I got 7 in speaking section of IELTS 2018 🙂 Be original & confident is my personal advice, don’t ever try to copy british accent, not required in this exam. Accent is not marked but be clear (easy to understand) & audible.

I am living in Canada for the last 6 years and pretty good in speaking, however I got nervous on the test day and eventually drop my score so low that something I couldn’t believe.
@Oxfordonlineenglish1

It's pretty common to underperform slightly on test day. With IELTS, it's very hard to go above your 'natural' score, meaning what you could get based on your English level. However, mistakes (especially with exam technique) can easily hurt your score, meaning you don't get the score which reflects your natural English level. From experience, some people need to take the exam 2-3 times to get the score they deserve.

@@Oxfordonlineenglish1 yep! I’ve analyzed my faults from the first attempt. I’m working on it and hopefully I could prove my “natural” proficiency on the next attempt. Thank you for the reply.❤❤

I've a question about part 3.Actually,in my speaking exam I was much frustrated and in a question I replied ,Sorry!I have no idea about that.Does it make any impact on my score?
@Oxfordonlineenglish1
2 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Yes, that will impact your score unfortunately. Here is a link to the band descriptors to give you a better idea: www.ielts.org/-/media/pdfs/speaking-band-descriptors.ashx?la=en.

@@Oxfordonlineenglish1 i got my result and I scored 6 bands in speaking.I think I could score better if my part 3 was gone as effective as part 1 or 2.....
So, if I had to summarize what the examiners want (according to the band descriptors) is: -a variety of complex sentences -a variety of verb tenses (especially the complex ones?) -a variety of passive forms -a variety of modals -a range of comparative forms -a range of linking words Basically, it's all about "variety "(range) of all the above structures (without being obsessed with "complex" or "simple" grammar).Am I wrong?
@Oxfordonlineenglish1
2 жыл бұрын
From talking to examiners, different examiners will look for slightly different things. I think if you include the points in your list, you would certainly do well. 'Complex' in the IELTS score scheme only refers to multi-clause sentences, which you can build in an easy way using linking devices like 'but', 'because', 'for example', etc.
But how to start with part 2 when we don't have idea to speak on particular topic?

please help, Which is correct: 7 hour or 7 hours? Why?
@Oxfordonlineenglish1

Hi there. It depends on the context. For example: 'It's a 7-hour drive,' uses the adjective form, or, 'We drove for 7 hours,' uses the noun form. Hope this helps you!

But if ask about me I have to give personal example in part 3
@Oxfordonlineenglish1
2 жыл бұрын
The topics in part three are general, not personal. Part three is not scripted, so I suppose it's possible that the examiner might ask a personal question, but as I understand it they shouldn't do this. Maybe a less experienced examiner would, but I can't say for sure if it happens and how common it is. Anyway, yes, if the examiner asks you a personal question, answer in the 1st person.
