John Howard I also remember another one similar to this, I think it was San Jose, it hit the netting and came out front and someone put it in and it counted because of the same reason, nobody noticed it hit the netting and it’s not reviewable, at least at the time it wasn’t, it might be now, I’m not sure?

dude i was in the 300 level at that game and it was the craziest thing......out of all the games to go to and we had no idea what had happened and it was an insane way to end an overtime!

That last one was and is still an egregious non-call.

Reasons i think any play that directly results in a goal or game ending injury should be reviewable. (Well, actually, the reason is more just the madness that was last years playoffs... a 5 minute major for a freak accident and no review for a hand-pass goal...)

@@reaganharder1480 ... ummm, that situation is reviewable now - after the Bruins were gifted a goal in the playoffs last year. Out-of-Play reviews, and 5-Minute-Major review came about this year directly because of bad calls in last years playoffs.

@@FHL-Devils oh, well, good. Except that still doesn't deal with the silly hand-pass san-jose got away with. Honestly, the review rules are getting more and more complicated and convoluted. So I still say, let's simplify it to any play that results in an injury or a goal. I'm pretty sure that covers more or less everything that can currently be reviewed plus a little extra, and with less technicalities to remember. Heck, if you worded it right, that could even rule out the silly offside challenges where a goal is called back because of a bad entry into the zone two minutes prior which had no more effect on the goal than the green men in vancouver.

@@Yupthereitism - "Replay". You're right. But puck-out-of-play wasn't reviewable... until this season after a similar thing happened in the playoffs last year, and the uproar that caused (and rightfully so).

@Dylan its a round puck with edges. Of course it can take a weird bounce. Toskala did what you are taught not to do with a bouncing puck. You come out and trap it with your body. Not wait for the puck to get to you and catch it with your glove. He got the fundamentals wrong. If the puck was sliding smoothly then took that bounce, then you have a case. It bounced the entire way and Toskala was casual because his team was on the power play. Toskalas mistake.

Bobby Ryan scoring with Mikko Koivu's stick should've been on this list.

You could probably do a whole list with just Toronto letting in weird goals. I was expecting the one that Toskola let in against the Islanders that was from a 200ft shot lol

I recall several years ago a puck went into Dominik Hašek's net... he had his left skate pinned to the post but the puck went in. It was shown on replay that there was a hole/tear in the netting at the post... The puck squeeked it's way through the hole... The strange thing is that nobody challenged the goal... you think Hašek would have shown the officials the hole in the net... he had to have seen it....... 🤷‍♂️

I thought the title was a bit click-baity. Clicked anyway. Was not disappointed - thanks for a great compilation!

Joseph Najarian as I said in another comment, I’ve seen Brodeur give up a bunch of weird and/or soft goals, but given his output, I have zero complaints!

Technically that wasn’t a goal since you can’t score directly off of an official, unless we’re thinking of two different things

Really want a Steve’s Dang It in relation to Bergevin throwing the puck in the net. That was in the playoffs. Blues collapsed after winning the President’s Trophy and lost in the first round.

that 1999-00 Blues team could not catch a break in that series vs the sharks.

i was at a game just a couple of years ago where Cam Ward went back in the trapezoid to play the puck, then lost sight of the puck, turns out it was caught in his skate. He then circled back into the crease not knowing that he had the puck stuck in his skate, and put it into his own net... the refs reviewed the play and determined that it was a good goal for Arizona. Honestly shouldn’t have counted considering the refs lost sight of the puck before it crossed the line but it did count and how it didn’t make this video baffles me 😂

I remember watching that wings vs kings game live and I still don't understand how that counts as a goal. I thought as soon as the puck hit the protective netting that the play was dead. They even video reviewed the goal and still confirmed it.

It should have been blown dead, but since none of the officials or linesmen saw it hit the netting, it wasn't. The problem came because checking to see if a puck was out of play was not a review-able play, the refs couldn't change the non-call.

These are definitely strange.

Regarding number 8, I feel 78.5 ii - Goals disallowed when scored with a distinct kicking motion makes no distinction between attached goal and kicked into own goal. As such i feel that 8 should have been overturned on review as that may be one of the most obvious kicking motions I have ever seen.

In the German League, Brett Olson once scored a "baseball goal"... From the other side of the ice... And it wasn't an empty net..
