Okay it's kind of a long story but here it is: So for a while I liked playing hockey I just didn't really care for the NHL or watching hockey, but last year my dad to Toronto because my favorite team was visiting, the sharks. Even if I wasn't a huge hockey fan I still had a favorite player, Brent Burns. He took me to see them play against the leafs and in the warmups I had got a puck from Brent Burns and one from Logan Couture. I can't remember the exact score but I remember the sharks won and the score was something like 5 - 8. Ever since that night I have 3 pennants, 3 jerseys, a hockey poster, two hockey figures, a whole set of collectible hockey cups and a lot more. Thanks to Brent Burns and Logan Couture for throwing me those pucks, thanks to my dad for getting me into hockey, thanks to my mom for driving me all around town to get those collectible hockey cups and thanks to you for reading this long ass comment.

    1. Speed -It’s the fastest sport. 2. Flow of play -There aren’t elongated stretches without play. The snail’s pace in the flow of football and baseball make them unwatchable. 3. Skill -Handling the puck at high speed is incredibly difficult and highly entertaining.

Great point; at least in comparison to baseball and football, there's a lot less time in between the action! And it's not like teams can stack timeouts like they do in basketball. Thanks for watching!

Loved this video man! as someone who was a hockey fan first I tried to start watching other sports but noting came close to the experience of watching hockey, everything was so slow and just no where near the fun. I have tried so hard to like football because everyone and their cat seems to think it's the greatest thing on this earth. I kinda got into soccer a bit for the world cup but the flops and diving was a bit much (not that is isn't in hockey and other sports cuz it is, just not nearly as much). Good god baseball is just so slow and not exciting to watch in the slightest. Golf and Tennis are fun to play but not to watch. Basketball is hard to watch because of the annoying sound the shoes make on the court hahah so I just kept coming back to hockey had what i was looking for. I think some times people don't like it because its too fast almost they cant follow the play, I get that. But you hit the nail on the head with all these points man! If I started watching other sports first it might be different but I was lucky to find hockey first!

You bring up a great point. It may be harder to go from watching hockey to something more micro-managed like baseball or football. I grew up with those first, so I eventually took on basketball because it was more fluid. Then it got away from the more intense defensive matchups, so I started favoring stick-puck instead. I actually like watching tennis, but sometimes the really fussy players can stir up quite the racquet...

My first hockey game was in 2011, it was the first time I ever heard or seen any kind of hockey being played in Portland, and I loved it. From that day one, I became a fan and have always tried to follow the Winterhawks whenever I can. My favorite hockey memory was watching the Stanley Cup Finals in 2015, I was rooting for Chicago at the time (not anymore for obvious reasons) but at the time it was pretty special to see such an intense atmosphere for a sport, and to see your favorite team hoist the cup.

  • @ssmith87

You named every reason as to why I love the game. When I was 12 (1990) we were living in Arizona at the time and during summer vacation my sister, brother and I would visit our grandparents here in Pennsylvania (45 miles west of Pittsburgh). I was introduced to the sport that summer by a childhood friend. The moment I held a hockey stick and shot a puck, I was in love. He and I would shoot pucks by his garage for a few hours and the more he kept telling me about the sport I couldn’t wait to watch a game. Learning how to stickhandle and the different types of shots and techniques used for each shot was just so fun to learn. We eventually moved here to Pennsylvania that summer because my mom was in a at accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down. She taught herself how to build up her core strength and walk again it took almost a year. It was pretty incredible to witness that. Anyway, a coup,e of months later I got to watch my first game and fell in love once again. I loved the constant movement of the players and the puck, I remember observing how the players would move and turn around and skate backwards, the goalie’ movements and reactions, how the players would hit each other against the glass. There was so much going on and I was so mesmerized by it all. After a few games I noticed the jerseys and the first jersey I really fell in love with was the Buffalo Sabres, the colors and logo were so cool to me. Hartford whalers was the other one. Now I got spoiled right away because my Penguins won 2 Cups in my first 2 yrs of watching. I remember how much more intense and anxiousness I felt during the playoffs. Before discovering hockey I liked football, basketball and baseball, but I never got so emotionally attached and I started to wonder how in the hell do people like those sports more than hockey? Actually I still do..lol. 7 yrs after I got into hockey I went to my first live game and OMG is it so much better live. I realized that tv doesn’t do hockey any justice. For experienced fans we may not think that, but to me the tv just doesn’t capture the speed of the game, how fast/quick the player’s have to make decisions. You realize and appreciate it when you have glass seats or when you sit behind the goal and find yourself shocked that there are shutouts in hockey because I honestly do not understand how the goaltenders can see/track the puck a lot of the times with all of the bodies and sticks in front of them. Another reason I love the game so much is because I think if you’ve engaged in the sport, whether it’s rollerblading or on the ice and whether or not you play on teams it gives a whole different perspective on just how athletic and skilled those guys are. Even players who don’t make it to the NHL and how good they are, then to think of the best players in the NHL and how incredibly amazing they really are.

