I feel like most of these reasons are frivolous and overpriced bookstores and bad parking are a common college problem. If you really want to frame whether or not BYU is a good school for each student, you have to dig deeper.

Live off campus. There are many locals in Provo willing to rent to you. You will have much more freedom in this situation. Living among the locals is a education in diversity.

It would be cool if BYU was friendlier to non-mormons. I think it would be cool to go to BYU but I’m Jewish and wouldn’t follow a Mormon honor code.

I checked out BYU for gratuate school in physics. I was very impressed. It is a great campus. I ended up going to the University of California, Santa Barbara, because there was no tuition then for California residents. But if the cost had been the same I would have gone to BYU.

That must be a pro about leaving arrangements and freshmen being able to live off campus. A lot of University require freshmen sometimes even sophomores to live in dorms/ on campus.

As a member born in the church, I love it and know it to be true. All my life my father was a big BYU fan, since he couldn't finish his degree because he already had a family, he wished one of his children will go and live the dream. I wanted to make him so proud. Everyone I know says BYU is "the Lords school" in other words, and many die to go there, or say only smarty pants attend. Well...I applied and to my surprise, got accepted! It made my whole family proud, especially my dad. But when I went for a tour during high school senior year, I didn't feel right. As if maybe...it's OK if church members DON'T go there. Doesn't make you less, doesn't make you a sinner, doesn't mean you will miss out on spiritual and religious opportunities either. As I'm preparing to become a missionary and serve the Lord for 18 months. I hope after, I will receive an answers as to where I should go study and begin my university experience and expand my education. In state or out? BYU or UofU? In the country or international? I may not have an answer now, but I know I will get one. BYU is an amazing school, but it doesn't mean it's for everyone. Thanks for the video!

I joined the church when I was 18. Started paying tithing from day one. Served a mission. When I came back, I applied to BYU. I was turned down for lack of financial means. Later, I applied again. Turned down again. A few years later, my dad was dying of cancer. He told me he wished he'd offered to sponsor me to go to BYU. Oh well, life sucks sometimes.
