I was in denial until Bart went to Juvie. I think I stuck around for a couple of more episode, the last draw was one episode where there's a flashback and Homer knew Lenny and Karl back when they were kids. I was like: THAT WAS IT!!

For me it definitely was the lady Gaga episode. I had spent years tuning in and tuning out to episodes randomly but I've not watched a new episode since seeing that trash....that's not ENTIRELY true, I will still seek out the Halloween specials, but that's an entirely different can of worms. I wonder if watchmojo has a list of best Treehouse of Horrors episodes? Or top 10 worst? Watchmojo, Halloween is upon us, make it happen!

There have been moments, single episodes, that are good, but yeah, overall it's pretty bad.

Yeah the Principal Skinner episode wasn't so great, but it does have one of my favorite scenes of all time. Where Homer is driving everyone to Capitol City and asking why each person is in the car lol

@Penske Material Yeah, well I watch that episode, ‘cause Tress MacNeille actually did an Emmy worthy performance as the hated Agnes Skinner. Now I’ll admit, I’m obsessed with Tress’ voice, but she really is a phenomenal voice actress. I’m pissed that she didn’t get an Emmy for that. In my opinion, she was the only good thing about that stinker.

So you like what 99% of the world loves about the simpsons because 90's simpsons is considered the best seasons of TV ever by a huge number of people, almost every simgle human being loves 90's simpsons, season 11 of the simpsons in about 2000 has NOTHING to do with like season 14 which itself is still not as bad as season 17 and onwards, season 9 to 12 had still very funny episodes, and every one of them was still filled with well thought gags the voices and characters had not yet evolved to a caricature of themselves, those season were not a match to the best ever animated show seasons ever, that doesent mean they are terrible, they cant reach that standard like every other show ever Also there wasnt an unsympathetic "peter griffin" like jerkass homer who ruines everything with a super cringy phrase, super woke politics shoved into our throats...etc

Moe has attempted suicide many times before this episodes airing.

@Sunny The Hedgehog What we don’t like is it isn’t consistent with Marge’s character at all, and it is a disturbingly dark episode for the Simpsons. Don’t get it twisted

Miracle on Evergreen Terrace is just painful. The episode itself reaches Family Guy levels of mean spirited and It ends with the Simpsons house completely emptied out and the family fighting over a rag because that’s all they have left. That’s supposed to be a charming ending btw! And then there’s what happened to Apu. He was one of the shows nicest most likable characters until he had Octuplets. Now he mostly complains and that’s it.....

"He mostly complains and that’s it" that's seems like it could apply very well to you too. Also The Simpsons have ALWAYS had dark episodes with no happy endings. People who complain about a show being mean spirited, dark, or "too depressing" are better off watching peppa pig. Now that's a show for eldery christians who are easily offended and think that life is a sea of roses filled with happiness and rainbows and that so it should be every representation of itXD

What annoys me is that no-one is talking about the episode "On a clear day I can't see my sister" (S16 Ep11) it was a terrible portrayal of Bart & Lisa's relationship, and showed the worst definition of Sibling Rivalry also apparently Lisa has dementia since she can barely remember a single good thing Bart has done to her.

OMG Yes, it had two parts where they made them the worst two kids and most hateable on the planet, especially Lisa after when shes getting revenge like a mental 70 year lonely rich cat lady to her kids, even animated you cant stand a show about people who behave this way to THEIR FAMILY, it was even worse than Homer and Bart relationship in some episodes when they go too far, like when he stole his college fund trust (my dad did too though to what my late grampa put for me when I was born so IDK I might hate it more for that)

Although there are some proto-jerkass homer moments in that show, I thought the episode was pretty good. It’s right towards the end of that transition period when the Simpsons fell off a cliff.

My favourite Bart prank was replacing the opening hymn with "In the Garden of Eden, by I. Ron Butterfly", it's such a convoluted and ridiculous prank with a hilarious result.