As a European (Croatia), in our blood from early age is only football(or as you saying soccer), basketball and other sports ... Hockey not so much. but we heard of him :D ... It always attracts me, but i didnt have chance to watch it anywhere besides our main city. Luckily i lived there and i watched some matches from our "local" club, but the league and club was "shit". We didnt had better :) ... And then later that year i believe was olympic games or world championship and on tv i watched Finland-Canada i believe, and it was so beautiful OMG, i fell in love with that sport. Unfortunately, football became so sensitive and sensibil sport nowadays, with 1 small contact when you foul make, player laying on the ground for 30 min, but ey he earning 1 million on the week, or month, nevertless they earning so much money and then delivering us they shitty performance or shows like that. In hockey they crushing into you and you get up and continue playing ... Amazing. And unfortunately i cant watch NHL so much because of timezone, but ... Hockey is good sport !

Great video. I live in Nebraska so we are not a Hockey market either. We have some college teams and some teams around us in Iowa. Was watching a football game a buddies house and the running back ran 85 yards for a touch down and the crowd went wild……That was until a holding penalty all the way back on the other side of the field brought the whole play back and it was meaningless. My buddy bust out laughing and simply shrugged his shoulders and said, “Well, this wouldn’t ever happen in Hockey”. My buddy is a Calgary Flames fan and I’m a Vegas Knights fan and our teams play often. We play multiple times a year so next year, we plan on going to watch both of our teams play. Watched some intros to Vegas games and it’s out of this world awesome and no other sport has that kind of an intro. Can’t wait. Hockey is definitely growing on me and it would’t surprise me if it becomes my favorite sport soon.

How I became a hockey fan: My dad is from NYC, and my sister thought she was an ny girl, so when the Rangers came to tampa my dad got tickets for the 2 of them. Those tickets were right by the TBL tunnel. My sister saw Victor Hedman and had a crush on him, and my family became TBL fans (my dad was a Broad street bullies fan but that was decades before this/2009) then when I was 2 I started going to lightning games because back then season tickets were CHEAP. Then I started to appreciate the game more as I started moving up levels in hockey.

Great point! Yeah with all the penalties and fouls in football and basketball, I just stopped watching those leagues at-large. Hockey was always my favorite sport to watch in person, but even on TV I have quite a good time. Cheers!

@@TwistedWristerHockey They definitely need to keep politics out of sports completely ever since they implemented that into today's sports I lost full hope of what's going to happen next so that why Hockey is the best choice for now until they sort that out. Yeah you can say some bad things about Hockey but that's every league it has it flaws. I'm not sure about MMA to be honest because they been acting childish as hell

I appreciate hockey alot. But you can't see the fricking puck go into the net most of the time.

Soccer is the best sport to watch. Tell me it ain't true when you're in a stadium with 50,000 other fans chanting and jumping and screaming and singing.

I think if we're just talking about atmosphere, then yeah it's tough to beat soccer - especially in Latin America and Europe (saw Inter in Milan many years ago). College football would be up there for teams in the south/midwest, and I hear Japanese baseball games are unlike anything in the States.

Great video man. Just recently became a hockey fan, my daughter and I have attended 4 Panthers games so far and it has already become our favorite event together. 🏒
