Feel like it says something about the current game when it's special to see a trap card being played like trap cards were meant to be played
@sailorplanetmars6103
4 жыл бұрын
In fairness, it was almost inevitable. Traps were always the slowest and least useful and over... 23 years I think? It's unsurprising they got less and less useful, especially as negates got more accessible. It's worth noting they're not completely useless either, and Solemn Judgement has maintained relevance for a long time. There are still some Traps that see use because of their Spell Speed allowing specific combos, like stall Traps or Trickstar Reincarnation.
@garymcginnis8511

Traps are played a lot right now. Trap decks always come and go and rn they are very very strong. Eldlitch is obviously op, but Altergeist is also crazy rn. "Traps are bad" is something only ex players think. @garymcginnis8511
4 жыл бұрын
@@kevinmonares1577 that's why dragma punishment has been really fun to me, since it can protect something weak from battle but be used whenever else as interruption. its a really versatile and aggressive trap to the point that I can leave it in going second. It's strong but limited to decks that don't need the extra so it won't become overplayed. It super fun to me in Weather Painter and Infernoid and more casually in Cyberdark, since they already use a similar mechanic. Cards like this and Crackdown (and I guess eldlitch...) show to me that Konami does have a pretty good understanding of how to make powerful and fun modern trap cards
I saw someone using Subterror Final Battle with Bait Doll. I lost that duel. He'd activate it for his turn and let it go an k down. Then, he'd Bait Doll to activate it again. Since Bait Doll goes back to the deck, it was kinda nuts as a combo.

Interesting little triva about Crackdown, for those that don't know: if you can flip the Monster you stole with it facedown after Crackdown resolves and then flip it back up again, you can then attack and use it's Effects, and destroying the Trap after the point of flip down will not revert control to the opponent. This means with a Book of Moon effect you can effectively perma-steal your opponents, which doesn't sound all to conveint or exciting until you remember that Subterro Gurru exists, at that is when you realize that deck can utilize it as a better Snatch Steal on all Non-Link Monsters. Lovely stuff, innit?

You should have mentioned darkest lair when talking about the virus card you can tribute your opponents monster instead of your own because of its effect it’s so much fun and really dirty lol.
There is a mistake when speaking on the Paleo Dinomischus It is true that you dont have to discard until resolution, and not in cost as other cards. This makes it great to not having to discard if it gets negated, however if the opponent gets rid of the monster you are teying to banish, you still have to discard, as that is the A part of the effect, banishing is B and since they are not connected by "and" but by "if you do" even if B cannot happen (banishing) you still do A (discarding)
I was hoping to see trickstar reincarnation on this list. It can get rid of every card in your opponents hand with droll lock bird
10:30 nop. The 1 trap card you can activate that turn doesnt need to be the one you set with trap tricks effect
I think there is a misconception about trap cards: With some exceptions people don't play trap cards as STAPLES anymore, but that doesn't mean they are useless. There is two really powerful decks (Altergeist and Eldlich)that use a ton of trap cards.

Enzo Rafael Torrential Tribute has been topping here and there lately. An Altergeist deck got second place at PPG with it I believe. Nibiru is without a doubt better but Torrential has its uses especially when trap trick is put into the equation. Many decks try to set up some sort of negate on the 5th summon so torrential tribute can sometimes be used to stop them before they have the chance. Nibiru is certainly better but to say that Torrential isn’t a good card is just absurd

Top 10 Metagame or Playstyle Shifts, while I'm not sure how you would rank them against each other, I think it would be interesting to know what cards led people to make large strategic changes in deckbuilding. Like what made people stop using battle traps and only want chainable traps, or what made people switch to non-destruction-based removal, or what made people start using negates like the Solemn line? Something where the playstyle or deckbuilding changed with some identifiable pattern and that pattern is bigger than just a new card archetype became the best but the pattern deals with similar types of effects or decisions players make that could apply across multiple archetypes.