Once John swartzwelder was gone, the body of the show was cold

They make season 15 so bad so that the previous season dont seem that bad, then make S20 so bad that S15 dont seem so bad, then make S25 so that S20 dont seem so bad, and so on

When I go on a Simpson binge, I stop at the end of season 8.

There are some exceptions where there are really good episodes after s8 but generally the decline had started. S8 is just a good place to stop.

@@bullymaguire2988 Not really, I had already stopped watching the Simpsons regularly (not out of spite, mind you, but I started watching other stuff), but then Fox hyped the episode for being the 300th and whatnot, and it was just really dumb and unfunny and it made me realize The Simpsons were nothing how I remembered and they were never gonna be again, and surely enough, 300 episodes later, the current writers have no idea what to do with them.

I feel when people talk about the post classics they only look to the bad side of things and even the people who used to enjoy them now despise them and jump on the bandwagon because it's a popular opinion. @@bullymaguire2988 Well, I don't like modern Simpsons because I find them unfunny, whereas in the earlier episodes they had such clever comedy and heartwarming moments, nowadays, all of that is gone and replaced by celebrities and Family Guy levels of slapstick, but that's just my opinion, to each their own in the end.

I rage-quit at the episode where Lisa keeps adopting one cat after another, after the last cat keeps dying. So many things wrong with that episode.

Anytime I watch a new season episode it just feels so sad the animation almost looks too good not warm and fuzzy feeling the old 90s episodes had they all just seen to have culture references that fall flat and don’t work

Totally agreed. I loved those drawings, even the animation itself. the ones used nowadays are way different, and also made homer's eyes look like boobs (the way the draw boobs btw)

I rage quit in 1999 when the Simpsons writers went over to make Futurama. Simpsons are crap since about Season 10 or so

Kids can handle seeing the exact same things on shows and movies as adults can. When i was a kid all the kids watched adult stuff all the time and there was way more violence, blood and gore, dark and sexual content back then than there is nowadays and stuff made for children back then was filled with violent, scary, dark and sexual stuff

i agree i can't stand that whiny lisa at all only during the golden run and this show has become to much about her more than the others the 30th season there was more focus on her than the other three even if it wasn't the main focus of the episode and all the good storylines and go to her and i grew up with the simpsons too it is a shame that it has gone down hill

Pathetic, I'd be richer if I had a dollar for everyone who hated Lisa Goes Gaga and Boys of Bummer (but I actually hate those myself)

I actually loved the episode where Homer goes into jockey land. The song was so absurdly funny!

All of these just show that the series should have ended after season 8. Even as a kid I felt the show was a lot better in seasons 2-8.

Oh yeh. I remember the simpsons. Nah but for real who's actually still watching this show.

I never liked the Simpsons

I grew up watching The Simpsons. Maude Flanders' death changed everything. Even as a kid I knew the show was never going to be the same after that episode.

I know the first 9 seasons by heart and have watched that show since it first came on in '89 when I was 8. That being said it needs to be taken out to the woods and put down.

My favorite episodes are all from the first two seasons. Lisa getting headgear due to needing braces and no dental plan, and Homer going down Springfield Gorge thanks to Bart's worship of Lance Murdoch, are the best.

Nothing? That's a lie and you know it! There are plenty of episodes after Season 11 that are worth watching, like New Kids on the Blecch, Trilogy of Error, I am Furious Yellow, Mr. Spritz Goes to Washington, Moe Baby Blues, A Star is Torn, Homerazzi, Dial N for Nerder, Sex, Pies and Idiot Scrapes, A Totally Fun Thing Bart Will Never Do Again, Brick Like Me, You Don't Have To Live Like a Referee, Springfield Splendor, and Krusty the Clown. Just because there are more bad episodes in the rest of the season surrounding them doesn't make those particular episodes not worth watching. And it really breaks my heart if you automatically hate an episode just because it's in a later season when some of these might be good to watch no matter what season they are in. Finding out later that they only killed Maude because they were too cheap to give a raise for travel didn't help either

These episodes make me hate the Simpsons today. They left them without their pride with those episodes

I haven't seen any of these, but they are all examples of why I stopped watching after Season 8.

