Having made 96 Patches for the Arturia Polybrute, I decided to do a Video highlighting the Top Ten Patches I've made. I also give my thoughts on the Synth, things I like and others I don't.
It's not a Review as I don't go into the Oscillators and Filters and so on, as there's already quite a few, however I though it would be good to do a Video, so you can hear what a Professional Sound Designer thinks of the Arturia Polybrute.

    How refreshing to see someone who really knows what he's doing and has honed his skills as a sound designer as thoroughly as you have, Jamie. You're clearly one of the very best sound designers there has been. Your much-missed Synth Show has brought your communication to a high standard too, relaxed, confident and detailed about your subject. This video is superb. The Polybrute is wonderful in your hands. Your sounds make me want to own this synth. Thank you for your good work.

    Thanks Paul, that's very kind of you. While i did end the "Synth Show" which ended up being more of a "News/Editorial" Show, like a lot of them out there, I am going to be back soon with a new Show, but dedicated to Sound Design.

    Your patches actually made me interested in this synth, great job sir! I was kinda upset with only 6voices polyphony when they anounced it, but recently I saw few pictures of it disassembled and I understand it now... It is FULL of electronics and voice cards are quite large and full of components. There really is pretty much no room left for any more analog voices.

    Your 3 voice final layered patch creates a soundtrack of sound. That's beautiful. Plenty of voices there! Reminds me of the beauty of the Sequential Pro 3, my best sounding synth, in paraphonic mode. But the PolyBrut is 3 voices giving you the real fullness of all of those osc.

    I own the OB-6 and consider ordering the Polybrute. In your opinion, how much of a territory do they both cover - where do they overlap and where do they really drift apart?

  • @maydaygoingdown5602

    @maydaygoingdown5602

    Ай бұрын

    Tonally the polybrute doesn't come close to OB6. Arturias filters just don't compete with the OB-6. No overlap regarding that. Polybrute has a lot more on board features and better FX and a lot better modulation options. So again no overlap there. For sound, OB-6 hands down everyday of the week. For features Arturia.

    @@GEOSynths Correct me if I'm wrong, but from your soundsets, much more I enjoy the Deepmind 12, than Polybrute... it feels more in ur face and close to old analogs in depth of the core sound...as the PB seems a tad forced..

    You make a lot of patches, on many synths. Do you recommend this for strings? I like the darkness it has, only concern is the voice stealing, and if there is a way to make it not noticeable, I don’t notice any in your video, but I do in others.

  • @GEOSynths

    @GEOSynths

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, you can make Strings on it for sure. As for Note stealing, I don't notice it much as I generally play 5 notes, leaving one free, plus the way I make patches is to use FX for the Release stage and have short release times on the Amp to try and avoid stealing, but really it's down to your playing style, not an issue really.

    Interested in Polybrute, however Arturia apparently have omitted either VCO1 or VCO2 switching into a low frequency mode, such as available in Anno Domini 1978 on Sequential Prophet-5. So many situations where it is extremely useful to have one audio VCO in low freq mode to provide what was called Polyphonic modulation. This necessary, simple feature would be very simple to implement in Polybrute software, just by instructing DAC to offset by a negative voltage, assuming DAC swings negative. Many several areas of sound are absent from the Polybrute without this simple feature. I hope this simple suggestion will find it's way to engineers.

  • @RayyMusik

    No need to do this since the PB, unlike the P5, has three dedicated LFOs which can be set to poly mode.

    @@RayyMusik While grateful for the existence of poly mode LFOs, Software LFOs cannot achieve what I'm after. The truth of the Polybrute is the Osc sound far better than the filter implementation, perhaps AC coupling is a reason for why Arturia have ignored my simple suggestion.

    Do you know which synth has the best sounds and presets not greatly in need of a synthesizer but would like to own one....and just 6 notes on the poly brute is pretty wack imo... but guess it can make you focus more on finding the right notes for melodies or some shit ! anyway I make beats mainly to fit vocals that’s why I’m asking.....so maybe I rephrase my question, what synthesizer has the best sounds and presets for vocals ?

However, if I COULD afford a nice synth I wouldn't waste my time on a Korg Prologue..... I would get a Hakken Continuum. I'm hoping to augment my income as a synth minstrel......