Penguin soldier, and brionic. Was a fantastic counter to say stardust dragon who was amazing at the time.
Cards I'm expecting to see at least SOME of: ~ Fire Lake (Mass removal that synergises phenominally with an archetype that Swarms and benefits from being sent to the GY) ~ Bottomless (Banishing any summon) ~ Drowning Mirror Force (send the opponent's WHOLE front row into the deck) ~ Sales Pitch (add ANY CARD from the deck to the hand is still a nutty effect, especially in slower decks that like to set a lot and can benefit most from the likes of Card of Demise) ~ Torrential Tribute (Dark Hole in the opponent's turn) ~ Call of the Haunted (generic revival that can be looped due to its sticking around) ~ Void Feast ("special summon 3 monsters from the deck" is fucking nutty, even if archetype restricted) ~ Artifact Sanctum (free SS from the deck, penalises the opponent for trying to pre-emptively stop it, no negation of any kind) ~ Blaze Accelerator Reload (draw power AND GY setup, that single-handedly took Volcanics from a bad deck no one gave a shit about to topping a regional)

Here i was thinking dimensional prison could make the list... Compulsive evac is better in most instances, but in the same way that few cards are safe from being returned to the hand, the list of cards and decks that can benefit from banished cards is a bit low, and banishing also gets around most protection as well as graveyard effects. The biggest difference is that prison requires you to wait until the problem card attacks, which works in the slower duel links format, yet the infamous speed of the TCG undermines it to some extent.

I know you left out cards that negate effects, but honestly Skill Drain/Tyrant's Tirade is the card that straight up makes most "META" decks useless if you can simply protect it, which brings me to two cards that can do that that should have made the list... First up is Imperial Customs, which basically protects your continuous traps from anything other than row-wipes. Second one is a VERY old card that 99% of people don't even remember, it's ancient really from all the way back in 1999 that for trap-heavy decks can be the ultimate protection, Fake Trap! It can save your traps from pretty much everything other than straight up banishments, which is incredible since it can be used to protect even the entire backrow if it's only trap cards! Basically you can have Skill Drain/Tyrant's Tirade, then Imperial Customs to protect it and then Fake Trap just in case and you got a pretty nice lockdown. Hell, you can even put Tyrant's Temper too so Skill Drain/Tyrant's Tirade only affects your opponent and most decks can't do shit against that unless they have like 2-3 trap-removing spell cards! You can even put a Waking the Dragon as insurance although not necessary. I know it sounds hard to get all 4-5 cards at the same time, but with any sort of draw engine, it's actually pretty easy for 40-card decks! I use those with King Tiger Wanghu and Slifer for even more of a lockdown, then use By Order of the Emperor as my draw engine since I get to draw a card every time I summon something and negate KTW effect, which is like 2-3 times a turn (I like running low attack mons then using them for XYZ/link stuff).

Nah, I wouldn't add Pendulums.
I've said this before in a few other videos, but I would really like to see a video on cards that support Normal cards. I get the feeling that Effect monsters are getting far more numerous and prevalent in the game, and I know there are some older cards that specify Normal cards (or Non-Effect) monsters in their text. So, I think it's reasonable to ask if you could put together a list of cards that support Normal, and/or Non-Effect, monsters. Granted, I don't think there are many cards of that type, to begin with, even with new cards coming out every few months, but it still feels like there's a chance to royal screw over just about any deck with a Rogue deck specifically designed to counter card effects (especially those of monsters), so everyone keeps one to 3 Normal monsters in their deck for specific plays or because they are part of an archetype build. Now, playing a deck that's chock-full of Normal and Non-Effect monsters, aside from the odd Effect monster that specifically states it's there for Normal/Non-Effect support (I remember seeing at least one in the early 2000s), would certainly be a Rogue strategy and probably wouldn't get you very far in the competitive scene, but it could definitely be the sort of play you could expect from a casual game if you and the other players are working with a few unique house rules.

Insanity that sanctum didn't make it on the list, nor there can be only one
Heavy storm duster really should be at least a side deck staple. Especially if you go against a floodgate control deck and they get out skill drain and imperial order, a lot of decks literally can’t get an out if they rely on spells and monster effects.