Principal and the Pauper was the day the simpsons died. It's interesting because while i did enjoy the episode for the most part, it just oozed of desperation and was an insult to the audience. Season 9 was the first season to have bad episodes but there are some classics in that season too. I don't know why people have so much difficulty figuring out which season the simpsons started to decline at

Brian Briann totally agree with you. Season 9 is when the show really started to decline. Each season after that had less funny ones and more forgettable, rehashed, and bad episodes. By Season 12, the show started to be unwatchable.

Almost all of these LAME moments are from LATE seasons. Let's just agree: they should have stopped LOOOONG time ago. With each season they become even more and more confused in their own plots and chronology. The only old show they didn't ruin was Futurama, for what I'm grateful.

At least they ended futurama on strong note Simpsons should been same but now we have horrible modern Simpsons episodes which is so bland

Totally agree with the Top 10! But, do you remember when Bart almost cause Skinner have testicle cancer in "You Kent Always Say What You Want", while the principal was under anesthesia?

1st: 'The Simpsons' has been ON FOR +33 YEARS, folks, let that sink in. MATT GROENNING, the show's MAIN creator needs to grow at least the TINIEST testicle to either LET IT GET CANCELED OR, WORK closely with writers to do a 60 minute FINALE. GET Sherrer, O'Brien AND LOADS of other writers who have been with this NOW overgrown, MONSTROSITY of nearly-immortal-B.S. to lovingly give it a SEND OFF! 2rd: The REBOOT of when Marge & Homer were first courting each other towards marriage was REBOOTED away from the CANNON storyline of when they were first dating in the late 70s- to AN UNASKED FOR 90s version. 3rd: Some of the real life voice actors / actresses of characters have died. The woman who voiced Bart's 4th Grade teacher died for example. 4th: Episodes OUTside of the Halloween holiday episodes MAKE ZERO SENSE and I remember noticing how seriously wrong it was without trying. Fuck sakes... 5th: YEAH, Lisa Simpson's fucking EIGHT but gets addicted to SMOKING!? This kinda thing ONLY happens in 2nd / 3rd World Nations! It's fucking depressing, STUPID and glaringly IMPLAUSIBLE! WHY doesn't Lisa become a DOCTOR, PILOT OR POLICE OFFICER AT THE SAME FUCKING AGE INSTEAD, at least those would be HEAVILY respectable instead of writing in that she's turned into an eight year old smokestack!

So glad I stopped watching the Simpsons over 10 years ago. These new episodes are trash. Love the old school Simpsons though... Flaming Moes etc...

I have only seen number 1, because I rage quitted after "Behind The Laughter" when the Zombie Simpsons started.

The episode of Skinner impostor is bad but I think that Maude's death is the true shark jump... Why? Because Skinner impostor didn't have a big influence in the next episodes'stories (Matt Groening wrote that episode when he didn't have any idea and After that Skinner returned to the original character), instead of Maude death: with that episode (season 11 ep.14) the writers destroyed the Flanders family (the marriage between Ned and Edna is ridicolous) only because they wanted to show a twist plot (the story of Powell is true but not sufficient to have a similar decision) killing Ned's wife. Then weak stories and more guest stars did the rest!

#1 was definitely when the show jumped the shark for good. I havent seen most of these newer episodes and Im glad i havent, the show's been generally terrible after season 8 or so (9 if you're feeling generous). Which sadly means its been bad for most of it's life, which hurts to say as a such a big fan.

