    Mykonos has a special place in my heart. I met my Australian husband when we were booked on the same tour of the Greek islands and Turkey. I didn't know he liked me in that way but he would do little tings like buy me baklava and sit beside me at dinner - I just thought he was outgoing and being friendly. One of the days I thought this is when we found ourselves wandering the streets of Mykonos; he helped me pick out a pair of earrings, we ate gyros, and walked near the windmills just having a great time. It's only when I flew back to the states that he got up the nerve to say how he really felt!

    I was speaking to a couple of Greek guys about toilets recently (as you do) and they said the toilet paper in the bin habit never really had anything to do with the pipes but because most of the sewage especially on the islands went into septic tanks and the tanks couldn't cope with paper and they were hard to empty. However, they said on mainland Greece loads of Greeks actually do sometimes put paper down the toilet and one of them said even he does it at his grandparents' house on one of the islands. The main reason they gave was that the problems had been deliberately exaggerated by businesses and governments who couldn't be bothered with maintenance, less use of septic tanks but mostly because modern toilet paper is designed to dissolve really quickly and even septic tanks will dissolve it. The days of toilet paper getting into a big wet clump in pipes is not really a thing nowadays unless you squeeze your toilet paper in your fist after you've used it (!) but the signs and the habits still persist. I don't know, I've never been to Greece. I'm just passing on what some Greeks told me.

    Thank you for taking time to do this amazing video. It is the perfect length, very informative, and an enjoyable video. You're so fun & honest. We’re planning to visit Mykonos & Santorini in early October for our honeymoon this is the perfect coverage for Mykonos. We saw your Santorini video as well. We have a few questions for you since you had experience on both islands. In Mykonos:- I’m wondering, is your hotel located in an easier public transport access area? I know you mentioned the shuttle is free, but on their website, it says additional cost. Should we worry about that? Do they include breakfast or we pay separately? Do you suggest a bus rather than a car rental? Also, when I looked at 180º Sunset Bar, it has so many seats raw choices, and hard to pick which you suggested. Which one did you choose? Santorini:- there are a lot of videos but they’re on higher-end and didn’t give you much detail like this video. Where do you recommend us to stay for less nosy, great ocean view, decent pool, airport/ferry shuttle, and easy for public transport? Thank you for your time. I know it takes time to answer all of our comments.

  • @SuitcaseMonkey

    @SuitcaseMonkey

    There’s a public bus at the end of the road but it is the only bus route there. So I’d suggest staying in Mykonos town outskirts as more public transport options there if that concerns you. Email the hotel if you have questions for them. Yes the 180 bar updated their website since I booked so it isn’t as clear as it used to be. I put on the screen in this video which seats we got. As for Santorini everything I know is in the Santorini tips video so I can’t add any more info besides what’s in there. Glad you found the video useful

And, recently, the Blue house is now opened to the public and it's becoming an exciting visit for many people. The blue house was never open to the public before until this May where the New president of South Korea decided to move his Presidential office.

    Hey, I need a help please. Staying in Mykonos for the second time, though this time very short visit. We're landing in the early afternoon, so I want to plan my first day after checking into the hotel (Mykonos Town). As it will be a hectic travel day it would be nice to get fast to the beach, to refresh ourselves in the sea, chill, and stay there for the sunset. Agios Ioannis seems like a perfect restful + sunset place, but I question whether we should maybe do this or some other beach quickly and then got to the 180 sunset bar instead? From your video it looks very nice. I just don't want a fuss and rush as we won't have that much time in the afternoon / before sunset to take a bus to the beach and back + walk to the town's sunset. On the other hand, I remember from my last stay in Mykonos, that the sunset in the city is epic, probably the best I've ever seen anywhere, including Santorini. But maybe the sunset at the Ioannis beach overlooking Delos could be special too? What do you suggest? Do you think we will regret not seeing the sunset from Mykonos town during this year's stay? Or is the sunset at Ioannis Beach similar? We already planned (for the other night we have there) sunset at Scorpios, which is more for the event there I guess, but if anyone has an experience with that too (and how the sunset compares to the Mykonos city or Agios Ioannis views) I'd really appreciate your help 🙏

    Hi Guys, another great video including a lot of useful information. Not trying to be a grumpy old sod, and I don’t know if it’s me but I can’t believe the prices you mentioned. I’m assuming this is just because it is Mykonos and not Greece in general as it certainly seems to be very expensive.

  • @SuitcaseMonkey

    @SuitcaseMonkey

    I’ve only been to this and Santorini Greece wise so not sure how they compare but it makes sense those two places especially would be higher than average. Like I mentioned in the video, there will always be cheaper options available, depending on where you go and food for us on a holiday is one of our favourite things so also we are happy to put our money towards that part. So maybe it was also the places we visited? Happy to hear other people weigh in…

    No is Mykonos and Santorini. Mainland is way cheaper and has more things to offer. But everyone choose the islands and I can understand why. Nevertheless in touristy spots even in mainland prices are higher than a remote village in the mountains. Generally speaking islands like Mykonos, Santorini,Paros,Skiathos and Athens Riviera are the most expensive places for summer vacations. Greece used to be a cheap place for living or as a holiday destination. Not anymore.

    For the 180 bar as walk in you said €10-15 minimum spend per person? That's very low as compared to €70 on the website. Do you know if you can actually get a table as walk in?

  • @SuitcaseMonkey

    That’s for walk ins only and would be standing. I doubt you wouldn’t get a table for that. It’s roped off for different areas.

    A question about the toilet paper as I wasn't aware they did it this way. Is toilet people available in toilets? Or best to take some with you? Are you charged for use? Other countries that do it that way charge you for the toilet paper & use of the toilet before you go in and only give you 1 sheet 🤔

    Just so you know, they DO have a POS at the Delos Tours booth, but it looses connection or it's just doesn't work for some reason. I've worked there for a season and they advise you to pay with cash in order to avoid delays on the booth's line and to keep up with the schedules of the ships for Delos.

    I am going in July. Staying in Kanalia which is a bit west of were you stayed. Do you recommend taking the bus into Mykonos town or renting a four wheeler or vespa? I plan to spend the entire day in Mykonos town exploring and ending the night at 180 sky bar.

    Calling ahead for reservations is no good for us coming from Canada where our cell phone charge will be $17 per day roaming charge. We don’t use our cell phone outside of the USA and Canada. But thx for letting us know, good job we are on a cruise and so not need meals on shore. Re. the toilets, how awful, just like Mexico. I kept forgetting there to not put paper down the loo. Plus the loos were stinky because the paper was in bins. good to know though. We will only be there a day in May on our cruise. The prices sound really high for food. Makes cruising a good choice. I though Greece was supposed to be cheap.

    There are only 30 taxis on the island because that is what's imposed by local laws. They don't want to fill the island with taxis so as to protect the island vibe /feeling. This has been an issue for decades... they want people to use the buses (which are more than fine). Believe me there were tons of business people who would have poured more taxis on the island if that was allowed... years ago now. So don't waist your time trying to start a taxi business there :)

There is no activity for a child and Mykonos town is super busy and a chaos. If you have a child go in another place but not Mykonos. Also be ready to spend a lot of money!!
