piece of cheese I could for the Godskin duo. I used sleep. I used summons. I just wanted to get through them. 1) Duo fights suck in Elden Ring. 2) I've already fought the godskin apostle and noble many times already. I'm tired of fighting them. 3) If this was a fight in some optional dungeon, I wouldn't mind so much, but this is a mandatory part of every run. The bosses that you have to fight should be the highlight of the game.

I think Rennala would be way better if it was just the second phase with more health. The first phase just drags on way too long, it's not fun, it's not challenging, it's just a waste of time.

Gideon actually gets spells based on the bosses you have beaten before you fight him.

i think you need to change camera options for dynamic action for the bird and some of these

I can’t help it. I love the Renala fight. It opens up with the puzzle mechanic and I’m like “Oh god it’s one of these fights” just to get hadouken’d in the face in Phase 2. I laughed so hard the first time I fought her.

Ulcerated Tree Spirit is not that bad lol. The biggest problem with it is how much it is reused, but the boss itself is actually pretty good. It does have a moveset and it has one of the most fair and generous movesets in the game

I agree I actually find them pretty fun. The diving grab move where it roars in the air first is actually really cool and satisfying to dodge. Only bad thing is the camera because from soft are genius amateurs and the huge aoe explosion it does

Personally if I were to add in another boss into the mix here, Fia’s Champions is probably one of the worst bosses I’ve faced period, especially in challenge runs. I absolutely despise that final phase and I dare say that phase is way worse than my experiences with Godskin Duo. And yeah, my personal worst boss is the Gargoyles because screw that invisible poison AoE. At least for Godskins you can use the arena to your biggest advantage and prevent getting steamrolled by standing on a broken pillar and besides, Apostle is mostly idle if you leave him alone.

It's flawed game design because you shouldn't have to be hearing this from someone else just to avoid having a terrible experience fighting Deathbirds

the magama wyrm looking cool but not being fun is absolutely a huge disappointment... i love huge dragonoids, but smashing at their ankles, or whiffing at their head is boring gameplay so here we have a dragonoid that you can hit anywhere you want, and never flies away... and they wasted it.

When I did my rl1 run, I crutched the wizard-away 3000 against Gideon. Still took me countless tries. Ofc in hindsight you should just oneshot him with buffs but the Treesentinel shield can help.

i almost agree with this list, but some of his reasonings just scream skill issue or self inflicted pain for a challenge run, like in a challenge run nothing is supposed to suck absolute ass.

I feel like these are an interesting mixture of pretty uncontroversial (Godskin Duo, Valiant Gargoyles), generic background bosses that nobody has to do (Deathrite, Tree Spirit) and the ones where personal preferences come through extremely clearly (Rennala, Fire Giant).

I say this all the time. The Elden Beast isnt a boss fight, its a damn obstacle course

I came here expecting Fire Giant who I beat a few days ago and thought "...Man that was a garbage fight". I'm actually at Godskin Duo now and it's funny because I genuinely liked the first Godskin Apostle fight. The Noble not so much, but it was tolerable. Fighting them together? It's trash. These bosses seemed to have been designed to have been fought separately and having them together just makes it overwhelming because where Ornstein and Smough's movesets complimented each other, the Godskins are both just way too fast and hit WAY too hard to have to fight them together. It just feels lazy.

God Devouring Serpent is the worst. On my play throughs, I literally just stood on the lava bed and it rendered most of his moves useless against me. And the lava doesn’t really hurt you at all, so it’s free game just to stay there most of the fight and take him out really easy.

Eldin beast is such a cool boss and the music made it amazing. He moves a lot but honestly people hate it for being much more slow paced compared to radagon. I think eldin beast is getting really harsh treatment tbh

I think that the deathrite birds were meant to be fought at medium distance with sacred blade. The camara behaves much better at that distance

He didn’t mention it but you can switch the lock-on target to his body. It’s much more stable and easier to manage than his head. He takes more damage when you hit his head but the camera is all over the damn place.

Inseparable Sword or Miquellan Knight Sword with Weapon Art on busts even the two strongest Death Rite Birds in half a dozen hits. They're still extremely irritating to fight regardless.

Hope we get the Godskin trio for the dlc with fatty, skinny and the only Chad.

