Sinister is by FAR #1 for me. That was honestly the only movie I’ve ever watched where I’m scared to watch again. It was super eerie and creepy. The gruesome murders on the VHS tapes is what gets me the most, especially one specific VHS scene, but I shouldn’t say it, it may spoil the scene lol. I would 100% recommend this movie for anyone who wants a good scare, make sure you watch it in complete darkness, of course!!

I definitely agree, but the thing that makes the movie scary for me is him. They way he’ll just be standing there. Like the scene where he was staring in the backyard.

Smile is recommended. Its incredible how great the tention has been holt. Its like the smile can just happen in any minute making it ultimately scary the whole time

Very good list! Would put The Witch (2015) in first of all time, but will watch for sure those in this list that I haven't!

New sub here- Admittedly, I haven't watched all. I think "It follows" really taps into teenage isolation and paranoia. The street scenes in the car are utterly John Carpenteresque. I love the retro TVs, old cars and the girls little shell E reader. Hereditary deserves the position but I think The Babadook is another that touches on real human frailties and the dark recesses of our psyche😊

Watched The Ring when i was like 12. Gave me nightmares.

I don't care what anyone says The Strangers is hands down one of the scariest horror movies of all time, at least my top 2 putting hereditary at my number 1

The Grudge, The Hills Have Eyes, Wolf Creek, Mama, The Witch, The Visit, The Ritual, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Dog Soldiers and Apostle can be another list. Equally scary or disturbing ...if not more.

I love the IT movie. One of my favourite movies ever. I loved chapter 2 as well. Am I the only one that finds IT to be a horror version of The Goonies? Lol.

I saw that in 2008 at 12/13 and was scared to be alone for like the next 2 weeks

I watched them all except get out cuz I dont like the main character and for the rest they all good and smile and it follow so similar like %90 same

The decent was excellent, the conjuring also very well made The badabook, was interesting not too bad. I have soft spot for evil dead, it pays homage to original black and white evil dead I love Then he had to release comedy version in colour. Good to see it’s back as proper horror IT, I wish they didn’t remake it, it wasn’t as scary as original which had character Insidious was ok, but they spoilt it by never ending it and watering it down with sequels The midget devil dancing with its old records had me roaring with laughter I loved the original Asian The Ring, sadly they couldn’t quite make it scary for me Hereditary, interesting I have to watch it Smile was crap, not even when the demon showed up revealing its face, some reason it made me laugh, just stupid It Follows, another crap movie, I have friends that said it scared them, so if you are easily scared, and you don’t mind teenage type bad acting movies, with promiscuous theme go for it Now Get Out, I meant to watch that, I think it looked brilliant If you like Decent lots of other horrors English style, like Dog Soldiers, 13 hrs, Howl etc They were funny but scary My old favourites like stir of echoes, sixth sense all supernatural, like conjuring, love it Now I have never seen any movies like the classics, Pope Exorcist came close The exorcist, The omen Gregory Peck, The Thing, To The Devil a Daughter, lots of old classics horrors too numerous to mention The Serpent & The Rainbow, wasn’t old but I love the voodoo movies Foreign faves (French)Let Right One In, Pan Labyrinth, oooh and Cassadaga (2011), wow you watch that Oct at night and you will not sleep a week 😂

The fact you pronounced ‘insidious’ wrong and didn’t list ‘ringu’ instead of ‘the ring’ makes me lose faith in your judgement.