Absolutely not, you're not a "big fan" if you like what 99% of the world loves about the simpsons because it's the considered the best seasons of TV ever by a huge number of people, or use "terrible" to describe season 9 of the simpsons which has NOTHING to do with like season 14 which itself is still not as bad as season 17 and onwards, season 9 to 12 had still very funny episodes, and every one of them was still filled with well thought gags the voices and characters had not yet evolved to a caricature of themselves, those season were not a match to the best ever animated show seasons ever, that doesent mean they are terrible Also there wasnt an unsympathetic "peter griffin" like jerkass homer who ruines everything with a super cringy phrase, super woke politics shoved into our throats...etc

You have no idea who I am, or how much I love the show, how much I can recite from memory, how many friends I've bonded with because their taste in comedy matches the style of Conan and Swartzwelder, etc., the people who I laugh with over Simpsons gags that no one else laughs at but we do. I usually keep comments short and to the point, so why mention that S10 is still good, and hell there are still pretty solid eps in 14, too much in the weeds for my general comment. You took a lot of time to write what you wrote, pretty random to go after me as if i offended you or something, so I felt like I owed you this. Hit me up if you're ever in VT, we can share beers and some laughs.

Even the bad episodes from the '90's like the Tanzarian one are gold compared to any episode made after 2005.

The Simpsons simply doesn't exist anymore. It hasn't existed for 20 years.

Skinner being an imposter was bad, but I hung on til they killed Maude. Then I was done. 9-11 being the decline is good. Fortunately I was gone for the rest of those episodes.

Pedro Arciniega A lot of people actually hate it though because they consider it an insult to working class people who've. worked their whole lives to only to amass nothing but I personally dont think thats the case. I think the episode just serves as commentary on that sort of issue. But as usual people have the habit of misconstruing things.

Yeah I was done when they killed Maude... well before that but that was the final straw. Simpsons is garbage now.

@Baltzeg I didn’t know that. Like I said, I really wasn’t that into it at that point either. I watched the episode because they said somebody was gonna die. That just marks the moment I was officially done. Haven’t watched a full episode since.

I wasn’t alive in the 90’s, but I love 90’s Simpsons the most, especially seasons 2-6. 1, 7 and 8 are also good and there definitely are good episodes from modern simpsons too, but the Simpsons has been around for too long.

The timeline is totally messed up, it says homer and marge had no kids in the ninetys but Bart was born in 1979, Lisa was born in 1981, and Maggie was born in 1988

The 90s flashback should be #1, booooooo-urns.

My jump the shark moment was in mid-1998 when Phil Hartman died, effectively ending his memorable characters Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure. I continued to watch it more sporadically over the years and mostly quit when Maude Flanders was killed so thoughtlessly in early 2000. The last new episode I watched was when Patty suddenly comes out as a lesbian and has a wedding (early 2005). It just seemed to come out of nowhere and ruin the Patty/Selma dynamic. So much of what happened in this episode was out of character and hard to believe given established canon. First the town immediately starts same-sex marriages without resistance. Then Homer accepts Patty's choice and becomes a minister while Marge is the one with the problem (WTF?). Next the fact that the Patty can't tell that that her wife to be is actually a man and it is up to Marge to find out. Finally there was the announcement at the end of the episode that Homer's wedding business is over and Bart says "Why?" - Yes, that was my thought. The whole thing was a typical later years attempt to latch on to something topical but completely fail to create a worthwhile or funny episode.

How the fuck isn't the Kesha Tik Tok opening not #1 or even mentioned. It was that exact moment I stopped watching The Simpsons and NEVER looked back.

What about in The Frying Game where Homer and Marge are accused of murder but it turns out it was just an elaborate prank.

The reason why they killed off Maude is because Maggie Roswell (the voice of Maude) quit the show because she moved to Denver. But she returned in 2002. Maude was voiced by a different actress in Alone Again, Natura-Diddily. If you think about it, it's kinda stupid that they killed her off for that, and they could've used the same actress to voice Maude from 1999 to 2002 instead while Roswell was away.

"We'll eat your brain." always makes me laugh. That episode wasn't bad.

You know smoking is bad when HOMER is taking a gun to a cigarette.