Can't disagree with this list, the only thing I would change is to put deathrite bird and valiant gargoyles in the top 3, they suck so much they are almost impossible if you don't have enough damage or use summons but I do understand why you would put them higher on the list since They are completely optional and I personally just ignore them and not even bother with fighting unlike the bosses you mentioned in your top 3

I am glad to see we agree on godskin duo beeing an insult...right up there with: Bed of Chaos, Four Kings and Royal Rat authority...defently fromsofts worts...

Renalla is getting stunned with any sneeze in her direction, the only problem she can provide is if you're a mage - then you're fucked twice in a row because she doesn't care about your attacks. But any other thing bursts her low health down so quick that she can cast 1-2 spells and rest in pieces. God damn birds are 1 place for me. There's literally no safe place in this fight. You're trying to get close - get smacked by god knows how many stick blows combo. You're trying to get away - get oneshoted with a jump with burn that by the way NEVER appears in the place of actual hit, it goes 10 meters left or right for some reason. Fire giant is literally one of the easiest bossfight in the game, he is so slow that he can't hit anything. And godskin duo is the worst duo bossfight I've ever seen in my entire life. If you're pure melee - congrats, you're screwed, because even 1v1 they can clap your ass in melee but two of them are impossible to survive. This is the only fight in the game that I've never done without any kind of cheese, mostly magical stuff like oneshoting them with lightnings or meteorites.

Godskins are actually fun as long as you only use sleep pots on the noble and fight the apostle one on one since it's gone from a shite boss and a good one at the same speed to a single good boss

I don't doubt that you have gotten good, but you might wanna know that you can lock on the deathrite bird body. It moves a lot less than the head.

It all really depends on the build, which is what kinda bothers me about souls games. Some bad bosses' annoying-ness can be lessened if you have a stronger build, but not every build is strong. So then you kinda get funneled into "meta" builds if you're having a hard time. Sometimes Godskin Duo is awful, sometimes it's eh. Then other bosses like Hoarah Loux or Radagon can be awful (and especially Malenia) but then sometimes not.

I feel like they knew some of their bosses were so cheese so they said screw it give them ashes to help the guy out instead of balancing the bosses cause that would be more work lol.

Some people talk shit like a mike tyson or a george foreman -- short and strong sentences to tear something down. Youwy is a volume puncher. Two doo doo lefts with the trash rights (x3 combo), boom roasted via TKO. No mas. The bosses quit in the corner -- Marika giving them that celestial dew because they sinned against you and must be forgiven. Also, doo doo trash. Damnit. GOD DAMNIT. The word virus has spread, now I'm calling things that. It's like the first time I heard "low-key" or something.

The Godskin duo fight is only accessible with sleep pot, if they fix that bug I can stop playing this game, which probably just a matter of time when they found the bug🌚

See, I just feel no guilt about sleeping the Godskin Duo, so I don’t even think of them as a boss. They’re a check on whether you farmed some Trina Lillies

They should add a feature to zoom out the camera on these Godzilla azz bosses

its interesting how Gideon is actually hard at level 1. I haven't played as much as you, but i have beaten the game with 5 characters, and in each of those the Gideon fight is over in about 10 seconds, a complete joke,.. because by then i can hit hard with something thatll stagger him, usually takes 2 or 3 hits. ive never even seen a part of his moveset in my own games

The same goes for the Fia summons. It really makes you aware of how op the player character is in a sense. The thing that makes it hard, is that player characters actually have very little recovery or punish windows, so you need to rely on dumb AI behaviour.

Micolash is the best ER boss by farm. He cooms.

What they shouldve done for elden beast is have ranni give you some cool thing that lets you summon torrent for elden beast.

boy never had a problem with any boss except malenia. And i owe it to two reasons. Moonveil + mimic

Only bosses I disagree with here are: -Rennala is just a damage rush. If you rush her down relentlessly with damage, she can't do shit. The summons can basically be ignored too; only the Bloodhound Knight should be respected. -I get why people hate Fire Giant on first playthroughs, but he's actually super predictable and easily dodged once you get used to him. If you get summoned for Fire Giant enough, he becomes a joke. -I've NEVER understood the issue with Godskin Duo. I can't even recall if I've ever died to them. Feels like they may have been busted in an earlier patch and now they just coasting off that reputation, cause now they're very easy and the 2nd Godskin is always super passive when you fight the 1st. Oh and Gideon, but Youwy himself seemed to mention that was specifically for RL1.

I will never hate anything more than the valiant gargoyles
