@@kj7792 my buddies weren't threatened by force to leave the gates. they were told not to approach the gates but were able to stay in the area for a little while as long as they followed the rules. you can even see people standing in the area in some of the news footage. the people who were forced to leave tried to be funny and tested the securities leniency

What about Balloonfest '86 in Cleveland? That was a fundraiser for the local United Way that tried to set a world record for the most balloons released, about one and a half million. Things went horribly wrong not too long after the balloons were released.

Rhode Island Comic Con 2014 was a disaster. I was there. Despite hitting capacity in the Convention center, they were still selling tickets and those that left for lunch ended up missing panels and photo ops. The convention managers ended up deleting Facebook comments and responded poorly to criticism. They’ve improved GREATLY since then.

Still got nothing on the Woodstock 99 riot. Physically took their water at the gate and then charged $4 a bottle to a bunch of angry youth on drugs in 90 degree temps. Add to that the total lack of infrastructure and angry rock music resulted in three deaths, thousands of injuries, several counts of rape, the total destruction of the venue and several fires.

What's worse is that the local resturaunt, workers and shop owners never get paid for helping out at the event. The people who worked under them never got paid and they were pretty much ostracized from their community. It was very heartbreaking and the organizers did them very dirty.

One of the events I’m surprised wasn’t mentioned was Pokémon Go Fest 2017. People had to pay money to book a hotel to Chicago for an event that nobody had gotten information about what it is. When they got there, people couldn’t even play the game because the towers made it hard for anyone to play and the scripted events didn’t help either. People got so mad they were forced refunds.

The con organizers did admit publicly in their apology that the disaster should have been prevented from years back had they always enforced rules. They didn't because they were aware that their leniency attracted con goers to return.

Rainfurrest was a furry con that was notorious for being very lenient with their rules and each year attendees pushed the boundaries of what they would get away. This fact became popular with fetishists and substance abuse users, whom took advantage that the con was often organized within a hotel to organize drug parties and orgies. The year Rainfurrest practically died, diaper wearing furries and 18+ roleplayers took to taking adult content out of designated rooms and paraded around the con and hotel sections like that. There were complains of diaper wearers walking around with soiled diapers and throwing out their adult diapers around the parking lot grounds and on top of cars for hotel staff and clients to find. Some even flush them down hotel toilets and hotel staff had to call the plumbers like 3 different times because people kept doing that. Firemen also were called after smoke alarms inside rooms went off because recreational users were creating hot boxes. There was extensive damage to hotel rooms and halls. Oh and people were also walking around visibly drunk. The con ended abruptly and the hotel banned the organizers for life.

I'm surprised Rainfurrest 2015 didn't get an honorable mention. Furry convention gone wrong. Someone stuffed towels into a hottub causing expensive damages, a water issue in a room leaking into the room beneath caused more property damage, and used diapers littered everywhere from stairwells to hoods of cars.

TomorrowWorld 2015 was my first festival ever. Definitely a wild ride. The land owners had to bring out several tractors at 3am Monday morning to pull cars out of the mud. I waited almost 3 hours to get out of the parking lot that morning and there were hundreds of people waiting after that.

My understanding of gender reveal was always that it is something uneventful. "Emily is going to have a boy!" "Interesting. I'll congratulate her whenever I talk to her next." At a certain point, you may as well just throw a party without any kind of flimsy premise. I know these people who have an annual pig roast party. Not connected to a holiday, a birthday, or anniversary. I think they just like to have a bunch of people over for a backyard bash when the weather is typically good. Personally, I like Christmas in July. It's Christmas, but with warmer weather and without the pageantry. You show up, have a gift exchange, maybe down a few drinks, and generally just have a no-frills Christmas party. I try to celebrate July 25th every year.

Its very cool, I did to my girl, we finally chose her name and announced, it was very fun and everybody enjoyed. I mean pragmatically every party it's useless, birthday? Celebrate that you lived another year? Pragmatically thinking is useless, but it's fun.

The El Dorado fire happened in my back yard. My husband was apart of fire suppression.

I'm somewhat surprised the Jagermeister pool party in Mexico wasn't included. From what I've heard, the organizers poured liquid nitrogen into a pool thinking it would create a cool smoky effect, but instead it created a suffocating cloud when the nitrogen essentially forced away all the oxygen.

What's wrong with using a cake or balloons for a gender reveal.

Interesting list, but I missed one event in the list. An event in which 21 people lost their lives and at least 652 others were injured, some seriously. I'm talking about the Loveparade 2010 in Germany, which never really took place again after the accident.

Sad thing about the Fyre festival was there were plenty of people who paid bargain prices for what they thought was going to be the chance of a lifetime vacation. I really feel bad for those people.

fyre festival tickets weren't really a fortune, they were $1200 each for an all-expenses-paid-for week in the bahamas, a really good deal, or at least it wouldve been if it wasnt a disaster

Pretty sure in China there was a New YEars festival where some company released a promotion of vouchers in Shanghai ... the resulting stampede caused some deaths and cancelled the riverside party for years to come

I was just about to say that the result of tanacon seems to have been somewhat similar I don't think you can compare them to fyre Festival although I would imagine fyre Festival was way worse

I would add to this list Diego Maradona's funeral. It was held in the Casa Rosada (presidential building) on november of 2020, in the middle of the COVID pandemic, and thousands of soccer fans attended. It became a riot and several people entered in the building and even there was some stolen objects.

One of these had a promoter who was on Dr. Phil's TV show talking about the death threats he got after his involvement.

I remember the Storm Area 51 event back in 2019. When I found out it was just a gathering, I was like… “Wow.” I was searching for livestreams of that event that day, complete WASTE of my time. I also remember the wildfires in Australia, it happened by gender reveals with fireworks? What in the world!?!

Imagine when that child grows up to understand that their parents set off a huge ass fire that led to the death of an innocent firefighter and numerous homes, just because they wanted to celebrate the gender of their unborn child 💀

I don't care much for those "celebrities" and their failed attempt to "be bigger". What grinds my gears, should it be true, is those responsible for the death of the jaguar are forced to apologize.

Yeah, I'd think contrition should be automatic but then again common sense was definitely not automatic here. I was a letter carrier for 12 years before I traded my pith helmet and satchel for wrenches at the distribution center. I got attacked dozens of times, bit several, and while I was wary of the dog at the end of the day it was the owners that didn't ensure their animals were secure putting me in danger. This was in the city with a leash law on foot not curbside mailboxes. Some people shouldn't be entrusted to have a pet rock.
